Chapter 666 Secret Passage

Xiao Jin's longsword has arrived!

There were no fancy moves, only a chilling killing intent concentrated to its extreme! The blade flashed like a bolt of lightning, slashing down diagonally!

"Sizzle—!"

Like tearing apart an abyss, the giant face pieced together by the black mist was cleaved in two by the blade.

The condensed Yin energy instantly dissipated, and countless black dots, like charred moths, fell down, turning into black ash and disappearing the moment they touched the ground.

Bai Yang, having survived the ordeal, gasped for breath, his eyes filled with gratitude and fear as he looked at Xiao Jin.

"Thank you so much..."

"It appeared so suddenly, I didn't sense its presence at all."

At this point, Bai Yang also felt a wave of fear.

He has the ability to retaliate, but only if he sees danger.

From the moment he entered this place until the paper doll was triggered and eaten, Bai Yang felt nothing at all.

His vision blurred, and then it was as if his soul had left his body. The next second, Bai Yang saw his substitute being swallowed by the black mist.

only……

Looking at the shattered paper figure inside the prop backpack, Bai Yang felt so heartbroken he could hardly breathe.

This was a precious substitute item! It was used up as soon as we entered the dungeon. Ouch, it hurts so much! Waaah~

Immediately afterwards, Bai Yang stood up, patted his bottom, and walked behind Xiao Jin.

Xiao Jin looked at the black ash on the ground, her eyes thoughtful.

"Hmm?" As if sensing something, Xiao Jin looked up at a private room in the corridor.

"Have you been inside for a check-up?"

Upon hearing the question, Bai Yang didn't react at first, but then he immediately shook his head: "No, it appeared before I even had a chance to go in."

He pointed to the wall.

Xiao Jin understood, then drew his long sword and slowly walked towards the end of the corridor.

The corridor was narrow and oppressive, with the musty, earthy smell of decay filling their nostrils.

Xiao Jin and Bai Yang walked cautiously, one in front of the other. A Mo, hidden in Xiao Jin's sleeve, slightly raised her head, sensing the subtle fluctuations in the surrounding stillness.

However, the danger that Bai Yang had anticipated did not materialize.

Before long, the space in front of them suddenly opened up, and faint light leaked through the cracks in the window, illuminating the outline of the room.

Slowly pushing open the door, Xiao Jin paused, her grip on the knife hilt tightening instantly, but then she relaxed her muscles.

To my surprise, there was someone inside.

Moreover, the figure with his back to them, carefully brushing away the thick dust from the old wooden table, was none other than Zhan Wenzhen.

"Mr. Zhan?" Bai Yang was also slightly surprised, his voice particularly clear in the small space.

I was the first one here, and we didn't even go in the same direction after we split up, so why is the other person here now?

Upon hearing the sound, Zhan Wenchen turned around, his gaze behind his gold-rimmed glasses calm and unwavering.

"You've arrived!" His gaze lingered on Xiao Jin for half a second before he said calmly, "During my search, I accidentally discovered a hidden compartment in a side room, where I found a mechanism."

"Then I opened the mechanism and came here through the secret passage." He pointed to a heavy, low cabinet that had been moved in the corner, behind which was a dark entrance.

Xiao Jin's tense nerves relaxed slightly, but her vigilance remained.

It turned out that the noise he had heard was caused by Zhan Wenchen.

The three quickly searched the room, but strangely, apart from a broken table, an empty cabinet, and a few rotten miscellaneous items, there was nothing else there.

The air was heavy, and the clues suddenly went cold.

But soon...

“We’ve been prejudiced,” Xiao Jin said coldly, glancing around at the rough stone walls. “Perhaps this is just the ‘entrance’ to the secret passage, not the exit.”

Zhan Wenchen pushed up his glasses, the lenses flashing slightly: "Just like the room I came in from?"

"Um."

"It seems we'll have to find another way out!"

Without hesitation, the three of them once again entered the cold, dark passage.

This time, Xiao Jin activated all her senses. Her fingertips traced the cool, slippery stone wall, while her feet carefully observed every inch of the uneven ground.

Finally, after rounding a corner almost completely blocked by spider webs, she keenly noticed that the arrangement of several stone bricks under her feet was unusual.

The gaps appear to be too regular, and the wear on the edges is different from other places.

"There's a trap," she whispered, gesturing for the two to back away.

Without drawing her longsword, she flicked her fingers, channeling a hidden force into them, and then precisely struck the joints of several key stone bricks.

"Click...click click..." A dull creak of machinery turned, and the stone wall in front of us silently slid open a crack inward!

An atmosphere far more sinister and decaying than that inside the secret passage rushed towards us!

The three exchanged glances, and those who needed to take out weapons took out weapons, while those who needed to take out props took out props.

Zhan Wenzhen, knowing full well that he was a burden, consciously hid behind Xiao Jin.

The three of them then flashed out.

Light flooded back into Xiao Jin's eyes, revealing a seemingly forgotten, desolate courtyard.

The scene before me was of knee-high withered grass, broken walls and ruins, and a few twisted old locust trees with menacing barks.

At the far end of the courtyard stood a dilapidated house, all alone. The eaves were broken, the doors and windows were crooked, and the dark windows looked like eye sockets with their eyeballs gouged out.

By the dim light of day, one could make out the two faded and peeling characters "ancestral hall" on the dilapidated lintel.

A chill crept silently up the backs of the three.

"Shall we go in?" Bai Yang asked nervously after a moment.

"Of course we'll go in, otherwise we'd be wasting so much time," Zhan Wenzhen replied matter-of-factly.

Whether it's a secret passage or an ancestral hall, since they've found it, there must be a reason for its existence.

Zhan Wenzhen was right.

Xiao Jin noticed that the progress of the main quest fluctuated to some extent from the time he discovered the secret passage to when he arrived at the ancestral hall, increasing by about 5%!

This also proves that they are on the right track.

Xiao Jin took the lead, holding a knife in his right hand and gently pushing the door open with the back of his left hand.

As soon as the door opened, the sweet, cloying scent of incense and candles filled the air. Several pale white candles on the offering table spontaneously combusted without any wind, their eerie green flames leaping.

The numerous, dusty memorial tablets behind the offering table suddenly began to shake!

Indistinct names twisted and emerged on the memorial tablet, uttering countless overlapping, malicious murmurs that crashed into the intruder's mind like a tidal wave!

"Get...out..."

"Those who defile...will die..."

"Flesh and blood...sacrifice..."

Seeing the situation was turning bad, Bai Yang tried to stop Xiao Jin: "Wen Jin, don't go! Be careful!!!"

Xiao Jin snorted coldly, his spirit as firm as a rock, unmoved in the slightest.
