Chapter 43 Night (Edited)

night,

The servants hung the lit lanterns high and went back to their houses to rest. Only the servants on patrol walked around the mansion in groups of three or five.

Le Jin waited for them to pass by her house before sneaking out.

After sneaking out of the yard, he went to the next house and met up with three girls. The four girls on the other side had other things to do, while the four of them were going to sneak into the house where the eldest daughter of the Li family had lived before her death.

"Hurry!" One person was observing and exploring the way in front, and the others followed her quickly, while paying attention to the movements behind them.

Because someone died in it, the house where the eldest daughter of the Li family lived has been empty ever since. An informed young lady had heard from outside the mansion that Madam Qian seemed to be planning to demolish the house...

Everyone felt that a house where someone had died was unlucky. Plus, the house was located in a remote area within the huge Qian Mansion, so the servants usually didn't like to go near it, making the house look even more desolate.

"So Miss Li lives here..." The girl walking in front of Le Jin sighed, "I heard people say that Miss Li would become rich and powerful after marrying into the Qian family, and live in a luxurious house. It turns out it was all a lie."

"That's right. The Qian family is used to cheating people. Now they have tricked so many of us into coming here to be buried with his son!" Another girl spat angrily.

"Go in quickly, be careful not to be discovered." Le Jin whispered.

Four people sneaked into the house, one stayed at the door to keep watch, and the other three searched separately.

The room was very dark, but they couldn't turn on the lights. Fortunately, after their eyes adjusted to the darkness, they could still see a lot of things.

The house has not been cleaned, it smells very dusty, and the things inside are in a mess.

Le Jin opened the cabinets one by one, making very quiet movements as she pulled them in. Most of the cabinets were empty, while some contained a few miscellaneous items that were of no use.

Until he opened a small box and discovered the interlayer inside.

There was a letter stuffed in the interlayer. He couldn't read it now, but he could put it in his clothes and take it back to read.

"Come here!" the girl in charge of searching the bedside called out softly, "Here!"

Le Jin leaned over, and she grabbed Le Jin's hand and touched the edge of the bed. There were shallow marks on it, as if they were made by scratching.

"There's something here too." Another girl found a medicine bottle from the brocade box on the antique shelf. There were still a few small pills left in it, and the smell was a bit pungent.

"What medicine is this?" Le Jin felt the note on the bottle, but couldn't see it clearly now: "I'll take it back."

They searched the house for a long time, and Le Jin found something angular under a tall cabinet, but they didn't know what it was.

He was about to speak when the girl on guard said, "Shh! Be quiet."

The patrol has arrived.

Through the doors and windows, they watched the light sway outside twice and then gradually disappear. Then they breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at each other.

"This room must have been cleaned before," a girl said on the way back. "Maybe it was cleaned briefly when your sister passed away, but not thoroughly. Since no one lived there after that, the servants were lazy, so we found these."

"Go back and put your things away. Don't move them. Bring them to our room tomorrow so we can look at them together. Don't just sit there and imagine things by yourself."

Perhaps they were afraid that Le Jin, Sister Li, would do something stupid or act impulsive, so they had to warn her.
