Chapter 5 Hide and Seek
◎Game Start◎
When Gu Nian opened his eyes, he couldn't help but burp.
As the dream collapsed, the black fog had already descended. Even with the black rope protecting her, Gu Nian felt utterly miserable. She suspected that if she had come out any later, she would have been choked to death.
But luckily I made it out alive!
Thinking of this, Gu Nian suddenly realized that she had completely taken what happened in the dream as reality. This was a torture for a psychiatrist.
Come to think of it, she finally forgot to ask which house the main personality lived in. She always felt that the child might have some psychological problems. Although the secondary personality had disappeared, it was possible that there would be psychological trauma left.
Judging from previous experience, the black whirlpools that appear in her dreams are usually relatively close, usually within the range covered by the white light, which is about ten meters. It should be around the third or fourth floor nearby. She still has to go and see it if she has the chance.
But before that, she must first wait until dawn to undergo a mental evaluation. If she turns out to be the real mental patient, things would be funny.
Hmm? Wait till dawn?
Gu Nian looked outside with some confusion. The last few times she fell asleep, she almost overslept. This time, she stayed in the dream for so long, but it was still dark outside?
Gu Nian picked up the phone and frowned as the screen lit up. The screen showed that it was already 12 noon.
It should have been dawn by now.
Just as I was about to go to the window to take a look, I suddenly heard a noise outside, accompanied by sharp and high-pitched screams, as if something bad had happened.
Gu Nian stood up and left the bedroom, but just as she was about to leave, she suddenly stopped and looked out through the peephole. There was chaos outside, and the neighbors were arguing and shouting, their voices filled with fear.
It seemed like a murder had occurred. Gu Nian opened the door and walked out, just in time to run into a neighbor stumbling out of the crowd, covering his mouth as if he wanted to vomit.
The air was filled with a strong smell of blood.
This was a murder scene, a brutal one. The victim had been cut into countless pieces, with pieces of flesh scattered all over the floor. Only the head lay upright in the middle, a strange smile on its face.
Gu Nian avoided the bloodstains under his feet and took out his cell phone to call the police.
A voice came from the side. A middle-aged man kept muttering, "It's useless. I've tried countless times. There's no signal. The phone doesn't work. The sun doesn't rise anymore. We're abandoned. This must be God's punishment. It must be God's punishment!"
Gu Nian frowned and looked carefully, and found that there was indeed no signal on the phone.
She looked at the middle-aged man and asked, "You said the sun will never rise again?"
The middle-aged man stared at Gu Nian. "Don't you see? It's getting dark! It's getting dark! The sun has disappeared! God has abandoned us!"
He roared loudly and pulled his hair hard with both hands.
The neighbors all moved away. A kind-hearted woman pulled Gu Nian aside and said, "This guy believes in terrorism. Don't listen to his nonsense. He's always talking nonsense." But then she glanced towards the end of the corridor with a worried look on her face. "It's already twelve o'clock, why is it still dark?"
Gu Nian didn't respond because she didn't know either.
She was feeling a little complicated now. The good news was that the darkness was not her hallucination and she should be normal. The bad news was that the world seemed to have become abnormal.
Because of the abnormality outside, although everyone was afraid of the dismemberment scene in the corridor, they still gathered together, as if this could give themselves courage.
Gu Nian glanced at the dismembered body not far away, her brow furrowed slightly. Was it her imagination? Why did she see the mouth of the head in the middle move?
Soon Gu Nian knew that she was not mistaken, because the head began to speak, and the voice became louder and louder. The whole corridor was filled with its voice.
"Bad boy, you're disobedient and don't go home at dinner time."
"Mom is looking for you."
"Hide and seek, hide and seek, look who is hiding well,"
"Be careful of showing your tail."
"Hehe, I found it. Let's eat!"
The head on the ground belonged to an adult male, but at this moment he had a strange smile on his face, and he was chanting a strange ballad with a gentle expression.
As the last words fell, the scattered corpses on the ground suddenly moved, surrounding the head in the middle. The left hand connected with the right leg, and the right hand climbed onto the back. The scattered pieces of flesh squeezed into a ball to form a torso. Soon, a bloody monster appeared before everyone's eyes.
The monster kept reciting the ballad with a smile on its face, and began to move towards the crowd, dragging its intestines exposed.
"Fuck, it's a ghost!"
"Run! Go back!"
"Oh my god, what the hell is this!"
The neighbors were terrified by the scene and immediately ran towards their homes. For a moment, the entire corridor was in chaos.
Gu Nian didn't know who pulled him and subconsciously looked back.
The only person left was the man who had been mumbling incoherently. He was now kneeling on the ground, hands clasped together, and kowtowed to the monster. The monster opened its mouth.
Gu Nian quickly turned around, ran back home, and locked the door. Then, feeling unsafe, she moved the living room sofa over to block the door. She went to the kitchen and grabbed a kitchen knife before returning to the door and peering through the peephole.
Because of the perspective, Gu Nian could not see the monster and the middle-aged man, he could only hear the teeth-grinding chewing sound. After a while, a pool of blood spread on the ground.
The monster is eating people.
Gu Nian clenched the kitchen knife in her hand. It had been a dream before, and she had always felt it was unreal. But now, in reality, witnessing such a thing with her own eyes, she couldn't calm down for a moment.
The chewing sound lasted for a long time and finally stopped, followed by a burst of footsteps. After a while, it was completely quiet.
The corridor was empty and no one dared to come out to check.
After waiting for a while, there was still no movement. Gu Nian put the kitchen knife aside and sat on the sofa. She needed to think carefully about what to do next.
It was impossible to stay at home all the time. Since there was a supermarket nearby, she would only buy enough food for one or two days, and she couldn't last long on food alone.
It's pitch black outside, man-eating monsters are roaming the corridors, and there's no cell phone signal. If you want to be rescued, you have to find a way to leave, not just sit there and wait for death.
However, it was not time to leave yet, so Gu Nian stood up and looked out through the peephole again, then lay sideways on the door panel to listen.
It was very quiet, and the monster seemed to have really gone away.
Gu Nian went to find something to eat, then returned to the sofa, eating while she pondered. She lived on a high floor, so the only way out was by stairs. And there was no guarantee the monsters blocking the way wouldn't return. So, it would be best to find a pattern in their appearances and avoid them.
Gu Nian recalled the song the monster had recited. It contained several key messages: child, going home, mother, playing hide-and-seek, and dinner.
Perhaps, think of this as a game of hide and seek.
If this is the case, then these "bad kids" did not go home at dinner time and played hide-and-seek with their "mom". When they were found by their "mom", it was time for dinner.
So, people’s meal times are morning, noon and evening, but when do monsters eat?
Gu Nian glanced at her phone again. It was almost one in the afternoon. She had checked the time when she ran back earlier. Over forty minutes had passed since the monster appeared.
All she had to do next was wait.
Wait until the next time the monster appears, if it will come back.
Time passed minute by minute, and Gu Nian glanced at his phone from time to time. When the clock on the screen ticked to 1:10, the song sounded again outside.
Monster, eats once every hour.
