"Is he smarter than me?"
Song Daqiang was taken aback. He turned around and looked at Anna.
The woman was still chatting and laughing with Xiao Song, occasionally covering her mouth and giggling as he teased her, her ample bosom trembling, an ambiguous atmosphere enveloping the two.
"You slut, I knew she'd tell everyone!"
Song Daqiang's face darkened. He didn't believe this silly woman was very smart; she might just ruin things and drag him and Su Lin down with her.
Su Lin did not answer. He had already perked up and seemed to have discovered something. He was pacing back and forth in front of a shop, concentrating intently.
Most of the shops in the underground mall have been closed, with only a few open. The items inside have been cleared out, leaving a place for the survivors to stay.
Sudden.
Several men walked over and blocked Su Lin's way: "Hey buddy, what are you running around for?"
One of the men frowned at Su Lin and reached out to push him: "Stay put and don't run around or make noise, or you'll attract the zombies outside!"
Su Lin gently dodged the push, not annoyed at all. She just smiled and pointed to the closed shop next to her: "What's in there? I heard some noise."
"What, are you raising chickens and ducks here? Do you even do underground farming here?"
Su Lin joked casually, but the men didn't respond. They impatiently scolded, "What nonsense about chickens and ducks? Get out of here. Instead of wasting your time, go discuss with your men how to get past the zombies behind you."
The men blocked the shop and drove Su Lin away.
Su Lin touched his nose, smiled, and turned to leave. The fat man turned back and glared at the men, muttering, "A few NPCs are so arrogant, they really don't know what's good for them."
"Didn't you just say they might all be normal humans? How come you think they're NPCs now?"
"Whether they're human or NPCs, they can't treat my boss like this!"
Song Daqiang spoke up for Su Lin: "Anyone with eyes can tell there's something fishy going on in that shop; there's definitely something good hidden there!"
"Boss, once the mission is complete, let's break down the door and go in to see what's going on. We won't give these NPCs a friendly look."
"Um."
Su Lin nodded noncommittally: "Let's take care of business first."
He didn't tell Song Daqiang that he had smelled a strong stench of blood while standing outside the shop.
That wasn't the stench of zombies, it was the smell of human blood, and it was very fresh.
As Su Lin walked towards Xiao Song, she asked Song Daqiang, "By the way, how did the bread you ate earlier taste?"
"Huh? Boss, why are you suddenly saying this? Do you think that Xiao Song poisoned our food?!"
Song Daqiang was startled, but Su Lin smiled and said, "Anyway, I didn't eat any."
Upon hearing this, Song Daqiang immediately sensed something was wrong, and a chill ran down his spine.
Fortunately, it seems that poisoning did not occur; at least he and Su Lin did not die from poisoning when they walked up to Xiao Song.
Xiao Song's attitude softened considerably. He stood up and looked at Su Lin: "Dude, have you rested enough?"
"That's about it."
Su Lin nodded enthusiastically: "What's next with the mission? Are we just going to wait here?"
"No need for that. I just need to peek out and the zombies will appear, just like monsters spawning in an online game."
Xiao Song looked at the mall exit with a helpless expression: "I thought this task would be easy, but it turned out to be a dead end, a complete trap."
"If you hadn't come, I would have been trapped here to die."
"Hey bro, I heard from your teammates that you seem pretty good at it?"
After Xiao Song finished speaking, Su Lin glanced at Anna and nodded with a smile: "It's alright. If there aren't too many zombies, I can handle it."
"You have a knife, and that knife is very powerful?"
Xiao Song asked again, and Su Lin frowned.
Xiao Song smiled and said, "This girl told me this, so don't blame her. Let's be honest and cooperate sincerely."
Anna lowered her head, looking timid and as if she had made a mistake.
"Look, my crossbow is alright, but it's probably not as powerful as your knife. I can't take down too many zombies at once."
Xiao Song generously raised his crossbow, speaking very modestly.
"I can handle about a dozen zombies. If there are more, I'll have to work with my teammates."
Su Lin looked at the fat man, hesitated for a moment, and then made a request: "I just discussed it with my teammates. We can help you with the mission, but the zombie boxes we kill should be ours. You can't expect us to work for free, can you?"
"No problem at all!"
Xiao Song agreed readily, and even seemed relieved.
If Su Lin hadn't made any requests, he would have felt uneasy. But Su Lin's current behavior was perfectly normal, exactly as Xiao Song had expected.
"You can keep all the kills you have. I just hope the mission can be completed, albeit barely."
Xiao Song paused for a moment, then suddenly laughed and said, "But in that case, I can't help you. I only have a few crossbows left, and I need to keep them for self-defense."
"No problem, leave everything to me, you can just watch the show from the back."
Su Lin nodded in agreement. After the two parties reached a preliminary agreement, Xiao Song started walking towards the entrance of the mall: "Alright then, let's get started as soon as possible, lest something goes wrong."
The NPCs watched the four of them walk to the entrance of the mall. Xiao Song looked at Su Lin and Song Daqiang and said, "Don't be too surprised later. The way those weirdos appear is really strange."
"What kind of situation haven't I seen?"
Song Daqiang didn't sound cowardly at all, but he always lagged half a step behind Su Lin, not daring to stand alone at the front.
