Day 3
Pulling back the curtains, the not-too-bright sunlight streamed in through the glass, casting a bright yellow hue on the wooden floor.
Xia Ning spent more than ten minutes fully arming herself to ward off the cold.
Opening the wooden door, all that greets the eye is still endless white.
Xia Ning thought that the animals in the snowfield must be hibernating, while players like her were working hard.
The regional chat channel, comprised of ranked players, is now filled with trading information, making it difficult for Xia Ning to find any fun or additional information.
Everyone was very cautious, refraining from speaking unless absolutely necessary, and even if they made a discovery, they wouldn't share it openly.
The value of information cannot be replaced by a few words of flattery.
My older sister, Ji Li, didn't have the energy to chat with her in the evening. She worked overtime and went straight to sleep after finishing.
Fortunately, Xia Ning was used to being alone and didn't feel lonely, especially with a boisterous sled dog by her side.
In the morning, after a simple breakfast and making a potion, Xia Ning suddenly had a brilliant idea: to put a pear on the windowsill and make frozen pears.
This morning I did fine-tuning, further refining the exterior, making a door handle, cleaning up excess foam glue, cutting misaligned parts of the wood panels, and sweeping away sawdust from both inside and outside...
Xia Ning took a few steps back, stood in the front yard, raised her goggles, and appreciated the fruits of her labor more clearly.
Compared to the hunter's cabin where they had stayed for two days, the cabin that Xia Ning built herself was smaller but cleaner and tidier, with lighter-colored wood that blended well with the snow.
The walls and roof were constructed from wooden planks and cut logs, with any gaps between the planks filled with foam adhesive. Waterproof tarpaulin and insulating cotton were sandwiched between the two layers of planks, without compromising the overall wooden aesthetic.
To the lower right of the eaves is a small doghouse.
As Xia Ning's first property, she is willing to give it a high score.
Xia Ning collected the scraps of wood and sawdust that she had cleared out, intending to use them as firewood. She tried cutting down a tree that grew in the snowfield; the wood had a high moisture content and wouldn't burn well unless it had been dried beforehand.
She hadn't seen the sun in the two days since she arrived; the sky was always gloomy and oppressive, and sometimes it would snow or fog up. Where was she supposed to go to dry the wood?
She didn't know how other players solved the problem of keeping warm, and her older sister Ji Li had never complained to her about it.
Sure enough, at this point, the players all had some trump cards up their sleeves.
Next, Xia Ning carried out detailed renovations on the interior of the house.
Xia Ning's space has furniture, but it doesn't quite match the style of the log cabin. It's fine for her to sleep in at night, but it's not reliable to use it to fool the system.
So Xia Ning cut grooves in the load-bearing pillars of the wooden house, fixed long square timbers in place, and then laid wooden planks on top to make a single wooden bed.
Next, she made a tabletop out of wooden planks and fixed it under the windowsill to use as a dining table. This would be her private dining seat from then on.
On another wall, short wooden planks in a zigzag shape were fixed to serve as shelves for displaying plants and decorations.
I cut a few tree branches and fixed them to the side of the door to serve as natural hooks.
Artificial flowers can be placed outdoors, but the indoor temperature is relatively high, so it's better to put some real flowers and green plants in to add life to the cabin.
In the desolate and silent snowfield, Xia Ning's wooden house is the only bright spot for miles around.
Because the foundation was raised and the threshold was several tens of centimeters off the ground, Xia Ning had to build a staircase.
Meanwhile, her younger sister had run off somewhere to catch rabbits again. Xia Ning thought to herself with a touch of narcissism, "It seems that my cooking skills have finally won over my sister."
For lunch, we had a steaming hot pot with chili oil!
Although eating ice cream in a warm indoor environment during winter is a great pleasure.
But it was so cold outside, and Xia Ning felt that her internal organs needed warmth and comfort. The spicy soup could warm her from the inside out, making her mouth, tongue, and stomach feel fiery hot.
Xia Ning ate until she was drenched in sweat, and all she could think of was: "So satisfying!"
However, as a dessert, she ate a frozen pear.
In the afternoon, Xia Ning, whose carpentry skills had gradually improved, built a mini house in the backyard of the cottage.
That's right, the place where the five grains are recycled—the toilet.
Xia Ning called it "the place of tranquility".
In the wild, especially in low-temperature environments, people would inevitably use dry toilets.
When she was scrolling through short videos, she saw that even in modern society, in the city with the lowest temperature in the world, every household still has to use outdoor toilets because the pipes simply cannot withstand temperatures of tens of degrees below zero.
In the wilderness, forget about walking through the sewers.
Xia Ning dug a deep pit beforehand, and then built a mini wooden house on top of the pit.
Xia Ning definitely wouldn't go to the toilet outdoors. In this kind of weather, it's not just that the wind would make her bottom feel cold, it would make her bottom feel freezing.
Her toilets were primarily for burying excrement, to prevent the mentally challenged system from suspecting that she was urinating or defecating indiscriminately.
Sigh, the construction bloggers she watches never show videos of building toilets; they build saunas and storage rooms instead…
Next to the toilet, Xia Ning set up a sauna.
After all, the game calculates stamina based on cleanliness, and who knows if this metric is used when evaluating the cabin?
The sauna had to be built with more care than the toilet. To prevent it from being covered by snow, it was raised, just like the main house.
Saunas shouldn't be built too big; a smaller size allows them to heat up more quickly.
After the external structure was completed, Xia Ning dug a pit underground...
Wait, why does this look like a toilet?
Xia Ning quickly shook her head: "It's different, it's different. That one is for burying excrement, this one is a fire pit."
