assassination
There were fewer ghost soldiers in the side gate, so Wang Xiaoxia took advantage of the gaps in the ghost soldiers' movements to carefully climb over the wall and enter, but he was still caught red-handed by the patrolling ghost soldiers.
"Who goes there!" a ghost soldier shouted at Wang Xiaoxia, holding a long spear.
The silent night seemed to be suddenly shattered by that shout. Wang Xiaoxia was startled and turned around, only shaking her sleeves. A delicate fragrance spread through the air, and the ghostly soldiers guarding the palace seemed to be in a deep dream, laughing and oblivious to everything. Wang Xiaoxia quickly fled, searching towards the highest point of the palace, until the familiar scent grew ever closer.
A maid was crouching outside the door; the light inside was dim, suggesting the person was still awake.
Wang Xiaoxia waved his hand lightly at the maid, and the maid, just like Cui Heng had done that day, took off her clothes and began to indulge in self-indulgence, making soft moaning sounds.
"What's that sound?" someone inside asked upon hearing the noise outside.
"It's me," Wang Xiaoxia replied, opening the door and entering.
When the familiar voice came, Cang Ze was clearly startled. He slowly raised his head from the table and saw Wang Xiaoxia walking lightly towards him.
"Xiaoxia?" Cangze asked in surprise, even thinking for a moment that he was dreaming.
"Brother Wu Huan, do you miss me? I miss you so much!" Wang Xiaoxia said softly, walking gracefully to Cang Ze and gently stroking his face with one hand.
He did not dodge. A strange, light fragrance instantly intoxicated Cang Ze. His gaze became increasingly hazy, and his eyes as he looked at Wang Xiaoxia gradually softened as if they were drawn with silk.
"Xiaoxia, I've missed you so much. I've been thinking about you all these years," Cangze said with a dreamy look in his eyes. A blush crept onto his face, and his heart began to heat up because of some kind of impulse.
In Cang Ze's eyes, Wang Xiaoxia was still the same as when he first met her a hundred years ago. That day, she wore a peach-pink dress and her smile was more dazzling than the sunlight.
Wang Xiaoxia straddled Cang Ze's lap, her gentle hands softly pulling open Cang Ze's thin underwear. Cang Ze did not resist, letting her caress him gently. He was intoxicated, his heart beating faster and faster, his breathing heavy with desire.
The maid's agitated voice outside the door drew the surrounding ghost soldiers away, since it would be impolite to get too close to their master while he was doing such a thing.
Cang Ze was completely unprepared. Wang Xiaoxia smiled at him, but then reached for her waist, drew a short knife, and plunged it into the beating heart. She plunged the knife all the way in, and before Cang Ze could react, the knife was violently pulled out, and blood spurted out, staining Wang Xiaoxia's face red.
The intense pain brought him back to his senses. Cang Ze abruptly pushed Wang Xiaoxia off him, clutching his chest and struggling on the ground in agony.
A sharp pain shot through Wang Xiaoxia's chest, causing her to collapse to the ground in agony. She struggled to get up, but her breathing became heavy. She coughed lightly, and a mouthful of pus and blood gushed from her mouth.
"Hahaha," Wang Xiaoxia grinned, revealing his blood-stained teeth as he laughed wildly at Cang Ze.
Cang Ze knelt on the ground, enduring excruciating pain, blood gushing from his mouth and chest. He gritted his teeth and remained silent, instead looking at Wang Xiaoxia with a sorrowful expression. The pain had freed him from his desires, and he was now clearly thinking about everything that had happened.
"Xiaoxia, why?" Cangze asked painfully, his mouth full of blood staining his teeth red.
"I'm going to kill you! I'm going to make you die!" Wang Xiaoxia said viciously through gritted teeth, a patch of blood beginning to ooze from his chest, filling the room with a strong smell of blood.
“You will die!” Cang Ze said.
Cui Heng was the first to notice something was wrong. He smelled the odor in the side hall of the Ghost King's Palace and rushed to Cang Ze's room. He immediately noticed something was wrong when he saw the groaning maid at the door. When he opened the door, he saw Wang Xiaoxia kneeling on the ground, covered in blood.
"Xiaoxia? Wuhuan!" Cui Heng ran in, closed the door, and called out.
He didn't understand what was happening. Instinctively, he reached out to help Wang Xiaoxia up, but Wang Xiaoxia suddenly turned around and stabbed Cui Heng. She didn't intend to kill him. Cui Heng didn't dodge and was only cut on the arm. Blood gushed out immediately. He covered his arm and watched helplessly as Wang Xiaoxia ran away.
"Wu Huan, what happened?" Cui Heng rushed over to help Cang Ze up and asked hurriedly.
“The puppet gu is inside her, save me,” Cang Ze said weakly, grabbing Cui Heng’s arm.
Blood loss had made his body cold, and the sharp pain in his chest made his breathing weak. But as much pain he felt, so did she. He wasn't afraid of death; he just knew in his heart that only if he lived could Wang Xiaoxia live.
Cui Heng immediately realized that Wang Xiaoxia was the mortal who had been implanted with the puppet gu by Wu Huan a hundred years ago. He helped Wu Huan up, placed his hand on his wound, and used his magic to slowly heal the wound until he was out of danger. Then he helped him to bed and laid him down.
Wang Xiaoxia was ultimately a mortal without magical powers, so although Wu Huan was seriously injured, it was only a superficial wound; her soul was not harmed. If she had some magical power, the knife would have damaged her soul, making treatment much more difficult.
“Brother, do not mention today’s events to Muhe, or it will cause more trouble! Also, leave no one alive who saw me today,” Cangze said, his voice heavy with breaths.
“Okay,” Cui Heng replied.
Just as Cui Heng promised when he first met Cang Ze a hundred years ago, he said to Cang Ze, "From now on, I will be your knife."
Only then did Cangze's heart gradually relax, and memories from a hundred years ago began to flood back to him. It was as if he could see himself plunging the knife into Wang Xiaoxia's heart and watching her fall in front of him and slowly lose her life as soon as he closed his eyes.
Blood flowed everywhere, its strong stench soaking her wedding dress. He took off his brocade robe, revealing a plain white mourning garment underneath. The blood bypassed him, leaving no trace of it.
He never shed a tear, watching helplessly as that vibrant life slowly faded into death. He never again encountered a woman who loved him wholeheartedly. Sitting high above, he was accompanied only by endless cold and loneliness.
From that moment on, he understood that his fate with her was sealed, so he let her go. Wherever she went, as long as she lived, that was enough. As long as he lived, she would live.
But just now she called him Wu Huan. Did she remember everything? Or had she never forgotten? Or did that person say something to her? That person? Yes, that person! It must be him! If only she had been ruthless enough to kill him back then.
In the dimly lit cage, a few candlelight flickered. It was more like a hole than a room. The walls were covered with scratches, and mud mixed with blood stained the walls, giving them a sinister red hue. A man was chained to two thick iron chains. His hair was disheveled and draped over his shoulders. His clothes had been whipped to the point of being strips, and the blood that had stained and congealed on them made the soft clothes stiff and clinging to his body. He raised his head, revealing a pale, bloodless face, and smiled contemptuously at the newcomer.
"You're injured? You have a lot of enemies, don't you?" the Bad Guy said contemptuously, a cold smile on his face.
The day after Wang Xiaoxia disappeared, he went alone to assassinate Cang Ze, only to be imprisoned here and whipped every day. He was not afraid, as this minor punishment was much lighter than the suffering he had endured before.
Cang Ze found a chair and sat opposite him. He was still weak from blood loss, but he still had a stern face and a fierce look in his eyes.
"What did you say to her?" Cang Ze asked in a low voice.
"Her? Which 'her'? Is it someone surnamed Zhang or someone surnamed Li, a person or a ghost?" the Bad Guy said, his tone becoming increasingly arrogant as he looked at Cang Ze's appearance, a wicked smile appearing on his lips.
"What are you laughing at? If I die, she will die too," Cang Ze said in a light tone, his eyes cold.
"Yes, otherwise you would be dead, and I wouldn't be the one tied up here," the Bad Guy said softly, with great disdain.
"So what did you say to her?" Cang Ze asked again, completely unmoved by the words of the Bad Guys.
"Did she inflict this injury on you?" The man with the bad reputation stopped laughing and asked with a stern face.
If she was the one who did it, I wonder what she should do now? If it is true, as Cang Ze said, that he and she will live and die together, then if he is alive now, she will surely be able to live as well, the Bad Guy thought to himself.
"Hmm," Cang Ze responded, which was considered an admission.
The man tilted his head back slightly and gasped, causing the chains binding him to rattle.
"What did you do to her?" the Bad Guy finally asked, his face betraying his worry.
“They ran away,” Cang Ze said coldly.
"Hmph! Serves him right!" When the Bad Guy learned that Wang Xiaoxia had escaped, his tone became contemptuous again, and he felt relieved.
Only if Cangze dies will Xiaoxia die. If he doesn't die, Xiaoxia is still alive. As long as he's alive, that's fine.
“She was injured too, just like me,” Cang Ze added.
He leaned back in his chair, coldly observing the fluctuations in the villain's emotions. Killing him now would be easier than stepping on an ant, but he wanted to torture him slowly.
The bad guy frowned, then stretched out his brow.
"So what?" he said in a nonchalant tone.
"So, what exactly did you say to her? Did you incite her to come and kill me? How much did you tell her about what happened a hundred years ago?" Cang Ze asked, his patience wearing thin and his gaze turning fierce.
"Hmph! Want to know? I won't tell you!" the Bad Guy said with a laugh. He was happy as long as Cang Ze was unhappy.
"Don't think I can't kill you," Cang Ze said coldly as he slowly stood up and approached the Bad Guys.
He placed one hand on the shoulder of the Bad Guy and squeezed it hard, and the Bad Guy screamed and knelt on the ground in pain.
"Do you think I'm afraid of death?" the Bad Guy said through gritted teeth, still smiling but his face was covered in cold sweat from the pain.
"Heh, how ridiculous. Your father fell in love with Si Ye's mother, and you fell in love with Si Ye's daughter. You two are really alike!" Cang Ze sneered, laughing with a contemptuous tone.
"She saved my life, so I'm just returning the favor," the bad guy said, his head bowed, his eyes fixed on the blood-stained ground.
"You refuse to admit it? Then why did you give up immediately when you learned the secret of the Puppet Gu when you were trying to kill me? You should know that if you hadn't hesitated then, I would definitely be dead," Cang Ze said, looking at the Bad Guys with a knowing smile.
"You can't even bear to see her suffer the same injury as me!" Cang Ze said coldly again.
"Get out!" the Bad Guy hissed, without even looking up at Cang Ze.
"If you want her to live, I advise you to shut up and watch your mouth. You should know that there is only one Cang Ze in this world, and it can only be me." After Cang Ze finished speaking, he turned and left, leaving the Bad Guys to live alone in this dark room.
