Chapter 421 Strange Fruit

Under the moonlight, Xiao Jin walked steadily through the island's lush vegetation.

A gentle night breeze carries the salty dampness of the sea and an unknown coolness.

She told Cen Nian she was going to head inland, but nothing had actually happened; she was just being cautious as always.

In the heart of the island, amidst tranquility, Xiao Jin's gaze was suddenly drawn to a unique coconut tree.

Xiao Jin thought she wouldn't find anything, but she never expected to have an unexpected surprise.

This tree was quite different from the others of its kind. Its bark was an unusual black, and because it was late and Xiao Jin was focused on his safety, he had momentarily overlooked its existence.

At this moment, under the faint moonlight, the coconut tree stands there quietly, exuding an indescribable aura.

What surprised Xiao Jin even more was that the tree trunk was covered with intricate and varied patterns.

Under the moonlight, these patterns appeared and disappeared, and upon closer inspection, they even resembled a human face.

Such a scene seemed particularly eerie in the quiet night, sending chills down one's spine.

Although Xiao Jin was shocked, he remained outwardly calm.

She slowly looked around. In the darkness of the night, everything seemed to be asleep in the embrace of tranquility, without the slightest hint of anything unusual.

After confirming it was safe, Xiao Jin approached the black coconut tree quietly.

The blade in her hand gleamed coldly in the moonlight. She carefully touched the tree trunk with the tip of the knife, and the soft "thump-thump" sound was particularly clear in the quiet night.

However, after knocking a few times, Xiao Jin cautiously stepped back. After waiting for a while, the situation remained unchanged, so she cautiously tried a few more times.

"Yes," Xiao Jin nodded, finally confirming that it was safe.

Hmm, what's that smell?

As Xiao Jin approached the coconut tree, a sudden, exotic fragrance quietly interrupted her thoughts.

Xiao Jin sniffed carefully.

The fragrance is delicate and subtle, somewhat like mint leaves, with a hint of coolness. It instantly invigorates the senses.

A hint of surprise flashed across Xiao Jin's eyes.

What kind of tree is this? It smells like it's good for people. Is it some kind of good stuff?

But compared to the strange and wonderful taste of coconut trees, doesn't this flavor seem a bit out of place?

Xiao Jin was already hesitant. She even wondered if she should dig up the tree and stuff it into her space.

But Xiao Jin quickly dismissed the idea.

Let alone whether I can fit it in my own space, even if I could, Lu Jing and the others are still there, it's too conspicuous!

Then Xiao Jin slowly approached the coconut tree, his eyes searching among the emerald green leaves.

Finally, after countless glances met, Xiao Jin's gaze settled on an inconspicuous corner—deep within the massive canopy of a tree, where layers upon layers of leaves resembled a curtain of nature, carefully concealing a string of strange fruits.

The fruit was about the size of a fist, with a smooth, jade-like surface and an alluring luster. Under the dim light, it appeared even more translucent.

It hung on the branch, and the fragrance that Xiao Jin smelled actually came from the fruit.

She was certain that it was not a coconut!

With her curiosity fully ignited, Xiao Jin took a deep breath and mobilized the power within her body.

With a gentle spread of her wings, she soared into the sky like an elegant eagle, then gracefully floated beside the strange fruit.

Cen Nian, who was standing nearby, noticed the light and thought that Xiao Jin had encountered some danger, so she quickly stood up.

Cen Nian's sudden action instantly attracted the attention of the other three.

Lu Jing, who was not far away, couldn't help but narrow his deep eyes, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.

A moment later, unable to suppress his inner turmoil, he simply threw down the bread in his hand, stood up, and strode towards Xiao Jin's direction.

“You…” Cen Nian frowned, but then remembered what Xiao Jin had said: this man had a strange temper and told her not to get into a conflict with him.

Cen Nian had no choice but to suppress her words of protest and stand aside to watch from a distance.

Wang Zixuan noticed it too, but after thinking about it for a moment, she decisively gave up on joining in the fun.

"Hey, what did you find over there?" Lu Jing's voice came from below.

Xiao Jin lowered her head slightly, her gaze falling directly on Lu Jing, who was standing under the tree roots. She muttered to herself, "Is this guy like a leech? Why is he everywhere?"

Xiao Jin did not answer directly, but instead turned her head slightly, gesturing for him to look in a certain direction.

Following her gaze, Lu Jing saw several strange fruits emitting a faint glow hidden among the tree roots.

"What is that...?"

"Clearly, a strange bunch of fruit."

"Huh?" Lu Jing's gaze swept over the dark coconut tree, his tone tinged with a hint of mockery: "Are you sure that the fruit growing from this thing is edible?"

Could it be the egg of some unknown creature?

Xiao Jin glared at him, annoyed: "I only said there was fruit, when did I say it was edible?"

Lu Jing felt a surge of warmth in his heart from that glance. For some reason, he felt a thirst in his mouth and a slight unsteadiness in his feet.

Is it because you're too tired?

Lu Jing snapped out of his reverie and quickly offered a bad suggestion with a laugh: "Who cares if it's edible or not? We'll know once we try it!"

He thought Xiao Jin would retort with "malicious intentions," but to his surprise, the other party simply leaped down from mid-air with ease, his feet touching the ground almost silently.

"Then you won't have that chance." Xiao Jin folded her wings, her voice cold: "The fruit isn't ripe yet, you won't get to taste it."

"Not cooked?" Lu Jing frowned slightly upon hearing this.

“It must be a special item,” Xiao Jin explained. “I saw a progress bar.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Jing's eyebrows furrowed even higher.

Seemingly remembering something, Lu Jing's eyes lit up, and he hurriedly asked Xiao Jin, "How much time do we have left?"

“You guessed right.” Xiao Jin gave him a deep look. “All things considered, there are still about five hours left.”

Lu Jing slapped his palm: "That's right. Five hours later, it will be time for our return."

"It seems to be God's arrangement!" Lu Jing stared at the fruit on the tree, his tone quite meaningful.

A moment later, he suddenly looked at Xiao Jin: "Hey! I haven't settled the score with you for that zombie crystal core yet, so don't even think about keeping this fruit all to yourself."

What Lu Jing meant was that he could do without the zombie crystal cores, but Xiao Jin absolutely could not take all the props this time.

It seems he knew that it wasn't realistic for him to take anything from Xiao Jin's pocket, so he backed down.
