A one-night visit to the hospital.

Given Xia Ning's physique, carrying Jiang Yuan on her own shouldn't be a problem.

However, she didn't show off; instead, she deliberately acted as if she was panting and only supported Jiang Yuan's arm.

Wang Wei supported most of Jiang Yuan's weight. Her back became more and more bent, her shoulders heavier and heavier, and her thighs began to tremble.

A grown man, completely exhausted, lay sprawled on her back, as if carrying a dead pig.

It's too heavy!

After finally getting out of the underground parking garage, Wang Wei put Jiang Yuan down on the flower bed in one breath, panting like an old blower.

She thanked him haltingly, saying, "Xia, thank you."

Xia Ning had just waved her hand and said no need to thank her when she saw Jiang Yuan, who had been jostled around for half a day, turn his head and vomit.

Wang Wei held her breath, patted his back to help him catch his breath, and handed him a bottle of mineral water to rinse his mouth.

When Jiang Yuan vomited for the third time, an ambulance arrived.

Wang Wei wiped Zhang Yuan's mouth, silently cheered herself up, and then asked Xia Ning to help her carry Jiang Yuan into the car.

They didn't call the ambulance, of course, but in a case of mass food poisoning like this, the paramedics couldn't worry about that.

After briefly explaining the situation to the paramedics and discussing the cost of the ride with another patient's family member, Wang Wei successfully got Jiang Yuan to the hospital for eighty yuan.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Wang Wei entrusted Jiang Yuan to Xia Ning for temporary care, while she ran around in the crowded throng, paying fees and buying medicine.

In the chaos, Jiang Yuan lost his phone.

I don't know if I dropped it in the residential area or in the hospital; it's all a jumbled mess when I think back on it.

The hospital was overcrowded. After Jiang Yuan finished his examination, he was temporarily placed in the corridor to receive an IV drip, without even being able to find a chair.

Xia Ning stood guard beside him to prevent anyone wandering around from snagping the IV drip.

While administering the IV drip, the nurse comforted him, saying, "It's a good thing you were able to vomit. After the IV is finished, go home, continue taking your medication, and rest for a few days. It shouldn't be a big problem."

Jiang Yuan had recovered a little by now and weakly mocked himself, "Brother Zhang asked us to lend a hand when he needed something, but his mother was fine, so I got into the ambulance first."

How embarrassing!

The woman in the car next to me said understandingly, "There have been a lot of people suffering from food poisoning these days. Some people even get sick from cooking at home. Where can they go to seek justice? At least we have someone to hold accountable. We can go back and settle accounts with the restaurant."

“Yes,” Jiang Yuan nodded fiercely, “Let’s go settle the score with him!”

He's developed a phobia of fried chicken and probably won't dare to eat it for a long time to come.

Xia Ningxin thought to herself, "It's no wonder you'll have trouble finding anyone when you go back."

Jiang Yuan turned to look at Xia Ning, his eyes filled with tears, and said in a hoarse voice, "Xia, thank you so much for today. Without you, I probably would have died on the street."

Xia Ning waved her hand: "It's not that bad, it's not that bad."

That's an exaggeration, young man.

“Oh, right,” Xia Ning said, “you lost your phone, quickly use my phone to call your own number.”

Jiang Yuan read out a string of numbers.

He watched without hope as Xia Ning pressed the dial button, followed by a cold, electronic voice—

The number you dialed is currently switched off.

Xia Ning and Jiang Yuan exchanged a glance, knowing that it was gone forever.

Xia Ning patted Jiang Yuan on the shoulder: "Please accept my condolences."

Jiang Yuan waved his hand weakly, saying it was nothing, but he had almost died today.

He and the other chicken leg victim next to him, who shared the same plight, sympathized for a short while before he stopped feeling sorry for himself.

Because there are just too many life-and-death separations in hospitals.

During the short time they were receiving IV drips, they saw two mothers kneeling and begging the doctor to treat them, three children foaming at the mouth, and countless desperate cries.

The doctors and nurses looked rushed, their brows furrowed with fatigue, and their eyes behind their masks were bloodshot.

Many patients with minor injuries could not be assigned beds and could only sleep curled up against the wall in the corridor.

During this time, people who had fainted from heatstroke were constantly being brought in on stretchers. Later, when there weren't enough stretchers and wheelchairs, they even had to use cargo carts to transport people.

This is hell on earth.

The hospital environment was too oppressive. After finishing his IV drip, Jiang Yuan stood up shakily without Wang Wei's help and headed home.

He felt that chicken leg PTSD had been successfully replaced by hospital PTSD.

They arrived in an ambulance and left in a shared ride.

The fare for their return trip wasn't as outrageous as 500 yuan, but 80 yuan was still quite a lot.

Xia Ning asked enviously, "Big brother, you must earn a lot after running around all day, right?"

"It's alright, it's alright. It's hard-earned money, after all."

The driver was being modest, but his mouth was agape.

Xia Ning exclaimed, "If only I had persuaded my dad to buy an electric car back then, he could have made back the money by making a few more trips."

The driver glanced at them through the rearview mirror and said, "It's really hard-earned money. They're constantly running to the hospital, either for heatstroke or poisoning. They vomit and have diarrhea in the car, and I have to clean them up every day. Sometimes I even have to be their porter and carry them up and down the stairs."

As he spoke, the driver pointed to a small sign in front of the passenger seat.

“Our team provides free transportation for medical staff every day, and I am responsible for three nurses by myself.”

Xia Ning praised at the right moment, "You volunteers have worked very hard."

"Of course, of course. It's the whole nation fighting the disaster and getting through this together." The driver's lips curled into a smile again.

Jiang Yuan sighed softly, "I won't dare to be reckless anymore. It's best to avoid going to the hospital as much as possible."

Wang Wei echoed this sentiment with a sense of shared experience.

It's not just a matter of occupying limited medical resources; the main problem is the increased psychological burden.

Wang Wei said, "I used to complain that I was too bored staying at home every day and not being able to go out. I was just taking my blessings for granted."

Being able to stay peacefully in the community, receiving relief food and drinking water, is already enough to make life good.

Anyway, we made it to the hospital without any serious incidents, and everyone was somewhat dejected.

Xia Ning and Wang Wei helped Jiang Yuan as they stepped back into the residential area under the rising sun.

The world, which had been bustling all night, returned to tranquility, and people fell asleep in the sunlight.

The first thing Xia Ning did when she got home was to take a shower and change her clothes.

She looked as if she had been rolling around in a garbage dump; she was disheveled and smelled terrible.

Even her sister, who had warmly welcomed her, was driven away by the stench.

Xia Ning tossed the clothes she got from the hospital directly into the entryway; she didn't plan to wear them again.

As she backed away, she sprayed disinfectant alcohol wildly in the path she had walked on.

After Xia Ning came out of the bathroom, drying her hair and sitting on the sofa feeling refreshed, she felt hungry after a long day.

Xia Ning picked and chose in the space and finally picked out a large chicken leg burger.

With her mouth agape, Xia Ning quickly devoured a hamburger, two chicken wings, and a bottle of cola. After wiping her mouth, she let out a satisfied burp, the sound of grilled meat.

That's right, this is called desensitization therapy!
