Chapter 494 Mourning and Horror

"Speed up and take care of all the NPCs!" Xiao Jin suddenly realized.

She drew the Shadow Dagger from her waist, the dagger transforming into a streak of light as it pierced towards the village chief, only to be blocked by a coffin lid that suddenly appeared.

The wooden coffin lid writhed like a living thing, instantly swallowing the Shadow Assassin whole.

At this moment, the durability of Shadow Assassin on Xiao Jin's panel was rapidly declining, and it would shatter and be destroyed completely in just a few minutes.

Just then, an extremely cold aura suddenly filled the air. The dragon rose from inside the black coffin in an incredible manner and then suddenly landed among the panicked players.

Its silhouette gleamed with a chilling light in the dim light, its eyes like abysses burning with eerie blue flames.

The dragon opened its mouth, revealing sharp fangs, and let out a deafening roar. The sound waves impacted the surroundings as if they were tangible, causing everyone's eardrums to ache and their hearts to almost leap out of their chests.

Yunye and the others reacted quickly, stepping forward immediately and brandishing their weapons in an attempt to stop the dragon's ferocious offensive.

However, the dragon's power was beyond imagination. Each swing of its claws was accompanied by the sound of tearing air and brought up gusts of wind, making it quite difficult for them to resist.

At this critical moment, a player who was distracted was scratched on the arm by the dragon.

In that instant, it seemed as if black mist seeped into his body through the wound.

The player's eyes were instantly filled with terror and despair. The wound on his arm swelled and turned black rapidly, the corpse poison spread quickly, and a putrid stench wafted out.

"Watch out, it's poisonous!" After shouting, the player didn't care about anything else and hurriedly scrambled to escape.

While fleeing, he frantically pulled out an antidote from his backpack and stabbed it into his arm with trembling hands.

Seeing this, the surrounding players became much more cautious, seemingly wary of the corpse poison, and their attempts to attack were repeatedly thwarted.

The old woman, who is Da Long's mother, is still mechanically patting the coffin, and with each pat, a new ghost emerges from her sleeve.

Xiao Jin noticed an overturned earthenware jar lying at her feet—the very one that had contained the two-headed snake earlier. The liquid remaining at the jar's mouth reflected not the scene of the mourning hall, but a deep, dark well.

"Feng Hao, the jar!" Xiao Jin shouted immediately.

Feng Hao, who was closest to the coffin, understood Xiao Jin's meaning with just a glance.

"Alright." The moment a bullet, streaked with sparks, pierced the earthenware jar, the entire mourning hall fell silent.

The floating ghost froze in mid-air, then tore apart as if ripped apart by an invisible hand. The old woman let out a scream that was not human, and her skin quickly dried up and peeled off, revealing dense snake scales underneath.

The village chief finally shut his mouth. The lividity on his neck had spread to his left cheek, and his eyes were filled with venom as he stared at Xiao Jin.

At that moment, all the villagers stopped wailing, but the venomous looks in their eyes made the temperature drop ten degrees. Even Da Long looked bewildered, and then jumped back into the coffin on his own.

After lying down, all the players could see that there was a fist-sized bulge on the corpse's swollen belly. The two-headed snake inside struggled for a while before becoming completely still.

The surrounding players looked at each other in bewilderment, and then the group of NPCs stared at each other blankly.

When the first rooster crow pierced the deathly silence, everyone staggered.

Suddenly, the invisible sense of oppression around them dissipated, and the mourning hall returned to the appearance of an ordinary funeral place, with even the candles turning back to their normal warm yellow color.

Looking up again, the NPC who had died at the player's hands had come back to life. And the villagers who had come along as stepping stones had quietly disappeared without a trace.

Xiao Jin tore off the white cloth strip tied to her arm and saw three blurry figures dressed in funeral clothes drifting towards the door—these were the "guests" who had been sitting in the corner before the vigil began and had never spoken.

The village chief rubbed his hands together as he approached, the lividity on his face completely gone: "Thank you all, the funeral was a great success."

His face crinkled with laughter, but black water was still dripping from his sleeves: "I had my wife cook some mushroom porridge, it's very nourishing... I've been up all night, I'll have some mushroom porridge to warm myself up when I get back."

This disjointed scene is really off-putting to players.

Now that the danger had passed and their side quest was successful, the players were too lazy to engage in any pretense with the village chief.

"No need!" Sui Ying said bluntly. "We're all tired. You should enjoy the mushroom porridge at the village chief's house by yourself!"

………………

The morning fog was so thick it resembled an unyielding wad of cotton.

Xiao Jin counted the number of people coming down the mountain; of the twelve players, only nine remained.

This number of casualties is considered normal.

Actually, apart from the one who died while fighting the vengeful ghost, the other two players who died before the funeral started really died in vain.

First, there's the tattooed guy; he was just incredibly unlucky. He wouldn't have died if he hadn't spilled the talisman water.

As for the female player who suddenly disappeared in the middle, Xiao Jin thought that she probably didn't do her job properly and the village chief saw that she hadn't drunk the talisman water.

The other players, of course, were a cut above the rest.

Since they hadn't been caught red-handed, the village chief naturally wouldn't make things difficult for them.

The group returned in the direction they had come from.

I thought there wouldn't be any more problems this time, but unfortunately the game doesn't follow the usual rules.

As she walked, Xiao Jin suddenly felt that it was very quiet around her. She looked up, and her pupils contracted sharply, because the NPCs who were walking in front of the players had all disappeared.

"Don't look at the ground!" Just then, Feng Hao shouted, "That's not grass...it's hair!"
