Resurrection

Resurrection

"Wang Yue, can Xiao Xia live?" the Bad Guy asked, staring at Wang Xiao Xia's corpse on the ground.

The soul-guiding candle had burned out, but Wang Xiaoxia's body remained a pale gray, showing no sign of resurrection. Perhaps she had already died, and they were merely making a futile struggle.

"Let's go! Xiaoxia is still waiting for us," Wangyue said indifferently to Cui Heng, then turned and walked towards the spider lily she had planted without looking back.

Although the bad guys were puzzled, they still obediently followed.

The flowers on the ground were almost all the same, except for one that looked particularly beautiful from a distance. It was as red as blood, with a huge flower on top of its long stem. The flower bloomed without leaves, and the stamen looked as if blood was about to drip from it. It was extremely beautiful.

Wang Yue walked to the spider lily, cut her palm, and dripped her blood into the flower's stamen, muttering incantations:

"I will exchange my blood for his body, and the soul of that lowly Wang family member shall return swiftly!"

In an instant, a red light appeared, and a wisp of red light was drawn from the River of Oblivion and flew towards the other shore flower. It rushed straight into the flower's pistil and fell in completely. Before long, the flower was radiating red light as if it had a soul. For some reason, the flower looked exactly like Wang Xiaoxia.

"This flower?" The Bad Guy stared at the flower in confusion, muttering to himself, but dared not ask aloud, for fear of disturbing Wang Yue's ritual.

Wang Yue had already withdrawn her hand and taken a step back. She was a little unsteady on her feet and almost fell, but was caught by the Bad Guys.

"My body is no longer usable, so I asked Meng Po to reshape it for me," Wang Yue explained to the Bad Guys.

"So that's how it is. So you've been watering this flower with your blood these past few days?" the Bad Guy asked.

“Yes, how can a body of flesh and blood function without flesh and blood?” Wang Yue replied, her face pale, and gave a weak smile.

The red light from the flower's stamen gradually weakened, and the flower seemed to wither and droop its head helplessly. Just as the villain was about to step forward, a red light suddenly struck his eyes. He hurriedly covered his eyes with his sleeve, and when he looked up again, a graceful figure slowly rose from the depths of the red light. The light gradually dissipated, and Wang Xiaoxia, dressed in red, was standing in the red light.

She was more beautiful than before, looked more vibrant and energetic, and was no longer a human, but a demon.

“Wang Yue, Si Chen,” Wang Xiaoxia exclaimed as he opened his eyes and saw the two of them.

The bad guys laughed with delight and rushed to Wang Xiaoxia's side. Wang Yue also took two steps forward and showed a gratified smile.

"Little one, do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?" the bad guy asked hurriedly.

He couldn't help but reach out and pinch Wang Xiaoxia's arm, but then suddenly remembered the difference between men and women, and his hand quickly fell back down, though the joy in his eyes was hard to hide.

"It's nothing, it seems a bit lighter than before," Wang Xiaoxia replied, but her eyes were fixed on Wang Yue's pale face, and she couldn't help but frown.

“I smell like your blood all over me,” she said to Wangyue again.

"It's nothing. I lost some blood while changing your body, and I'm counting on you, the top courtesan, to earn me some money to help me recover. You don't know how much business has suffered at Wangyue Pavilion while you were gone for the past month," Wangyue joked, revealing a pale smile.

“Your body is a manifestation of the Red Spider Lily, so it is naturally much lighter than your former mortal body. You will need some time to adapt,” the Bad Guy explained to Wang Xiaoxia with tenderness, like an older brother.

"Why were you given a different body? I fell into the River of Oblivion and my soul has been drowning in the water ever since. I don't know what happened," Wang Xiaoxia said, puzzled.

“Let’s go! I’ll take you to see someone,” Wang Yue said.

She led Wang Xiaoxia to Cui Heng's place, where he was still lying unconscious on the ground, with Wang Xiaoxia's body beside him. The ground was covered with red spider lilies, and some petals were blown by the wind and fell onto Cui Heng. The red carpet on the ground looked like their wedding.

Wang Xiaoxia stood quietly in the hiding place, watching with a bitter expression and an almost imperceptible heartache on her face.

"He...is dead?" Wang Xiaoxia murmured, the word "dead" spoken so softly that it was easily dispelled by a gentle breeze.

“No, but I do have some questions for you,” Wang Yue replied, looking at Wang Xiaoxia carefully.

“When you jumped into the River of Oblivion, I saw a white figure jump down after you. This demon beast chased into the River of Oblivion to save you and risked his life to bring your body back. However, your soul was trapped in the River of Oblivion, so he risked his life to use his own heart's blood to refine the Soul-Guiding Wax, which finally saved your soul from the River of Oblivion,” Wang Yue said, her eyes fixed on Wang Xiaoxia’s face to see her reaction.

Wang Xiaoxia stared silently at the person on the ground, saying nothing.

“I heard about the Gu poison in your body. When you were rescued, your body was covered in holes, probably because you had attempted suicide multiple times over the years. Although the Wangchuan Belt captured your soul, it also took away the Gu poison from your body. You could say you turned misfortune into blessing. The demon beast thought you couldn't be saved, so it fainted. Although I don't know what happened between you two during this time, it seems to cherish you like its own life,” Wangyue continued.

The Bad Guys listened quietly from the side, observing Wang Xiaoxia's reaction. If someone truly loves another, it's easy to sense that person's feelings. Although Wang Xiaoxia didn't say anything, the bitterness in her eyes made the Bad Guys realize at a glance that she cared about that demon, and might even have fallen in love with him.

Wang Xiaoxia simply watched Cui Heng quietly. Her heart ached for his injuries, yet she also resented him—resented him for creating the puppet gu, and resented that it was because of him that she had lived for so many years in a state of neither life nor death. Though he wasn't the one who killed her, he walked alongside the killer; how was he any different from the killer?

Wang Xiaoxia closed his eyes and sighed heavily.

“Wang Yue, is there any medicine that can save him?” she asked.

“I did have a pill that I prepared for you, but now I don’t need it,” Wang Yue said.

On the very first day Wang Xiaoxia went to the Ghost Realm, she searched everywhere for medicine to protect his primordial spirit, hoping that if his primordial spirit was damaged, there would be medicine to heal him. Coincidentally, among the guests was an attendant of the Ten Kings of Hell, the Wheel King. The Wheel King is the god in charge of reincarnation, and it is said that he has medicine that can help people become immortals. Wang Yue devised a plan to make the attendant incur many debts, and then made him pay with immortal pills in order to obtain one of these pills. Now it seems that this pill can heal the primordial spirit of this demon beast that was injured by the water of the River of Oblivion.

“Since he was injured by me, let’s repay his kindness! That will settle things,” Wang Xiaoxia said to Cui Heng.

"Okay," Wang Yue replied, handing the medicine to Wang Xiaoxia.

Wang Xiaoxia took the medicine and walked lightly to Cui Heng, lifting his head and feeding him the medicine.

"Live on!" Wang Xiaoxia whispered in his ear.

The medicine flowed down Cui Heng's throat as soon as it entered his mouth, causing his Adam's apple to move slightly. He seemed to open his eyes, but then seemed not to open them at all, and then he fainted again.

Wang Yue and the Bad Guys stood behind Wang Xiaoxia waiting. Wang Xiaoxia put down Cui Heng, stood up, and his expression gradually turned cold.

“Wang Yue, for the past hundred years I have been living a life I could neither live nor die. Now that I have died once, my heart seems to have suddenly become much clearer,” Wang Xiaoxia said to Cui Heng, his gaze gradually dimming, as if he had made up his mind.

"What do you plan to do?" Wang Yue asked.

"Sichen," Wang Xiaoxia suddenly called out softly to the Bad Guys.

"Hmm?" the Bad Guy replied gently, looking at her tenderly.

“Come with me! I will help you get back everything you’ve lost,” Wang Xiaoxia said, her gaze growing colder.

"Okay," the bad guy replied indulgently, willing to give her anything she wanted.

Wang Yue sighed softly, both for Wang Xiaoxia and for that demon.

"Let's go! The ghost clan will be here soon. Do you still want that body?" Wang Yue said to Wang Xiaoxia one last time.

“Stay there! Let them see me die,” Wang Xiaoxia said, taking one last look at Cui Heng and her past.

When Cang Ze and his men arrived, they saw the bodies of Cui Heng and Wang Xiaoxia lying on the ground. The petals covering the ground obscured his view. He waved his hand, and countless petals were blown away by the wind, revealing the shocking holes in Wang Xiaoxia's body. When the person he had been longing for truly died in front of him, he suddenly felt an unbearable tightness in his chest, and then he spat out a mouthful of blood, which splattered onto the petals on the ground.

The attendant beside the "Your Majesty" quickly helped Cang Ze up.

"It's nothing, just an old injury that hasn't healed yet," Cang Ze said calmly.

"Take His Highness back and settle him in. Don't let anyone else see him," Cang Ze ordered.

"Alright, what about that mortal woman?" the attendant asked again.

"Since we've met by chance, let's bury him!" Cang Ze said indifferently, but his eyes were bloodshot with pain, and the veins on his forehead were bulging.

“Yes,” the servant replied.

Cang Ze turned around and took a step, but his legs gave way and he fell to the ground. It was as if the sky and the earth were connected and there was no place for him anymore. His heart also ached, as if it was being cut piece by piece with a dull knife. It was not fatal but it tormented him endlessly.

"Your Majesty!" the attendant hurriedly called out, helping Cang Ze up.

"It's alright, don't disturb anyone, just take me back to the palace," Cang Ze said with his last bit of strength.

Although Cang Ze remained conscious throughout the journey, he felt as if he had fallen into some kind of abyss and did not know how he returned to the Ghost King's Palace. Inside the palace, candlelight flickered. He locked himself in his study and dismissed everyone. This time, he did not leave any lights on, but instead plunged himself into deep darkness.

He slept fitfully that night. Wang Xiaoxia's body, riddled with holes, lay before him, oozing dark red pus and blood. The blood flowed more and more until it enveloped him. The strong smell of blood constantly irritated his nostrils. The pain in his chest subsided, replaced by a severe headache that felt like it was going to tear him apart.

He suddenly understood why Wang Xiaoxia called him Wu Huan when she tried to assassinate him that day. Perhaps she had never lost her memory, but he had trapped her in a state of neither life nor death with the puppet Gu and tormented her for a hundred years.

Will she remember that she killed her own family members with her own hands?

The more Cang Ze thought about it, the more his head throbbed with pain. He gritted his teeth and pressed his head against the wall, but the bloody holes all over his body became a nightmare that he couldn't shake off.
