After parting ways with the Bad Guys, Cui Heng went directly to find Cang Ze. Cang Ze had already changed into his wedding attire and was sitting upright in the room. The bright red dress made his cheeks appear rosy, giving him a healthy look. The sky was just beginning to brighten, but the view outside the window was still shrouded in mist.
Upon seeing Cui Heng enter, Cang Ze waved his hand, and all the servants in the room tactfully withdrew, leaving only the two of them.
“The men you sent have been killed by me,” Cui Heng said first.
His face was pale, and he looked extremely exhausted. The waters of the River of Oblivion were extremely damaging to his primordial spirit, and he had also struggled to pull a mortal up. If it weren't for his ancient demon beast body, he probably would have died in the River of Oblivion long ago.
Cang Ze smiled nonchalantly. He hadn't even expected the assassin to kill the Bad Guys successfully; he just wanted to give Cui Heng a warning.
"As expected of my elder brother, nothing can be hidden from you. But I just don't know why you insist on protecting that person," Cang Ze said frankly.
Now that the Ghost Realm is under his control, the Demon Race will soon be his prey, and he will get everything he wants in no time.
“Someone made a deal with me, asking for his life in exchange,” Cui Heng answered truthfully, standing expressionlessly in the shadows where the light did not reach, his eyes lowered.
"Brother, are you making deals with people now? What kind of deals are they?" Cang Ze couldn't help but look up and ask.
Cui Heng was proud and aloof and disliked being coerced, which made Cang Ze curious about the deal.
"My true identity," Cui Heng replied.
Cang Ze frowned slightly. Cui Heng was always careful in his actions, so how could his true identity be so easily discovered?
"Who could possibly possess such abilities?" he asked.
"The owner of Wangyue Pavilion," Cui Heng replied calmly.
"Is it her?" Cang Ze murmured, then smiled faintly.
Since that rogue came from the Forgot Moon Pavilion, he must have told the madam many things, so it's not surprising that she knows.
"What else does she want?" Cang Ze asked again.
He and Cui Heng shared both fortune and misfortune, and Cui Heng's secrets were naturally his secrets as well.
"You want me to use the Soul-Suppressing Cauldron to forge a magical artifact?" Cui Heng replied.
"What kind of magical artifact is it?" Cang Ze asked.
Cui Heng paused, then hesitated slightly.
"A sword that can kill the demon race," he replied, this being the first time he had deceived Wu Huan.
For some reason, he suddenly didn't want to tell Wu Huan about this, and even didn't want Wu Huan and Xiao Xia to have any further involvement.
Cang Ze nodded and believed it. After all, Wang Yue was a mortal turned ghost. To kill him, one would need a magical artifact that could harm ghosts.
"Brother, you agree?" Cang Ze asked.
“Hmm,” Cui Heng replied.
"Wouldn't it be simpler for my brother to just kill her?" Cang Ze said instead, revealing a look of disdain.
Cui Heng suddenly raised his eyes to look at Cang Ze, as if he were looking at a stranger. The former Wu Huan would never have taken human life so lightly, let alone someone who did not need to be killed.
“Now that Wu Huan holds a high position, he has become much more decisive in his killings,” he said, a cold smile on his face.
Cang Ze knew perfectly well that there was a barb in those words. He was clearly taken aback for a moment, and his expression immediately turned cold.
"The Soul-Suppressing Cauldron is in the Magic Artifact Storehouse. Go find it. Wang Yue is just a mortal. Even if he has a magic artifact, he can't do anything to me. Go!" he said.
"Okay," Cui Heng replied, turning to leave, but Cang Ze called him back.
"Brother, where am I?" Cang Ze asked finally, his face somber.
Cui Heng lowered his head, deceiving Wu Huan for the second time.
“He’s dead. His body is in the River of Oblivion,” he replied in a low voice, without even turning his head.
Cang Ze remained silent for a long time, ultimately saying nothing. With Xiao Xia dead, the last glimmer of light in his heart was extinguished.
Cui Heng stepped out the door, a cool breeze gently brushing against his face. The gloomy Ghost King Palace was now covered with red curtains. Soon, Mu He would move in here and become the queen. Mu He was the only daughter of the Demon King. Having Mu He was equivalent to ruling half of the demon realm. Wu Huan now had almost everything he wanted.
He had made all the promises he made to Wu Huan.
He slowly let out a sigh of relief and walked towards the magic artifact storehouse. If Xiaoxia could really come back to life, he wanted to take her away from this place and back to their little house with Lao Jiang, so they could live together as well as before.
Wang Yue returned earlier than Cui Heng. Her face was so pale that there was almost no color in it. She walked up to Wang Xiaoxia and sat down on the ground with great exhaustion, staring blankly at the corpse on the ground.
"Didn't you go to farm? How did you end up like this?" the Bad Guy teased, looking at Wang Yue with a surprised expression. She looked so hungry that she looked like she was about to eat someone.
"I'm fine," Wang Yue replied mechanically.
Excessive blood loss made her vision blurry, and she shook her head, trying to clear her mind.
"Has Cui Heng arrived?" she asked again.
"Not yet, but what's wrong with you?" the Bad Guy replied.
The candle on Wang Xiaoxia's head was almost burned out; Cui Heng should be arriving soon.
"Give me some of your blood to drink!" Wang Yue said, her eyes empty and staring blankly.
Besides feeling weak and powerless, the blood loss also brought her a thirst for fluids.
"I'm afraid I'll poison you to death," the rogue said irritably.
He stroked Wangyue's arm, briefly examined her, and found nothing seriously wrong except for excessive blood loss.
He didn't know why she had lost so much blood, but he still reached out and produced a knife to cut open her palm. Blood gushed out, and he guided it with his hand, pushing the blood away from behind Wang Yue, forming a blood-red barrier behind her. It took him a while to finally stop.
Wang Yue felt a little better, and her eyes were no longer sore and uncomfortable. She waited a while longer before Cui Heng arrived.
Cui Heng also looked pale and ashen. When he saw Wang Yue, he simply reached out and handed her a red candle.
"The soul-guiding wax you requested," Cui Heng said in a deep voice.
As soon as Wang Yue took the candle, the Bad Guy stood up and stared intently at Cui Heng, his fists clenched, struggling internally.
"Did you kill my father?" the Bad Guy asked through gritted teeth in a low voice, seething with resentment.
Cui Heng turned around and glanced at him indifferently, his expression calm and composed.
“Yes,” he replied.
The rogue suddenly raised his hand, a gentle breeze arose, and a sharp sword appeared in his hand. He thrust it fiercely at Cui Heng, but Cui Heng easily dodged it.
The Bad Guy turned around and stabbed again, but Cui Heng easily dodged it. After several rounds, Cui Heng finally became impatient. He raised his hand and swung it forcefully, and the strong spiritual energy hit the Bad Guy, sending him flying several steps and crashing to the ground.
Cui Heng nearly fell to the ground; his chest felt tight, and his heart ached.
The candle on the ground trembled slightly and almost went out, causing Wang Yue to frown.
"Enough! All of you, quiet down for a bit!" Wang Yue shouted sternly.
Just as the bad guys were about to get up and fight again, Wang Yue made them stop and nervously look at the candle above Wang Xiaoxia's head. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth unwillingly, glared at Cui Heng resentfully, and walked to Xiaoxia's side, looking at her nervously.
Wang Yue carefully placed Cui Heng's soul-guiding wax on Wang Xiaoxia's head. She raised her hand and immediately produced a knife to cut her palm. Blood flowed out, and she guided the blood to the candle. It looked like a weak flame swirling around the candle. Before long, the candle gradually caught fire.
A faint smell of blood wafted over, mingling with the scent of spider lilies, spreading around them. Soon, a wisp of crimson smoke drifted out from the candle flame, shooting straight into the air, swirling in mid-air before heading towards the River of Oblivion, continuing its downward trajectory even after falling into the water.
Everyone held their breath and waited silently, watching the wisp of red smoke drift into the depths of the River of Oblivion until it disappeared from sight.
Endless waiting and silence followed as the wisp of red smoke sank deeper and deeper, eventually tearing the candle to shreds and disappearing completely into the water.
"Where's Xiaoxia?" the Bad Guy asked anxiously as he lay by the river.
Wang Yue couldn't help but glance at Cui Heng, who was staring at the river in silence with a serious expression. Seeing that he hadn't noticed anything amiss, Wang Yue slowly spoke:
"He's dead. It's probably been too long to save him!"
Although she was answering the Bad Guys, she was deliberately saying this to Cui Heng.
"How could this be?" the Bad Guy murmured, his gaze still fixed on the river.
Cui Heng turned to look at Wang Yue, his face pale, and a faint, cold smile crept onto his lips.
"Are you worried that I might harm you, young lady?" Cui Heng asked directly.
Wang Yue blinked guiltily. After all, she was a thousand-year-old demon and not as easily fooled as those scoundrels. As for her, she didn't want her son to have any further involvement with these people, regardless of his life or death.
“I’m not worried about that. It’s just that you are the Ghost King’s man, and I had some grudges with that Ghost King in my previous life. I naturally don’t like you getting involved in my affairs,” Wang Yue said frankly.
"I have no other request, but please tell me the truth, young lady, whether I can come back to life. I... I will not go to see her," Cui Heng lowered his head and pleaded in a humble voice for the first time. For some reason, he felt a tightness in his chest and found it increasingly difficult to breathe.
He looked so pitiful that Wang Yue couldn't help but feel sorry for him, but when she saw Wang Xiaoxia's body covered in holes, her pity vanished.
"What if we can't?" Wang Yue replied indifferently.
Over the past seven days, Cui Heng has devoted countless efforts to refining the Soul-Guiding Wax. He escaped from the River of Oblivion and, with his old wounds still unhealed, risked his life to create the wax. Every drop of it was made from his heart's blood, leaving him physically weak. He has only managed to hold on until now because of news of Xiaoxia.
But upon hearing Wang Yue's words, it was as if the last bit of strength in his heart had been suddenly drained away. He felt an unbearable tightness in his chest, and when he tried to take a deep breath, he spat out a mouthful of blood onto the ground. His legs went weak, and he lost his balance and collapsed to the ground unconscious.
"What's wrong with him?" the Bad Guy asked in surprise.
“It seems that being a servant is his destiny,” Wang Yue murmured.
