"Aaaaaah!!"
Three female screams rang out almost simultaneously. Su Lin reacted almost instantly, stepping back without even raising his head.
"Whoosh!"
With his right hand, he blindly slashed backward with his Tang sword, striking something the instant Su Lin retreated. However, he didn't feel any cutting through the object; it seemed as if he had passed through a thin membrane.
"Bang! Crack!"
A tremendous force followed, slamming into Su Lin's shoulder and causing him to let out a muffled groan.
My arm is broken!
Su Lin felt a sharp pain in her left shoulder, and Xiao Linlin almost fell out of her arms, but luckily she had already held Su Lin's neck tightly.
In the blink of an eye, Su Lin reacted with incredible speed, flashing out of the room before the second attack arrived and turning back to face the enemy.
A tattered, blood-stained rag doll stood where he had been standing. It stared with dark, glassy eyes and a sinister smile, holding a wooden rattle in its hand.
"Found it...I found it!"
The doll's mouth opened and closed, emitting a strange, shrill sound that sent shivers down your spine and instilled fear in you.
"Spirits? Ghosts?"
Su Lin squinted, enduring the excruciating pain, and tried to raise his left arm slightly to feel the injury, but failed and could not lift it.
The bone in my left shoulder was completely shattered. All the healing potions were in my backpack, and there were enemies in front of me, so I had no time to heal myself.
This was definitely a physical attack, not some kind of mental or soul damage, so his own clone shadow did not suffer any harm.
Strangely, the defensive runes on his body were still active, and the defensive runes that could withstand bullet-level attacks were not working.
"Its damage level is higher, capable of breaking through the defensive effect of a Vajra Talisman worth 80,000!"
Su Lin instantly assessed the battle situation, but he couldn't understand why, despite being attacked by ghosts, his prepared countermeasures had failed and he was still injured.
Could this be... the "unexpected event beyond my control" that Xu Zhiyi was referring to?
What she predicted back then wasn't a method for dealing with supernatural monsters, but rather what's happening now?
Su Lin didn't have time to think too much. The moment he saw the ghost doll, he immediately turned and retreated.
He didn't even bother to notify the remaining three. This wasn't the time to be merciful; leaving others alive might give him more room to maneuver in the fight.
The fat man was stunned and stood there dumbfounded. He was usually clever but timid, and he didn't run away immediately because Su Lin was there.
This delay put him in the first defensive position, leaving him alone to face the ghost doll!
The moment the ghost doll suddenly looked up and met his gaze, the fat man snapped to reality and screamed in agony, "Aaaaaah!"
"Run! Run!!"
Without saying a word, he scrambled out of the room.
But the ghost doll was even faster, catching up with Song Daqiang in the blink of an eye.
"It's over!"
Song Daqiang was immediately filled with despair; how could his chubby little legs possibly outrun such a bizarre monster?
Just as Song Daqiang was despairing and waiting for death, he saw the ghost doll brush past him, pass straight between the three of them, and then, with a flash of ghostly shadow, catch up with Su Lin, who had disappeared into the depths of the corridor.
The three-person team was stunned. Song Daqiang touched his fat face in disbelief: "I...I was ignored by the ghost? Do I have a new talent?"
Li Tiantian reacted the fastest, almost screaming as she shouted into the depths of the corridor, "Su Lin, it's chasing you! It's got its eye on you!!"
Upon hearing the warning and feeling the approaching chill from behind, Su Lin knew the situation was dire and decisively turned around, swinging his Tang sword.
"Whoosh!"
The Tang sword swiftly pierced the corner of the corridor, striking with unparalleled precision the ghost doll that had just caught up with them.
But it caused no harm!
Su Lin watched helplessly as the Tang sword pierced through the ghost doll's body. The doll's body shimmered with a layer of watery light for a moment, and the Tang sword went straight to the back and pierced into the wall.
The physical attack of the Tang sword is like slashing at a puddle of water; even if it can cut through the surface, it cannot cause any real damage to the "water".
Even though Su Lin raised his hand to recall the Tang sword and made two slashes in a short period of time, the ghost doll still did not react and its body remained intact.
"The needle got stuck in my eyeball, and Mom said I should go to sleep..."
"But the ceiling is bleeding, and she says it's just jam..."
It held up its rattle drum and sang eerie nursery rhymes as it approached Su Lin.
"Put me down...put me down..."
Xiao Linlin's eyes widened as she looked behind her in terror. Despite her fear, she still whispered to Su Lin, "It's chasing me, not you! Just put me down!"
Xiao Linlin's voice trembled, but her thinking ability remained, and she saw through the ghost doll's intentions.
"impossible!"
Su Lin resolutely refused; he would rather die himself than let Xiao Linlin get hurt.
At worst, a survivor who fails will suffer asset loss, but the death of a follower is irreversible.
Xiao Linlin has already demonstrated her abilities and value. Even from a purely profit-driven perspective, she is far more valuable than half of Su Lin's warehouse!
"It's targeting me... my big brother! I can sense it wants my abilities!"
Xiao Linlin urged urgently, "If you don't stop me, it will keep chasing us!"
Xiao Linlin's ability to sense things was extraordinary, and although it was extremely useful, it also attracted the greed of these ghostly things.
Su Lin didn't answer. He just ran down the corridor while biting the Tang sword in his mouth and rummaging through his backpack with his free hand.
"Whoosh!"
