55. Xixi's Complete Tonic Plan
The first rays of morning light slanted into the bedroom, covering the entire bed.
When Pei Yiyan woke up, the swelling at the incision site had completely subsided. The only discomfort was that his body felt sticky. He had been sweating profusely from the pain the day before and had fallen into a deep sleep, so he hadn't had time to take care of himself.
He moved his fingertips, slowly sat up, lifted the covers and got out of bed, his lower body feeling sore and weak as if he had run a marathon.
"Dad, come and eat! Mom made seafood porridge!"
As soon as I stepped out of the bedroom, I saw a happy scene in the living room. Xi Xi and Meng Zhi were sitting at the dining table, the little girl slurping seafood porridge and leisurely swinging her little feet.
Meng Zhi shook her head and said, "You're still weak from just waking up, so I bought you some light white porridge and side dishes. They're still warm. Come and drink them."
Pei Yiyan awkwardly turned his head away and rubbed his neck: "You guys eat first, I'll go wash up first."
In the brightly lit restroom, the man in the mirror stroked the stubble on his chin, his brow furrowed.
"It grew so much overnight, ouch, it's really prickly."
The razor vibrates and buzzes.
Pei Yiyan's mind flashed back to everything before he fainted. He glanced down at his toes gripping the ground and remained silent.
He bit his lip until it bled, and it hurt whenever it got wet.
He finished washing up with a grimacing expression, hesitated for a while before going outside, and then froze.
The living room, which had been somewhat empty just moments before, was now filled with little radish heads, some with horns on their heads, flowers on their ears, and wings on their backs—all strangely shaped, none of them normal.
For a moment, he genuinely doubted whether he was fully awake.
Otherwise, how do you explain his house suddenly turning into a daycare center?
Pei Yiyan:
He shook his head vigorously. Had his potted plant somehow become a spirit? And how come it even had wings?
My brain, which I just turned on, is about to crash again.
"Grandpa Tree Spirit!" A little mushroom wearing a red bib floated towards us.
The little mushroom spirit looked to be a little over a year old, but was much smaller and thinner than Xixi.
Pei Yiyan was afraid she would fall halfway, so he subconsciously opened his arms to support the child, who felt as light as a piece of cotton in his arms.
"Grandpa Tree Spirit, it's me, Little Mushroom. Are you eating?"
Pei Yiyan's gaze shifted. This was the child with horns on his head. Oh, so they weren't horns, they were mushrooms.
“Hello, little mushroom,” he replied in a measured tone. “I’m going to eat now.”
The little mushroom shook its head, and a bunch of colorful mushrooms fell down with a clatter. It scooped up a small mountain of mushrooms in its hands.
"Grandpa Tree Spirit, please have some."
Pei Yiyan's eye twitched. This wasn't quite right. "Eat it raw?"
"Yes, it was just born today, it's very sweet, please have some."
Pei Yiyan was unsure whether to accept the offer or not, so he forced a kind and polite smile:
"You must be Xixi's good friend. You don't need to bring gifts when you come to visit your uncle's house. Just eat and have fun."
The little mushroom blinked its big, green eyes and tilted its head in confusion.
"Daddy, that's the medicine Sister Mushroom gave you. You have to be a good adult and take your medicine on time, okay?" Xixi walked over with her hands behind her back and raised her chin. "Don't just stand there, catch it quickly."
Pei Yiyan politely accepted all the mushrooms, thanked them, and then turned to ask with a smile, "Is your mushroom sister a Boletus luridus?"
"hold head high"
"You see that Boletus luridus is poisonous? Don't tell me you're trying to cure my illness with poison instead of poison?"
Xi Xi: "So what?"
"What's wrong with that? That's a big problem. He can grit his teeth and get through an old ailment flare-up. He's tough and thick-skinned and used to it all these years. But a sudden attack of a 'blue hand' might just kill him."
Fearing a misunderstanding about betraying a family member, Meng Zhiyao quickly said, "Don't misunderstand, not all Boletus luridus are poisonous. Small mushrooms can produce non-poisonous Boletus luridus, so there's no need to worry about the mushrooms being poisonous."
"Little mushrooms are not poisonous, not poisonous!" The child with black wings on his back suddenly flew up, floating happily in mid-air, shouting, "Grandpa Tree Spirit, eat quickly, eat quickly!"
Pei Yiyan was taken aback.
Meng Zhiyao introduced, "That's Little Swallow Spirit, also Xixi's good friend from Baicao Mountain. She's back to stay with Xixi for a while."
"Those too?"
Meng Zhi shook her head and chuckled dryly: "That's right, you guessed quite accurately."
With seven or eight children suddenly appearing in the family, she knew Pei Yiyan would definitely not be able to handle it, so she immediately said, "When we return to Beijing, I will take care of them with you."
Pei Yiyan's heart skipped a beat: "They're going to the capital with us?"
Xi Xi and Little Mushroom put their arms around each other's shoulders, looking like best buddies, and said in a carefree manner:
"Of course, they are all my good friends and the best herb spirits."
Pei Yiyan hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped.
He wasn't an overbearing and unreasonable parent. Xi Xi's identity was special, so he didn't dare bring human children to his house to play, for fear of accidentally revealing the little monster's identity.
These monster friends who grew up with her in the mountains have come from afar, so it is only right that he treats them well.
He just didn't expect so many to come all at once. With his house full of children, even the spacious 120-square-meter apartment was clearly not enough. Wouldn't his one-bedroom apartment in Beijing be so cramped that there wouldn't even be enough room to step out?
His current plan is to develop his business in Beijing long-term. However, land in Beijing is extremely valuable, and with the money he currently has, he cannot afford a large villa where they can have fun to their heart's content.
Pei Yiyan was very worried. What should he do when he arrived in the capital?
Meng Zhiyao was unaware that he had already thought about buying a villa. She assumed he found it troublesome and noisy, so she quickly got up and went over.
"Can I come to the bedroom with you? I have something to tell you."
"Um."
Once in the bedroom, Meng Zhiyao frankly explained the cause of his illness and the treatment plan.
"The thousand-year-old ginseng spirit is adept at concealing its whereabouts, making it difficult to find. They are still at a loss."
“Xixi is really worried about you and can’t bear to see you suffer for three lifetimes in a row. So she discussed with all the herb spirits in the mountains who can cure diseases, and agreed to offer fruits and leaves every month to my sister Xiaohua to make into medicine. You can try it first and see the effect. This is the best way at the moment.”
Xi Xi's thinking was simple: three cobblers might not be as good as one Zhuge Liang, but hundreds or thousands would be a different story. Who knows, she might just stumble upon a Ziwei star by chance.
We must believe that the power of the masses should never be underestimated.
All the herb spirits have cultivated for hundreds of years by absorbing the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. The flowers, fruits and leaves they produce are rare spiritual treasures. While they are more than ten levels below the thousand-year-old ginseng spirit, they are also hundreds of times better than ordinary medicinal herbs.
Xi Xi firmly believes that the Ten-Ingredient Tonic Pill can improve her father's health and achieve the amazing effect of nourishing his soul.
The unexpected result plunged Pei Yiyan into a long silence.
Meng Zhi observed his micro-expressions discreetly, trying to guess what he was thinking at that moment.
However, his facial paralysis technique was so masterful that even after she tried her best to look him up and down, she still couldn't figure it out.
Meng Zhi called out uneasily, "Ayan."
She was met with a helpless sigh.
“Xixi is right, I am a poor dad.”
"I need to hurry up and make money."
Pei Yiyan's brows showed a rare hint of worry.
Meng Zhi stammered: Huh? ??
Pei Yiyan glanced at her: "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing."
I thought you would find it troublesome.
Pei Yiyan's expression was strange, and he said indifferently, "They are all my life-saving medicines. At most, they taste a little bitter, but they are not troublesome."
Since he can live, who would want to die? The little girl has put so much effort into his health, it would be ungrateful for him to have any more of those messy and pretentious emotions.
Ugh, just thinking about seven or eight hungry mouths gives him a headache.
The man pressed his long, slender, fair fingers against his temples.
Meng Zhiyao roughly understood his thoughts, and she smiled:
“You are Xixi’s father, so your business is Xixi’s business, and naturally it is also my business. I will not stand idly by. I still have some money on hand, and I will transfer it to you now.”
“This money is what I earned from working as a piano tutor, not what my family gave me.” She interrupted the other person’s impending refusal. “Housing prices in Beijing are much higher than in the county. I can’t help you much, but this is just a small token of my appreciation. Please accept it.”
Pei Yiyan stopped wasting time and said, "Thanks, the house will be registered under Xixi's name alone."
A four-year-old can earn tens of thousands of yuan a month just by lying around. This is only the dividends from the shares given by Zhou Yi. Not to mention that she also has a pair of ambitious parents who contribute to her wealth and luxury.
Even Pei Yiyan couldn't help but laugh out loud for the little girl, even after just a moment of empathy.
There were many herbal spirits in the house. After breakfast, Pei Yiyan sat up straight and called the little herbal spirits to his side so that they could introduce themselves one by one.
"I am Strychnos nux-vomica, four hundred years old this year, and I can recite poetry! I walk into a room, with walls on all four sides, and when I look up, I see mice, and when I look down, I see cockroaches."
"I am Angelica sinensis. My parents say that we Angelica sinensis are humankind's treasures. Grandpa Tree Spirit, I want to be your little darling >3<"
"I am Lanlan, and humans like to call me Banlangen."
"Grandpa Tree Spirit, Little Lingzhi also wants to be your little darling!"
"It's my turn! It's my turn! I'm Motherwort!"
Pei Yiyan's handsome face twisted slightly.
Forget about the rest, isn't motherwort supposed to invigorate blood circulation and regulate menstruation? This is just ridiculously overused to be included.
He rubbed his forehead and looked at the winged boy on his back: "And you, you're not a herbalist, right?"
The boy flapped his wings, proudly raised his neck, and said each word clearly: "Golden Swallow."
Pei Yiyan was deeply moved: "Xixi, you are so good to your father. You know that your father has never drunk swallow soup, so you found such a big baby swallow to make soup for your father to nourish his body."
Swiftlet: "!! Chirp chirp chirp??"
Xi Xi said anxiously, "Dad, don't talk nonsense. You can't make soup with Jin! Jin's mother only has him as her baby. He's the only son in three generations of his family."
Hete
Pei Yiyan felt a chill on his face, stiffly touched it with his fingers, and looked down to see his hand covered in wet, glistening saliva.
Pei Yiyan was speechless for a long time.
The air seemed to stagnate slightly.
Little Gold happily spread its wings and flew around the ceiling: "Quack quack quack quack!"
Xi Xi picked up the small bowl at some point and happily tapped the rim of it: "Dad, this is bird's nest that Xiao Jin gave you. It's very nourishing. Quickly catch it in the bowl, don't waste it."
Meng Zhi glanced cautiously at Pei Yiyan's dark face, tugged at his sleeve, and whispered:
"The child meant well."
"Hmm, it's said that the bird-tribe demons are all rather arrogant and straightforward, but they don't actually have any bad intentions."
Pei Yiyan silently wiped his face clean, then generously looked up and smiled: "I understand. Perhaps I'm just ignorant; I've never seen such exquisite bird's nest in my life."
