At this critical moment, a cold light shot out from the darkness, carrying a chilling killing intent, and pierced straight into the mouthparts of the mutated butterfly.
With a dull thud, the mutated butterfly's massive body trembled violently, instantly releasing its grip on Du Hui's feet. She fell heavily to the ground like a kite with a broken string, and pain instantly engulfed her entire body.
But Du Hui had no time to care about any of that. This time, she didn't act coquettishly. Instead, she endured the excruciating pain all over her body and quickly rolled under a large desk next to her.
Hiding in the shadow of her desk, Du Hui gasped for breath, relieved to have survived the ordeal, but her gaze remained fixed on the blurry, slender figure in the distance.
Having been in darkness for a long time, Du Hui gradually became able to see more clearly. Through the gaps between the desks, she could barely make out the outline of the person.
The other person held a crossbow, stood tall and straight, and the hem of his coat outlined a perfect curve, as if he were a savior who had emerged from the darkness to rescue her.
"Ugh!!"
Having survived the ordeal, Du Hui was terrified. She quickly covered her mouth as soon as she managed to cry out, afraid that she would attract the attention of the mutated butterflies.
Xiao Jin stood in front, slowly lowering the composite crossbow in his hand.
She had heard some noises upstairs, and after thinking about it, she went downstairs to find them. As soon as she got to the first floor, she heard someone screaming. After running over, she saw Du Hui being held in mid-air, and quickly rescued her.
After the attack was completed, Xiao Jin could see the other person's appearance clearly in the darkness.
At first, Xiao Jin also thought the monster was a butterfly, but then she realized that it was not a butterfly at all, but a large moth.
This moth looks somewhat like an enlarged version of the ghost face hawk moth. It is dark brown overall, with skull-shaped markings on its thorax and back. Its face is ferocious and has features, hence the name ghost face hawk moth.
This hawk moth is very active at night. The closed doors and windows of the building, which is never exposed to sunlight, are a good habitat for the ghost-faced hawk moth, but it is also attracted to light.
Perhaps the candlelight attracted the hawkmoths, which is why the players were attacked. Xiao Jin has night vision and doesn't need any lights, which is why she hadn't encountered them.
The Ghostface Moth felt a sharp pain from Xiao Jin's attack, and its anger erupted like a volcano. Its compound eyes, which were usually hidden in the darkness of night, now flashed with a crimson light.
Large clumps of bright red blood gushed from its twisted mouthparts, like fine spider silk, appearing even more eerie under the moonlight, slowly dripping onto the dusty tiles with a dull "patter" sound.
Xiao Jin frowned slightly. She finally understood where that strange, unpleasant smell was coming from!
The next second, the Ghostface Moth waved its broad wings, the edges of which were like two sharp blades, rapidly waving in the night sky, bringing with them gusts of howling wind. Its sharp legs, with tips that gleamed coldly, drew chilling trajectories in the air, heading straight for Xiao Jin.
Xiao Jin swiftly dodged the legs that were powerful enough to pierce steel. The long sword in his hand gleamed coldly in the moonlight. He then leaped up, raised the sword high, and with a whooshing sound, slashed fiercely down at the wings of the Ghost-faced Moth.
The sharp whistling sound of the blade cutting through the air could almost be heard, and dazzling sparks burst forth the moment the blade made contact with the moth's wing.
With a deafening roar, the Ghostface Moth let out a shrill cry, a shocking crack appeared on its wing, and viscous liquid mixed with streaks of electricity sprayed out, filling the entire space with a pungent smell of burning and blood.
Xiao Jin landed firmly on his feet, his long sword still gripped tightly in his hand, his eyes fixed on the wounded but even more ferocious Ghost-faced Moth.
After several intense exchanges, Xiao Jin suddenly felt a strange dizziness wash over her. Although it wasn't severe, it still made her movements involuntarily slow down a bit.
At the same time, a muffled thud suddenly came from beside Xiao Jin.
'Bang!'
Under the desk, Du Hui swayed, then collapsed to the ground, her body hitting the corner of the desk with a thud.
Upon closer inspection, her eyes were glazed over, her breathing became rapid and heavy, and an unnatural bluish-black tinge was quietly spreading across her face.
It's obvious that they've been poisoned.
Xiao Jin was startled and immediately took out a gas mask from her spatial storage and put it on her face. After carefully observing her surroundings, she indeed found some extremely fine particulate dust in mid-air.
And this dust spreads rapidly from the hawk moth's body to the surroundings with each flap of its wings.
After securing her mask, Xiao Jin's dizziness lessened considerably. Her gaze sharpened, and she raised her knife to face the Ghost Face Moth once more.
About ten minutes later, the Ghost-faced Moth was clearly no match for Xiao Jin, and its attack was losing momentum. Large patches of blood dripped onto the ground, covering the tiles, making it easy to slip if one wasn't careful.
There are hardly any good places left to stand on the ground now, so you can imagine how much blood the hawk moth has shed.
Finally, as the Ghostface Moth was on the verge of death, it tried to escape. Xiao Jin reacted quickly, kicking a table away and blocking the office doorway.
For a creature of its size to try and squeeze through those small windows in the wall is a pipe dream.
Seeing that it couldn't escape, the Ghostface Moth decided to go all out. A sound wave emanated from its body. Although Xiao Jin didn't hear it, the surrounding windows were instantly shattered, and the tables and chairs around the moth were pushed aside by the sound wave.
Around the hawk moth, a clearing with a diameter of three meters had appeared.
Xiao Jin raised his hand to block in front of him, his feet seemingly rooted to the ground, not moving an inch.
As the sound waves spread rapidly, the air seemed to be torn apart by invisible blades, and every inch of space trembled with an uneasy premonition. The rustling sounds instantly converged into a surging wave, pressing closer and closer until the entire building was enveloped in an ominous roar.
'Snap!'
Just then, the windowpane cracked inch by inch under the invisible pressure, finally giving way and bursting with a crisp, ear-piercing shattering sound. Immediately afterwards, a black torrent, accompanied by shards of broken glass, surged into the room at an almost frenzied speed.
Those were thousands upon thousands of tiny moths, their wings beating at an astonishing speed, creating a suffocating gust of wind that instantly made the surrounding area incredibly crowded.
Xiao Jin's eyes suddenly sharpened in the darkness. She quickly pulled out a large fireproof cloth and several sealed bottles of liquor from her spatial storage. With a flick of her wrist, the bottles traced graceful arcs in the air before being tossed into the air with perfect accuracy.
At the same time, Xiao Jin's hands swept across the ground quickly, grabbing sharp pieces of wood. With a flick of his wrist, the wood chips, accompanied by a sharp whooshing sound, accurately struck the wine bottles in the air. The bottles shattered instantly, and the liquid inside traced brilliant trails in the dim air.
