3 Chapter 3
The sudden appearance of Nakahara Chuuya and Bai Libian was enough to throw the already guilty 'Sheep' into disarray. Even though he knew he was not morally superior, Shirase still decided to take the initiative. "Chuuya, what kind of mess have you brought back? Do you really want to leave 'Sheep'?"
Shirase thought that Nakahara Chuuya would still argue with him as before, and he could take advantage of this time to inform GSS. Unexpectedly, Nakahara Chuuya did not make too many excuses. He just took Bailibian's hand and controlled gravity to fly him to the middle of the flock of sheep. Although the range of 10 meters was more than enough, it was better to occupy a good position first to be on the safe side.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but to ensure the smooth progress of this conversation, I hope you can tolerate my presence." Bailibianhe, the still bewildered lambs, said this before signaling Nakahara Chuuya to begin. But before Nakahara Chuuya could speak, Shirase spoke first, "As expected, Chuuya, even if you say something nice, you've already considered the sheep a burden! You didn't come back last night on purpose, didn't you? Have you found a new backer and just tossed us aside?"
"I haven't joined a new organization. How many times do I have to tell you, Shirase, before you believe me? I've never thought about leaving 'Sheep'! This is my home!" Nakahara Naka said unyieldingly.
Yuxing, standing nearby, raised her lips sarcastically and joined the conversation, "Who is this guy then? What's your point in bringing him back?" She pointed at Bailibian, who was standing behind Chuuya, and said confidently, "It's obvious he's not from Leibo Street. The reason you rejected the Port Mafia is because you found other wealthy people!"
"Shut up, Yuxing!" Zhongyuan Zhongye looked at Bailibian worriedly. The other party got into this matter because of him, and now the other party was involved... Bailibian gave him a comforting look. He was used to being suddenly given more roles - after all, the domineering CEOs in City A always love to be jealous.
Nakahara Chuuya took a deep breath and said in a deep voice, "What are the benefits of joining the GSS? Do you actually think that as long as you join them, you will no longer be in danger? More people die in that organization every day than all of you combined!" He paused, lowered his voice, and continued, "An organization like 'Sheep', which is composed entirely of minors, is no match for the other members. What's the point of joining? Just to be cannon fodder? What's more, many of you have never even killed anyone! Do you think all organizations in the world are like 'Sheep'?"
Unexpectedly, the person who spoke this time was neither Shirase nor Yuuko, but someone else in the corner. The other person lowered his head very low, and Bailibian could not see his face clearly. He could only hear the other person's low voice, "Then what can we do? Is there any other solution? Is there any other way to survive! If there is a choice, if there is a choice,... I don't want to live like this anymore." These words resonated with most people. They may not be unaware that their behavior was a betrayal, but after leaving Zhongyuanzhong, it seemed that there was no other way to survive. Apart from doing what Shirase said, they could not find any other way to survive.
Such words left Nakahara Chuuya silent. True, he couldn't find a way to keep so many people alive. But if nothing could be changed, what was the point of returning? What was the point of Ozawa Zheng and Bailibian risking their lives to tell him everything? If there was only one way to keep the 'sheep' alive, then perhaps it would have been best for him to have known nothing from the beginning. After all, he was the leader.
"We've reached a stalemate so quickly. You're such a simple-minded slug, indeed."
Nakahara Chuuya looked up in disbelief. It was Dazai Osamu, who had somehow infiltrated their negotiations. Noticing Nakahara Chuuya's gaze, Dazai Osamu didn't pause, but continued forward, approaching the center.
Watching Dazai Osamu approaching step by step, Nakahara Chuuya lost his previous resistance for the first time. He asked reluctantly: "You, what do you want?" He always knew that the port mafia wanted to recruit him, and perhaps he could make some contribution to the 'sheep'.
"Are you actually going to give up? What a pity! You persisted for so long, but just a few words from your so-called companions made you give up everything willingly." Dazai Osamu showed his gloating without any concealment, and then said dejectedly: "It's too late, everything is too late. If you had woken up earlier, maybe you could have joined the Port Mafia. Mr. Mori would definitely be very happy. What a pity, what a pity..."
Does this mean he's lost his chance at a deal? How could this be? The feeling of powerlessness soaked Chuuya Nakahara's skin like falling raindrops. He truly was an incompetent leader.
"Now I can only help you for free. If I get nothing in return, Mr. Mori will cry to death∽∽" Looking at Nakahara Chuuya who was in self-loathing, Dazai Osamu showed a smug smile.
What?
Not only Nakahara Chuuya, but Sheep was also shocked. Free help? How could this be possible? The other party was the Port Mafia!
"Hey, what do you mean! Free of charge, no need to pay a price?" Nakahara Chuuya couldn't wait to ask.
Dazai stretched leisurely, then said, "Idiots are idiots. I've made it clear. You don't have to pay the price. Someone else will." He couldn't help but laugh when he thought of Mori Ogai's deflated expression when he learned that Randou was actually a Transcendent. Poor Mori, he had lost both the wife and the army. To express his apology, he even had to offer to help Chuuya Nakahara solve the problem to show his goodwill to the Transcendent. It was really funny.
Someone else will pay the price? Could it be... Rambo! Nakahara Chuuya realized that the other party had made a deal with the Port Mafia without telling him, so what price did he pay? Although Lan Tang had explained their relationship to him last night and apologized for his previous behavior, he still believed that the sheep was his own business and should be handled by him alone. He had never expected that the other party would be willing to help him. Was it for his brother?
No matter what, he must remember this favor from the other party.
Rimbaud had certainly done this on purpose. Although Nakahara Chuuya had agreed to go with him to find Verlaine, there was no guarantee he wouldn't suddenly change his mind if there wasn't sufficient benefit, or perhaps suddenly dive right out of the water after finding Verlaine. He had originally intended to find a chance to deepen their bond, and the other party had just mentioned the "sheep." How could he squander this opportunity right before his eyes?
As for Morio, the Transcendent had come personally, so how could he possibly plan anything? If they bombed him out of frustration, that was a minor issue. But if they destroyed all of Yokohama, he'd be damned. Aside from a cheerful promise to resolve the situation and improve their relationship, he had to swallow the remaining regret and pain himself.
Nakahara Chuuya watched Dazai Osamu smoothly make his way through the crowd into the center. He then fluently explained the future arrangements for the "sheep." Those who wanted to join the mafia could join and work in logistics for the port mafia. Those who wanted nothing to do with the other world could simply receive a sum of money and leave. It was a fantastic arrangement. Nakahara Chuuya watched his companions' eyes light up, knowing clearly that this arrangement met all their needs, and it only solidified his resolve to find a chance to repay Rimbaud.
Having said what needed to be said, Dazai waved his hand, telling the lambs to follow the people arranged by Mori Ogai. Then he said to Nakahara Chuuya and Bailibian, "Mr. Mori invites you to meet him." Seeing Nakahara Chuuya's hesitation, he continued, "Don't be afraid—your dearest Mr. Rimbaud is there too."
Dazai Osamu was met with a blow from Nakahara Chuuya, who bluntly shouted at him, "I'm afraid? Are you kidding me? I'll go with you." Nakahara Chuuya then turned his head and said gratefully, "Baili, thank you for today. I'll take you home. I'll come find you when this is over."
Before Bailibian could respond, Dazai Osamu interrupted and said, "How rude! You actually turned down someone else's invitation on my behalf without my permission. You're truly an unreasonable psychic."
"What nonsense are you talking about!" Nakahara Chuuya shouted angrily at Dazai Osamu, who was still pinned to the floor, and then kicked him again. Then, frowning, he asked tentatively, "Bai Li, I don't mean to make the decision for you. Do you want to go? If you do, we can go together." In Nakahara Chuuya's mind, although Bai Li was a psychic, he had obviously never been exposed to the other world and would not be willing to be involved with an organization like the Port Mafia.
Baili Bian smiled and said, "It's okay, let's go together." Having grown up in City A, he knew full well that once targeted by a figure like the Dark Night Emperor, there was no escape. Rather than leaving danger behind, it was better to face it head-on. It also avoided the irritating impression of "How dare you reject me? You're such a jerk! I'm growing more and more interested in you." Besides, he had seen the so-called king of the dark world before.
Bailibian's frank attitude made Zhongyuan Zhongye's worries seem unnecessary. However, he still secretly made up his mind not to let Bailibian be harassed.
Bai Libian's expression wasn't exactly expressionless, but it certainly wasn't fazed. Whether he was walking between the five buildings, seeing the black-clad man handling the door handles, or even when Dazai Osamu led them to the elevator and happened to pass the "trash" in front of them, no one showed any regret. His demeanor was even calmer than Chuuya Nakahara's on his first visit to □□.
But this calmness began to crack when Bailibian saw Sen Ouwai.
Bailibian's slightly stiff body could not hide it from Dazai Osamu's eyes, which instead aroused his curiosity. Although the other party had been well-behaved and calm along the way, why did he become nervous when he saw Mori Ougai?
Could it be that the two of them had met before? Dazai Osamu speculated silently.
Baili Bian had seen many so-called "Kings of the Underworld," and even more so, "Emperors of the Dark Night." After all, their numbers were so vast that even if Baili Bian had been an ordinary person in City A, he'd inevitably run into one. As for the probability of encountering one, it was probably one every five steps, three every ten. Because of this, he'd seen many different styles of "Lords of Darkness": the devilishly charming, the enchantingly amorous, the suave and romantic, the coldly ruthless, the yandere and alluring... But he'd never seen one with the lingering charm of Mori Ouwai.
To put it simply, a new type of stamp appeared in Bailibian's stamp album.
Zhongyuan Chuuya was originally worried that Mori Ougai would threaten Bailibian with both soft and hard tactics like he did to him last time, but he never expected that this time the other party had changed his personality, focusing on being kind, gentle, and understanding, and he looked like he would never interfere with the fate of others.
Moriogai's heart ached, but he couldn't say it. If he did, his life would be wiped out. Although he desperately wanted to bring the newly emerged Hyakubean, rumored to be a powerhouse like No Longer Human, under his wing after missing out on the diamond in the pudding, Nakahara Chuuya's wariness and Lambo's warning meant he didn't dare pull any tricks during the meeting. He could only manage to make himself familiar, at least to avoid offending the other party. As for the rest, he'd have to work on it slowly and slowly.
