Chapter 39 The School Heartthrob Dad Humbly Coaxes His Child
Since he took the initiative to make amends, and Xi Xi ignored him, Pei Yiyan struggled inwardly for a minute before shamelessly moving closer.
He asked in a humble voice, "What do you want in return for your forgiveness, Dad?"
Little girl: "Hmph."
Pei Yiyan: "There's no such thing as a father and daughter holding a grudge overnight. You can't keep giving your dad the cold shoulder."
I don't know which sentence touched Xixi, but she turned her little head slowly, crossed her arms, and stared at him for a moment.
Taking the initiative: "Do you know where you went wrong?"
I shouldn't have spanked you.
"wrong."
"You're not allowed to keep a cat?"
"It's still not right."
Pei Yiyan wiped his face and probed again: "Shouldn't I have been rude to you?"
Xi Xi shook her head, her little face filled with disappointment: "It seems you haven't realized your mistake."
Pei Yiyan scratched his head: "Then tell me, where did I go wrong? I'll apologize to you."
Xi Xi remained unmoved, letting out a snort through her nose, her little eyes haughty: "Is this your attitude of apologizing? It's not sincere at all, I don't see any sincerity in you."
“”
He used to worry that this little girl was too naive and easy to fool, and wouldn't be able to protect herself, but now it seems his worries were completely unnecessary.
He picked up his phone and waved it: "How about I transfer you money? Your allowance will be doubled starting today, isn't that sincere enough?"
To everyone's surprise, Xixi got even angrier and retorted like a little bull: "Don't even think about bribing me with money. I'm not that kind of vain little baby. You're trying to humiliate an honest, kind, and sincere little monster with money. I won't accept your bribe!"
This won't work, that won't work, Pei Yiyan was driven to the brink of despair by his daughter, and to make matters worse, she had so many reasons. At this moment, he felt utterly hopeless.
"Grandma, Dad, please accept it, okay?"
A ginseng root suddenly stood up, and Xi Xi's eyes sparkled: "Say it again."
"What?"
She grinned and said, "Grandma."
Pei Yiyan's eyes twitched, and he took a deep breath, revealing a smile that was more like a grimace: "Stop calling me 'Grandma Xixi,' I'll just call you Grandma Xixi. Grandma Xixi, please give your instructions."
Xi Xi: !
Ah yes, yes, that's what we'll call her.
hey-hey.
"Fine, then I'll mercifully tell you." After saying that, Xi Xi glared at him, still not satisfied, as if she had returned to the scene. Her little voice was low and sweet, "You hit me, my bottom hurts so much."
Pei Yiyan couldn't sit still any longer: "Does it still hurt?"
"Mmm." The little girl bit her lip pitifully and touched her chest. "It hurts here too."
Pei Yiyan immediately stood up: "Let's go to the hospital to get it checked out."
He did use some force to spank her bottom. Before he did it, he had calculated in his mind how much force to use so as not to hurt Xixi but to make her feel pain and learn her lesson.
But since it was his first time, he was worried that he might not have controlled his strength well and hurt the child. Now, looking back, he felt extremely regretful for his impulsiveness.
Xi Xi tucked her hands behind her back: "Don't go. Xi Xi is a ginseng baby and won't get sick, but she will be sad and upset. When she's sad, her heart will ache."
Pei Yiyan fell silent. He appeared calm on the surface, but his heart was filled with guilt. His tone was softer and lower than usual.
“Dad was wrong this time. No matter what, I shouldn’t have hit you. Dad apologizes.”
Xi Xi sat cross-legged, as steady as a mountain, but her response was a sentence that he would remember for the next ten years.
She said sullenly, "What makes Xixi most sad is that her father doesn't trust her."
"Because you think Xixi can't take good care of the kitten, you don't want Xixi to keep it, right?"
Pei Yiyan was stunned. That was indeed what he was thinking, but he had never said it. Could it be that he had inadvertently revealed his thoughts?
He was surprised by Xixi's quick wit; the usually silly little girl was actually so meticulous.
"Yes, you're right." Pei Yiyan rubbed his nose guiltily, unconsciously avoiding Xixi's gaze.
She's such a lazy kid, he simply didn't believe she could take good care of the kitten. Of course, he had his own selfish reasons, namely that he didn't like cats.
If he absolutely had to have a pet, he would choose a dog without hesitation.
"Hmph, I knew it." Xi Xi turned her head away angrily.
Normally, Pei Yiyan would have argued with her to the bitter end, but in this situation, he chose to play the submissive role.
There's no way around it, the little girl's in a fit of rage right now. If I don't appease her and coax her, what if she gets so angry that she hits me with a ginseng root? Will she struggle or resist?
A smart father won't put himself in a dilemma.
"Grandma Xixi, don't be angry." Pei Yiyan pressed his fist to his lips and solemnly promised, "If a similar situation happens again, I will absolutely believe you."
Xi Xi didn't reply immediately; her eyes darted back and forth between her father, clearly harboring a mischievous plan.
Pei Yiyan pretended not to notice and waited quietly.
"Okay, I forgive you, but I'm still angry." Xixi glanced at him sideways and said quickly, "Unless you let me be your grandma for three days."
Pei Yiyan remained silent for a moment, then smiled and said, "Okay."
The little monster's chubby temper dissipated amidst his father's constant nagging and his grandmother's "what's the point of all this?" After an hour of cold war, Pei Yiyan breathed a sigh of relief.
He dusted off his clothes and asked Xixi if she wanted to go out shopping with him.
Since we've decided to get a kitten, buying cat supplies is an urgent matter. Cat food is the most basic thing, and we also need to buy cat litter, a litter box, and a cat bed.
Xi Xi couldn't wait to fly to the supermarket. The father and daughter hit it off immediately, changed their clothes, and went out.
Just two traffic lights away, there's a large supermarket with a dedicated pet supplies section. It offers not only common canned cat food but also toys for kittens.
Even a simple cat toy has been made to look ethereal by the manufacturer. The combination of feathers and ribbons captivated Xixi, and in the blink of an eye, five cat toys of different lengths and with their own unique features appeared in her shopping cart.
Both father and daughter were novices at raising cats. Pei Yiyan was quite rational and restrained, only taking relatively practical items, such as two packs of diaper pads, a can of goat milk powder, and a mini baby bottle.
Xi Xi picked up whatever looked good, and in no time her large shopping cart was filled with a mountain of items.
Ignoring the mocking looks from passersby who wondered if they were there to buy supplies, the father and daughter left the supermarket carrying large and small bags.
Back home, Pei Yiyan didn't even have time to drink water before tidying up all the cat supplies and installing the cat tree before finally stopping to rest.
Orange the cat has a congenital disability in its two hind legs, which have shrunk to the size of noodles. As a result, it cannot eat or use the litter box like a normal cat, and if it is not cleaned for a while, it will be covered in dirt.
If it weren't for that kind-hearted little girl, Orange would probably have quietly starved to death in some deserted corner.
Pei Yiyan specially cleared out an open space and laid out diaper pads and soft mats for Ju Zi to move around in.
Xi Xi lay on the ground, her two little legs crossed and swinging back and forth. Facing the orange, she rested her chin on her hands and mumbled something.
The footsteps behind him were unhurried. Pei Yiyan carried a bowl of cat food soaked in goat milk powder. After setting it out, he turned around and asked casually:
When are you planning to make ginseng soup for it?
Xi Xi tilted her head, confused.
"Didn't you say you were going to help her get treatment?"
“Yes.” Xi Xi sat up and began to explain seriously, “But Xi Xi’s whiskers are too nourishing. If a kitten eats them, it will turn into a giant kitten.”
She also gestured with her hand to indicate roughly how big it would grow.
Pei Yiyan estimated that it was about the size of a husky, and suppressed his surprise:
"It's okay, I'll take it to the vet this afternoon."
"No need, it'll be fine after a few days of medicine." Xixi gestured towards the balcony, "I'll feed it some of Xiao Hei's vine leaves later."
After coming down from Fragrant Hills, the He Shou Wu vine that Xiao Hei had given me was planted on the balcony of my apartment.
The house has a north-south orientation, with a wide view and plenty of sunlight. The He Shou Wu vine, with its little black charm, is exceptionally easy to care for and can grow wildly on its own without the father and daughter having to take care of it.
Originally a small plant, after being imbued with the ginseng spirit energy from Xixi, it grew rapidly, and within three days of being brought back, it had already grown a small section upwards.
Speaking of He Shou Wu vine, it is also a good thing. It can nourish blood and calm the mind, relax muscles and tendons, and treat symptoms of insomnia and excessive dreaming.
This effect was very suitable for Pei Yiyan in the past, but ever since he raised Xixi, the little girl has become a walking sleeping pill. Pei Yiyan has never had nightmares again, and even during the most stressful senior year of high school, he could fall asleep as soon as his head hit the bed.
The father and daughter, who had no problems with hair loss or insomnia, treated it like an ordinary potted plant.
Upon hearing Xi Xi's words, Pei Yiyan suspected that there was something wrong with her ears.
He remembered that the vines and leaves of Polygonum multiflorum were poisonous when eaten raw and had to be professionally processed before consumption. Could it be that cats and humans eat them differently?
Before Pei Yiyan could figure things out, the little girl spoke up:
"Dad, go pick a leaf for me."
"Remember to wash it thoroughly."
"Wash it first, then crush it."
Pei Yiyan was being bossed around by his daughter. After feeding the kitten its medicine, he hadn't even had a chance to sit down properly when Xixi started swaying back and forth, complaining that she was dying of thirst.
Pei Yiyan, already a workhorse even before entering the workforce:
He half-squatted down and respectfully brought the water to Xixi's lips: "Drink it, it's not hot, I tested the water temperature and it's just right."
Xi Xi looked up and asked, "Dad, did you forget something?"
"No."
No, right? Pei Yiyan racked his brains to remember.
"have!"
Xi Xi said firmly, "You forgot to say that Grandma Xi Xi invited you to have some water."
Pei Yiyan.
