The prologue to the apocalypse

Actually, Xia Ning wanted to imitate her father's cigarette-stuffing method, but then she thought that she wasn't a seasoned veteran of the underworld, and she didn't want to end up with a bad imitation. It would be safer to stick to her own way.

Old Zhang had only offered a casual reminder because the young girl seemed kind, but now he felt indebted to her and his tone softened considerably.

Xia Ning seized the opportunity to ask, "The buildings in the neighborhood haven't collapsed, have they?"

"No," Old Zhang said, stroking his sister's dog's head. "The residential buildings in our neighborhood just shook a lot, but the damage wasn't serious. The ones that collapsed were all illegal structures."

Xia Ning said, "It's good that everyone is alright."

"What's so good about it?" Old Zhang, the gatekeeper, glanced around and lowered his voice. "It was such a mess back then. Everyone was rushing downstairs, and there were several stampedes. Seven or eight people were injured, and one person was even trampled to death in Building 6. Just you wait, we're too busy taking care of ourselves today. When the family members come back from the hospital tomorrow, there'll be a real mess."

Well, how should I put it?

Every year, our community organizes disaster drills, but nobody participates; everyone's too busy. Who would have thought that a once-in-a-century earthquake would happen to them?

"I'm not saying anything more, I still have to go and check on the people." Old Zhang waved his hand.

"Then you're busy, thank you for your hard work."

After Xia Ning finished speaking, she turned around and went back to the tent.

From today onward, she has to get used to bad news.

Xia Ning, unable to sleep due to the noise outside, only managed a short nap of one or two hours in the latter half of the night before being woken up by screams.

Xia Ning glanced at her watch, her eyes bloodshot; it was a little past 5 a.m.

Alright, get up.

A short while later, Xia Ning sat by the tent with a cup of hot coffee in her hand, looking out through the half-open curtain.

Two families had money stolen, and it looks like a lot of money. They are now demanding that people in the neighborhood be searched.

During an earthquake, people's first reaction is to carry important items. For most people, money is the most important thing besides life, and some even value money more than life.

"I can't find it," Xia Ning murmured.

The person who lost the money was frantic, but who would willingly be searched for no reason? Besides, people's emotions are already running high, and they could easily flare up at any moment.

The person who lost their belongings said, "If you don't let me look for it, you're a thief." The people around them retorted, "Why are you accusing me?" The argument escalated, and the real thief disappeared without a trace.

At this point, the police were all busy with rescue efforts, and the park manager said he would check the surveillance footage, but most of the time he returned empty-handed.

Xia Ning, who had initially wanted to enjoy the excitement, had lost interest.

She felt that the prelude to the apocalypse was not a natural disaster, but rather the collapse of order.
