"Because your brother isn't rich at school. They look down on poor boys and only like rich kids, those from wealthy and powerful families."
Chu Jiangning was puzzled and confused. "Why not tell that woman the truth about your family? Maybe..."
"I don't need it. Besides, I'm not rich. My parents have already said that the money in the family was created by him and my mother, and we can't squander the fruits of their labor."
"If you want to live a certain kind of life in the future, you can only rely on your own hands to earn it. Don't always think about reaping the benefits without lifting a finger and being a useless person who expects everything to be done for you. Otherwise, your brother will just be a poor boy, and it won't make a difference."
Chu Jiangning nodded as if she understood, but couldn't quite put her finger on it. That's what her dad had said, and she couldn't find any reason to refute it.
Just like her, she usually walks to and from get out of class, and no one knows the true situation of her family. In everyone's eyes, she is just an ordinary girl.
There's nothing wrong with what my brother did.
“Brother, you’re right. That’s what Mom and Dad said. Don’t use their names to swindle or deceive others. Strictly speaking, we’re not rich kids or wealthy people.”
Chu Jiang also said irritably, "It's good that you know. Besides, if someone only befriends you because you're rich or a rich kid, you're better off without that kind of person."
"See that?"
"What?"
"My brother's four good friends, they are all my brother's true friends and good brothers."
Chu Jiangning was bewildered. "Is Sister Ran also among your good brothers?"
Everyone wore expressions of anticipation, as if they were watching a good show.
Chu Jiang also stammered, "No, I didn't. You're just a kid, mind your own business. Who told you I considered Xi Ran a good brother?"
Chu Jiangning patted his chest, looking utterly shocked, and said, "It's good that she's not a brother. I can treat Sister Ran as my future sister-in-law. You'd better put in a good effort!"
Chu Jiangyi grabbed Chu Jiangning and covered her mouth, saying, "What nonsense are you spouting, you little brat? Believe me or not, I'll beat you up."
Chu Jiangning blinked, escaping Chu Jiangyi's grasp, "Oh? I see. You don't like Sister Ran's type, but prefer Sun Qing's. Your taste is really not that great."
Chu Jiang hurriedly explained, "No, I didn't. Who told you I like Sun Qing's type? I don't like her. I like Xi Ran's type. I feel very at ease when I see her."
Everyone watched with expressions of anticipation, while Xi Ran blushed deeply, staring intently at her white sneakers as if they were blooming.
Xi Ran pretended not to notice their teasing glances.
Chu Jiang also sensed Xi Ran's urgency and quickly smoothed things over by changing the subject, "Which one do you want to play later? Does anyone like to ride the giant pendulum or the 42-meter-high roller coaster? I'll accompany you to the end."
Chu Jiangyi was met with silence; no one responded.
Chu Jiang also looked surprised and asked incredulously, "No way, no way, you grown men don't even dare to ride the giant pendulum or the high-altitude roller coaster, you're too cowardly."
As if their thoughts had been exposed, the elevator fell silent until it dinged and the elevator arrived at its destination, at which point everyone stepped out.
Chu Jiang, unwilling to give up, pressed them for their answers.
Xiao Zhebin felt a little guilty. In fact, he didn't dare to play such a thrilling game, so he made up a reason.
"I'm afraid of heights!"
The other two nodded in agreement.
"I'm afraid of heights too!"
"I'm even more afraid of heights!"
Chu Jiang was speechless and said irritably, "Is acrophobia contagious? One or two of you are afraid of heights. I could believe it if two girls said they were afraid of heights, but I didn't expect a bunch of grown men to be afraid of heights together."
Xiao Zhebin retorted, "There's no rule in the world that says men who are afraid of heights are committing a crime, is there?"
Qiu Bojie said, "That's right, that's right. Those giant swings and high-altitude roller coasters are not suitable for us. They're too scary. Just looking at them makes my legs weak."
Wen Jincheng agreed wholeheartedly, saying, "We are civilized people, so let's play some civilized games to regulate our emotions. We won't play any dangerous games."
Everyone agreed.
Chu Jiang also said irritably, "So, out of all these people, I'm the only one who's uncivilized?"
Everyone cast a knowing look at him, as if to say, "You'll understand."
