Chapter 795. Fortune Turns Around

Chapter 795 Fortune Turns Around

"Master, are you still upset about this?" Uncle Feng couldn't help but advise when he saw the old man sighing, "You've already agreed, why make things difficult for yourself?"

"I agreed, but I feel uneasy, like something is stuck in my throat."

"Second Master is not the kind of person who would do something foolish, so you can rest assured."

"Hmph." The old man snorted coldly: "Since ancient times, many heroes have fallen for the charms of a beautiful woman. He suddenly pulled this stunt on me. I think that woman is not simple either, that she can make him so determined."

Uncle Feng smiled and reminded him, "Second Master is such a smart man, he wouldn't make such a mistake. Over the years, so many women have thrown themselves at him with ulterior motives, when has he ever made a mistake?"

Uncle Feng's words were true, and the old man felt better after hearing them.

“I see you’re tired of staying at home. Now that the weather is getting warmer, why don’t you go see Master Yu?” Uncle Feng suggested. “You have a wall in your heart, it would be good to let Master Yu help you open it up.”

The old man remained silent for a while after hearing this, then nodded: "That's an idea. I haven't visited him in a long time. His birthday party was too noisy the other day. Could you help me contact him and ask Master Yu when he'll be free?"

"Prepare two bottles of my 'Seahorse Wine' for the master; he said he liked it last time."

Upon hearing this, Uncle Feng nodded in agreement and went back to prepare.

That evening, the old lady called Shen Jingjing again.

"Your brother is going there next week. He'll check which day has the cheapest tickets, and then he'll let you know when he's bought them. You go pick him up." The old lady's words were directives, without even asking Shen Jingjing's opinion.

Chen Chengcheng's voice followed closely on the other end of the phone: "Sis, I'll stay at your place then. No need to tidy up. If there's an extra room, I'll sleep in the guest room. If not, I'll sleep on the sofa or even on the floor. It's all the same."

"You think your sister will let you sleep on the floor or sofa after you go there? Just shut up."

The old lady said into the phone again, "Your brother said you don't need to worry about anything else. He's going to look for Xiaomin. Whether he can find her or not, he has to keep looking."

"Mom." Shen Jingjing held the phone, not flustered by hearing that her younger brother was coming soon, but calmly said, "Don't let him come. I was just planning to go back for a couple of days."

"Back?" The old woman was startled and instinctively asked, "What are you doing back?"

Shen Jingjing sighed, "I need to go to my dad's grave. This is the twentieth year; I have to go back."

Her reminder made the old lady realize, "Oh dear, that seems so. We have to come back."

According to the customs of my hometown, if a person dies on the anniversary of their death, such as the tenth or twentieth year, the living children and relatives must go back to pay their respects. Otherwise, they are considered unfilial and will be looked down upon.

"Then you'll have to bring your sister back too," the old lady said.

"I'll talk to her about it."

"Okay, then I won't let your brother go for now. I forgot about your dad. If I had remembered earlier, I would have had a reason to stop him and prevent him from causing trouble."

The old lady didn't really want her son to go to Longcheng, but once she heard there was a reason, she immediately agreed.

"Will Aci and Xingxing come back?" The old lady rarely asked such a question, but she was also thinking that it would be a good omen if there were many people around during the ancestral worship ceremony.

"We'll discuss this ourselves. Both of them still have to go to school, so they might not be able to get that many days off."

"Hey, visiting your dad's grave is the important thing, at least bring one back, right?"

"I know, let's discuss it."

After hanging up the phone, Shen Jingjing looked at her daughter and sighed helplessly, "I knew your second uncle was impulsive, so I prepared this a long time ago. If he really wants to come, then I'll go back."

Shen Ci smiled upon hearing this while holding the bowl, but also said seriously, "It's time to go back. I'll go back with you."

"Don't you feel awkward?" Shen Jingjing asked her daughter. She had only taken her daughter back three times since she was a child, and the last time was several years ago.

Shen Ci said honestly, "Of course we'll feel distant, but I'm just going back with you, it has nothing to do with them."

“Mom, you can’t keep your affair with Uncle Jiang a secret. Uncle Jiang’s status is what it is, and sooner or later everyone will find out. If you don’t deal with those people back home, there will be trouble in the future.”

Shen Ci knew what kind of people those were back in his hometown.

She also knew that her mother was quite lucid, so she hadn't gone back to visit her much over the years.

But she also knew that it was unrealistic to expect her mother to sever ties with those people; her mother was clear-headed but definitely not a heartless person.

Shen Jingjing was also worried: "If we have a wedding, we can't just not invite them."

She had no conflicts with her brothers; while not close, they weren't estranged either. She felt no reason not to invite relatives to her wedding, as if she were afraid her poorer relatives would benefit from her marriage into a wealthy family.

Shen Jingjing had never thought of it that way.

She just wants to live her own life. She has already given enough to her family and only hopes that her future days will not be disturbed.

Shen Ci understood her mother's thoughts, but the truth couldn't be hidden forever. Fortunately, the two places were far apart, and distance could keep most of the trouble at bay.

"It's fine to invite her, Mom, don't feel guilty." Shen Ci reached out and held her mother's hand, smiling slightly. "I think this time when we go back, we might as well not hide anything from each other."

"Huh?" Shen Jingjing was taken aback, not understanding what her daughter meant: "What do you mean? You've confessed everything?"

Shen Ci chuckled and shook his head: "There's no obligation to be honest, but we should just act in whatever state we're in now."

"I've always believed in the principle that once you become rich, you'll be surrounded by good people."

"Over the years, you and your aunt have been neglected at home because you are daughters. Even when you work hard outside, you are still looked down upon."

"But everything is different now, so why should we hide it? I'd really like to see how your two uncles fawn over you."

Shen Jingjing laughed upon hearing this: "That's a perverse sense of humor."

“I don’t think so.” Shen Ci shrugged. “Although I’ve only been back to my hometown a few times, I remember clearly how they treated you each time. What goes around comes around. Now we can go back with our heads held high, so why do we still have to hide?”

"Besides, it can't be hidden; they'll find out sooner or later."

Shen Jingjing pondered for a moment and felt that her daughter made more sense. If she kept it a secret and the old lady and the others found out, it would only cause more trouble. It would be better to take advantage of this trip back to her hometown to openly show her what she was doing.
