Chapter 387 Level

We rested for a few hours until the sun was setting but hadn't yet set.

Only then did they start anew.

After driving for two hours, from a distance, Xiao Jin and the other two noticed the long convoy ahead.

"Looks like this is the place!" Duan Chenghong was extremely excited.

Once they enter the safe zone, they will be safe.

Ahead was clearly a checkpoint specially set up by the safe zone, specifically to check whether passersby were carrying the zombie virus.

The road to the safe zone was completely blocked by heavy roadblocks and sandbags, and a sense of oppression and tension filled the air.

Only by passing through these layers of checkpoints can one possibly step into that relatively safe haven.

The area in front of the checkpoint was packed with people, and everyone's face was filled with anxiety and longing.

They pushed and shoved each other, or whispered to each other, trying to find a sliver of comfort in each other's eyes.

However, amidst this chaos and unease, the most striking figures were the armed guards on both sides of the checkpoint.

They were dressed in black tactical vests, helmets, and camouflage paint on their faces, fully armed, like cold statues, staring intently at everyone.

His eyes were sharp as an eagle's, not missing a single suspicious movement.

The setting sun shone through the sparse clouds, casting dappled shadows on the checkpoint, but it could not dispel the gloom that permeated the area.

The automatic rifles in the guards' hands gleamed coldly in the sunlight. Their fingers rested lightly on the triggers, their muscles tense, ready to deal with any possible emergencies.

At the very front of the checkpoint stood several doctors wearing white coats and full-face protective masks.

Their eyes, hidden behind goggles, were unusually calm and serious.

At this moment, the doctors held rows of test strips tightly in their hands, and everyone who wanted to enter the safe zone had to extend their finger for the doctor to draw blood.

Blood dripped onto the tiny test strip. Only if the result was positive would the test be allowed to proceed; otherwise…

Xiao Jin, sitting in the car, found the scene quite amusing.

She never expected that the government of this world could produce a test strip for detecting the zombie virus so quickly.

The line moved slowly and heavily forward, with vehicles joining it one after another.

Xiao Jin and her group's car moved slowly with the procession, the low hum of the engine mingling with the noise of the surrounding crowd.

The air was thick with the smells of gasoline, sweat, and a barely perceptible sense of dread, making one hold their breath.

Time ticked by, and the scenery outside the car window seemed to be paused. Xiao Jin watched, realizing it would take at least an hour before it was their turn to get in line.

Just then, a series of hurried footsteps broke the silence in front of the checkpoint.

A ragged, pale-faced man staggered towards them, his eyes filled with fear and despair.

"Please, let me in, my daughter is inside..."

The guards immediately became alert, pointed their guns at him, and shouted for him to stop.

"Stop! Don't move!"

However, the man seemed not to hear him and continued to rush forward, even shoving the guards.

This sudden action backfired, completely shattering the tense atmosphere.

The guard's expression changed instantly. Without the slightest hesitation, he swiftly raised his gun, aimed it at the man's finger, and pulled the trigger.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Several crisp and deadly gunshots echoed in the open space, sending chills down one's spine.

The surrounding crowd seemed to be pulled by an invisible force, and they all screamed in panic.

On the other side, several shocking bloody holes suddenly appeared on the man's chest, and blood gushed out like a flood, staining his clothes red.

The man staggered a few steps, his body swaying precariously, and finally collapsed to the ground, his eyes still fixed on the safe zone not far away, filled with resentment.

"Murder! Murder!" Screams rose and fell all around, like flames ignited by fear, spreading rapidly and burning everyone's hearts with anxiety.

The crowd began to scatter and flee, some trying to find cover, while others simply ran blindly.

The guard captain in charge of the checkpoint glared fiercely at the subordinate who had fired the shot without authorization.

Without hesitation, he raised his gun, muzzle pointing upwards, and fired several shots in quick succession.

The piercing gunshots echoed like thunder in everyone's ears, shaking their very souls.

People instinctively covered their heads and squatted on the ground, swallowing back the screams they were about to utter.

A moment later, the guard captain spoke up: "Behave yourselves. I don't care if you lure the zombies here. I'll say it again."

He tapped the notice board next to him with the muzzle of his gun: "No one is allowed to cut in line. Everyone must undergo virus testing. Also, anyone who is injured must explain the source of their wound and go to the quarantine area for isolation."

You can enter the safe zone after 6 hours if nothing happens.

Now, the team continues...

No one dared to say a word, and they silently rearranged the line. The dead man was dragged away by the guards.

Behind him, Duan Chenghong slammed his hand heavily on the steering wheel, his face filled with resentment.

"How could they do this? They could have just driven him away, why did they have to kill him!"

Xiao Jin stared ahead for a long time. It seemed that the water in this safe zone was very deep, and those guards were definitely not from a proper military background.

Xiao Jin: "Keep a low profile once you're inside, and try not to get into any conflicts with the guards."

Once they entered the safe zone, Xiao Jin would have to part ways with Duan Chenghong's family, which would be considered her final piece of advice.
