Chapter 218 The Fork in Fate

There were two silent people sitting at the dinner table.

They seemed unable to see Qiao Yan, and no one touched the food on the table.

"Eat something." The hunched man whispered, raising his head slightly to look at the woman opposite him. "Don't wait for the child to come back, or your body will collapse first."

"Heh." The man's words seemed to touch a certain spot in the woman. She sneered, "Only you can still eat it."

The man lowered his head in silence, but the woman raised her head. Qiao Yan saw her red and swollen eyes, the whites of her eyes were almost filled with red bloodshot, and her lips were chapped.

"That's not just my daughter!" She slammed the table, and Qiao Yan felt that the plates on the table were about to be shattered.

The woman's palms turned red because of this action, but she didn't seem to feel any pain, or maybe she could no longer feel the pain and just stared at the man opposite her.

"Look up at me!" The woman stretched out a hand, her arm stretched straight, her index finger pointed at the man like a sword. "If it weren't for you, if you hadn't answered that stupid phone call, how could the child have been lost?! You're not talking now, huh?!"

"I'm telling you, if the child can't be found, I'll never let you go!"

The whole room was filled with the woman's hysterical voice. She had no more tears to shed, but the man in front of her just kept his head down, which made her even angrier.

"Speak! Why aren't you speaking?! What did I say wrong?! What if you had asked her to wait by your side before answering the phone? What if you had looked at her more while you were on the phone? Why are you playing dead now?"

[So suffocating.]

【Is this man mute? 】

[This makes me so angry...]

【Alas, this is a tragedy.】

I finally understand what Lindy meant. Isn't this all just "fate"?

【It’s so painful for me to watch.】

【It makes my heart ache. 】

The atmosphere at the dinner table was very bad. Even though the woman's voice was hoarse, she showed no intention of stopping, and the man never spoke again.

Qiao Yan looked at him, her hands clenched into fists on her knees, and tears quietly fell where no one else noticed.

She suddenly realized that the two people in the room actually had the same feelings...

The woman's emotions gradually calmed down from the initial excitement and anger. They sat face to face again, with the cold food between them. The room was dead silent.

This might be their daily life after the accident, Qiao Yan thought.

But why let her see this?

Qiao Yan felt that the woman actually knew that she was not the missing child.

But she was still persistent, because of her name, or perhaps it was because she had existed for so many years before and after her death in order to find that child. Until now, the obsession was something she could not dispel.

Qiao Yan stood up, glanced at the haggard-looking woman, and walked out the door.

She couldn't be trapped here, she had to go out. Only by going out could the net that trapped this place be untied.

When I opened the door of Room 401, everything around me quickly faded and turned gray. All sounds disappeared and the world seemed like a silent movie.

Qiao Yan looked back at the closed door and sighed inwardly.

She returned to the street. The overwhelming number of missing person notices had become much more normal now. Only a small number remained on the walls and electric poles, and the color photos printed on them became the only colors in the world.

Qiao Yan walked over and peeled them off one by one, then brought them to the incinerator.

Inside the incinerator, the colorless flame flickered, but the heat did not diminish despite the disappearance of the color.

Qiao Yan took a last look at the missing person notices and threw them all into the incinerator.

The colorless flames devoured the remaining colors, and the "world" that trapped her completely collapsed.

When she came to her senses, Qiao Yan found herself still standing at the alley entrance. She looked up and saw that the sky had completely turned a light blue, but the sun had not yet risen.

The moon was no longer obscured by clouds, and its pale white color hung in the blue sky.

Xie Quanren was lying at the edge of the alley, his back against an electric pole, looking like he was fast asleep, but Qiao Yan knew that he must be trapped somewhere else just like herself.

I just don't know if he will wake up again.

Qiao Yan took off her coat, covered him with it, and took the community gate key from his trouser pocket.

Looking at Xie Quan lying there, Qiao Yan pursed her lips. She couldn't move such a person, and she still had things to do, so the person should stay here.

As for what she is going to do, to put it bluntly, she is going to - change her destiny.

【You don't care about that?】

【Is Xiao Xie dead? 】

The host's clothes covered her neck and not her face, so she must be alive.

[So what is the anchor doing now? Isn't he going to wake up Xiao Xie?]

[I don't know, are we going to fight a female ghost? ]

Before the barrage of comments came around the corner, Qiao Yan had already arrived downstairs of the residential complex.

She opened the door with the key, then put it back into the empty security booth and glanced at the clock in the middle.

"Huh?" A voice came from behind. Qiao Yan turned around and saw that it was a security guard in uniform. "What are you doing here, little girl?"

"Uncle, good morning." Qiao Yan said with a smile, pointing to the key on the table: "I found it on the ground and came to return it, but no one is here."

"Hey, it fell outside!" The security guard slapped his thigh and said, "You don't know, I just went out to look for my keys! If I didn't have a spare key, I wouldn't have been able to get in this morning!"
