Chapter 5, Part 5: Xixi is Daddy's Darling
Twenty-year-olds are at an age when they are rebellious and defiant, always ready to challenge everything and everyone.
The KFC staff witnessed a dramatic scene of a handsome young man battling a sixty-year-old woman, as the domineering old lady, who was known for her tantrums and swearing, had her car overturned.
The young man looked refined and gentle, with fair skin and delicate features, but who knew he was a ruthless character.
"With your grandson's fat head and big ears, broad back and thick waist, anyone who isn't blind can tell who's bullying whom." Pei Yiyan sneered, "Don't think that whoever shouts the loudest is right. Your stupid pig is bullying my child, and I won't let it go."
He kept calling her a stupid pig, which struck right at the old woman's heart.
Her grandson is so chubby and fair-skinned, everyone in the surrounding area praises his blessed appearance!
"How can you talk like that? I think you're just jealous!" The old lady jumped up angrily. "Your brat is so skinny, she looks like a beggar on the street. You all just can't stand to see my grandson doing well!"
Pei Yiyan's expression suddenly turned sinister, and the cold black aura emanating from his body made the ground shiver.
Xi Xi instinctively moved closer, her round eyes carefully examining the withered old woman, and said sincerely, "No, Grandma, you're so small, you look more like a beggar."
The old lady felt a lump in her throat and almost fainted.
The unseen black mist lingered, wandered around in a daze, and returned to the same place it had come from.
Pei Yiyan glanced at the surveillance camera above his head, calmly took out his phone and called the police. To deal with this kind of shameless old lady who takes advantage of her age, you have to make a big scene.
The police station was nearby. Pei Yiyan had recounted the incident over the phone beforehand, so the police would check the surveillance footage as soon as they arrived, making it immediately clear who was right and who was wrong.
However, the old lady insisted that her chubby grandson was injured and bleeding, so the group went to the hospital for a check-up.
As soon as the doctor finished the examination, the old lady rushed forward and asked, "Doctor, my grandson's mouth is full of blood. Is he seriously injured? Does he need to be hospitalized?"
The doctor gave the patient a strange look and said casually, "It's nothing serious, just a lost tooth." He then added, "It's a baby tooth that's about to be replaced, so don't worry, the new tooth will grow in soon."
Xi Xi raised her chin. See? She said it was nothing. In fact, that chubby boy should thank her.
The merit, transformed into a tiny golden light, silently drifted into Xixi's body. Sensing the slight change, Xixi comfortably squinted her eyes.
Not hearing a satisfactory answer, the old lady grabbed the doctor's hand and questioned, "How could he be alright? Did you even examine him properly? My dear grandson's mouth is full of blood, he must have injured other parts of his body too!"
The security guard at the entrance sounded the alarm and rushed up to pull the old lady away.
The scene of someone getting angry after failing to extort money was nothing new to the two police officers, but medical disputes were a different matter, and they couldn't let things escalate to a different nature.
The hospital corridor was noisy for a moment. Xi Xi sat on a hospital bench, eating fried chicken with relish, her mouth glistening with oil.
The chubby boy hiding behind the old lady had his eyes gleaming and was drooling. If it weren't for the menacing Pei Yiyan standing next to him, he would have snatched it long ago.
The chubby boy, unable to resist the craving, interrupted his grandmother's nagging and rolled around, demanding fried chicken.
There was nothing more for Pei Yiyan and Xixi to do, so the police simply let them leave. Xixi glanced back and softly reminded them:
"Grandma, you should speak nicely to people more often and not argue all the time, or your mouth will get sore."
Xixi is a ginseng spirit baby who can cure diseases. She can smell the strange stench on the old lady's body, which is the unique smell of cancer, and the source is near her mouth.
The old lady has committed too many sins through her speech, and all the resentment others have towards her has backfired on her. If she doesn't cultivate good speech soon, she will soon suffer a painful death from tongue or lip cancer.
Unfortunately, the old lady didn't appreciate Xixi's reminder and instead scolded her again.
Good advice is useless against a damned ghost; even if Xixi wanted to save her, she was powerless to do so.
After a minor incident that wasted a lot of time, it was already 4 p.m. when we left the hospital.
Pei Yiyan disliked the child because her hands smelled of fried chicken, so he refused to hold her hand. Xi Xi pouted and walked to the front by herself.
This time, he didn't deliberately choose to take the bus, but generously hailed a Didi (ride-hailing service).
As soon as they changed modes of transportation, Xixi's curiosity was piqued again. She touched and looked around in the car, and then suddenly fell asleep and got carsick.
The little ginseng spirit lay weakly on Pei Yiyan's lap, groaning, "My head is so dizzy, I feel so uncomfortable, oh dear, did you feed the chicks poisonous mushrooms?"
Pei Yiyan: "You just realized that? Too late."
Xi Xi: "Waaaaah, Xi Xi is going to die."
Pei Yiyan gave a perfunctory reply: "Mhm."
He suddenly felt a sharp pain in his wrist. Looking down, he saw two rows of fresh, small teeth marks. The culprit's dark, bright eyes flashed.
The little girl sat up, her dimples sparkling: "Scaring children will get you punished!"
"This brat's gotten too bold," Pei Yiyan said, deliberately putting on a stern face. "The last one who bit me was kicked off the car by me. Do you want to follow in his footsteps?"
Xi Xi, speaking in a sweet, childlike voice, proudly crossed her legs and said, "You're the one who wouldn't want to."
Pei Yiyan didn't answer, but turned to look out the window.
After getting off the bus, the father and daughter carried large bags of clothes and shoes, and went upstairs one after the other. It was an old residential building with poor lighting, and the motion-sensor lights were broken.
The hallway was pitch black, and Pei Yiyan awkwardly followed closely behind the child, holding up a light with one hand.
As soon as he arrived at the door, he heard the sound of Qiu Ming's door opening. Pei Yiyan's expression changed slightly, and he quickened his pace in unlocking the door.
Click, the door across the street opened.
Pei Yiyan died with a heavy heart.
When Qiu Ming's mother from across the street saw Pei Yiyan, her expression lit up, and she greeted him warmly: "Hey, Xiao Yan, you're out of school so early today."
She immediately realized something was wrong; her son hadn't gotten out of school yet. Could Pei Yiyan be coming home early because he wasn't feeling well?
So he quickly asked with concern if everything was alright.
Pei Yiyan turned around slightly stiffly, subtly blocking Xixi, and said, "Aunt Lan, I'm fine, I just need to rest for a bit."
"It's been cold lately, so you should wear more clothes and keep warm. Don't end up like that silly boy Qiu Ming who gets the flu."
After Aunt Lan finished her rambling, Pei Yiyan opened the door, exchanged pleasantries, and prepared to say goodbye.
The broken motion-sensor light in the hallway suddenly turned on.
The blinding light was accompanied by a childish cry of "Ouch!"
Pei Yiyan shoved Xixi back into the house, and Xixi stumbled, saying, "Dad, what are you doing? Have you gone crazy?"
“”
Aunt Lan: "?"
Upon seeing the exquisitely beautiful little dumpling behind the door: "!"
Aunt Lan asked in shock and confusion, "Who...who is she?"
At this moment, Pei Yiyan seemed to have lost all his strength and means.
"The child I picked up on my way home from school yesterday."
"Auntie, he's Xixi's dad! Xixi is her dad's precious little girl."
Aunt Lan's pupils dilated in shock: !!!
Xi Xi's origins are unknown, but she is convinced that Pei Yiyan is her father. Her goal is so clear, and the two look so alike that, although it is hard to believe, Aunt Lan can't help but think that they are in a relationship and have a child at such a young age.
However, it might really be a false alarm. Not only did the boy involved harbor this hope, but those around him thought so too.
Now we're just waiting for the paternity test results.
After seeing off the deeply shocked Aunt Lan, Pei Yiyan sat on the sofa, smoking in frustration.
Pale gray smoke rings were exhaled from thin lips, and soon the entire living room was filled with smoke, while the little cannonball in the bedroom burst out.
The head hit Pei Yiyan in the stomach, and Pei Yiyan, who was immersed in puffing out smoke, almost couldn't catch his breath and turned his head to choke several times.
He quickly stubbed out his cigarette, then angrily pinched the little girl's cheek: "Are you tired of living?"
Xi Xi scrunched up her face and struggled to raise her little fist: "Daddy stinks!"
His breath stinks, his hands stinks, he smells awful.
Pei Yiyan's eyes turned cold: "Believe it or not, I'll throw you out."
He released her, using a harsh word: "Troublemaker."
Xi Xi rubbed her little face, her almond-shaped eyes gradually becoming moist, and pouted as she retorted, "Xi Xi is a ginseng spirit, not a troublesome spirit!"
"I don't care what kind of spirit you are, where did you come from? Who told you about the alignment of the seven stars?"
Oh, Daddy's so mean.
"Mom, Mom told Xixi," the little girl said, her eyes reddening. "Xixi didn't lie."
Xi Xi's little shoulders trembled, and tears streamed down her face in an instant. Unlike ordinary children who would open their mouths to scream, she cried quietly and sadly, which made her even more endearing.
Pei Yiyan snapped back to reality, his brows furrowing.
Frustration turned into a feeling of oppression. He pursed his lips, his movements awkward and unnatural as he pulled out a tissue, haphazardly wiping the child's tears from his face, not daring to look directly at him.
The series of actions not only failed to calm the child down, but instead caused the child to scream and sound the air raid siren.
“”
Outside, Qiu Ming, who had skipped class early and rushed back, banged on the door: "Hey, Yan-ge, have mercy! She's still a child. No matter what, we can't mistreat a child, Yan-ge!!!"
His hoarse, strained voice lingered for three days.
As soon as the door opened, Qiu Ming fell face-first into the mud, and his crying stopped.
Qiu Ming didn't care about anything else. He got up, dusted himself off, and his eyes locked onto the small figure in the living room. He cried out, "My dear niece, are you alright?"
The little girl's nose and face were red, and there were still wet tears on her eyelashes. She looked so pitiful.
Qiu Ming was heartbroken and indignantly accused Pei Yiyan: "Brother Yan, how could you bully a child? How old is Xixi? Can't you talk things out properly?"
This kid has a death wish.
As if she had found a backer, Xixi choked up and said, "Daddy smells bad and he's mean to Xixi."
"This is what Dad's face looks like."
Xi Xi pulled at her eyelids and made a funny face, making Qiu Ming, who was facing the cute and fierce little cub, swoon with delight.
What could such a lovely child have done wrong? What bad intentions could she possibly have?
He hates that Yan Ge is a blockhead!
Qiu Ming took off his schoolbag, pulled out a bag of candy, and presented it like a treasure: "Don't cry, don't cry. Even if Yan-ge doesn't love you, your brother will. Have a piece of candy to cheer yourself up."
The candy's colorful packaging immediately captured the little ginseng spirit's heart.
Children's tempers always come on quickly and go quickly, and Qiu Ming's method of diverting attention is ingenious.
Pei Yiyan slowly walked to the window, opened it, and let in some fresh air.
Turning back, an idea suddenly came to her mind. With long strides and a casual air, she said, "Since you like this little troublemaker, why not take her home and raise her? Aunt Lan has already met her anyway."
Then they heard Qiu Ming's terrified voice: "You beast!"
"Brothers are of one mind with you, but you're just playing mind games with your brothers." He's still a virgin who's never even held a girl's hand!
After saying that, Sihua shrank back and hid behind Xixi.
Xi Xi:
Pei Yiyan:
"Uh, wait a minute, you said my mom met Xixi? When did that happen? What did you say?"
“It’s only been a short time, to be honest.” Pei Yiyan paused for a moment, “So there’s something I need you to do for me.”
Qiu Ming: "What?"
"Please tell Aunt Lan not to tell my mom about Xixi." He was caught off guard by what happened so suddenly.
"This is nothing, I'll take care of it for you."
Pei Yiyan's expression relaxed slightly: "Thanks."
Aunt Lan and her mother, Zhou Yi, were college roommates and had a very good relationship. They lived together here in their early years, but later, her mother went out to work and moved out. Not long after, she remarried and settled in Beijing with her husband.
He didn't move because he found it too troublesome. Over the years, Aunt Lan has often taken care of him and is a person who is genuinely good to him.
Qiu Ming hesitated before saying what he was going to say, then leaned over and chuckled, "You really should thank me. How about we go to the arcade together on Saturday? Da Liu and Lao Yang are both there, let's get together as a group of four."
Pei Yiyan lifted one eyelid: "Your cold is better? Aunt Lan told you not to go out, so as not to infect others."
Qiu Mingle spoke up, as smug as a rooster: "Brother Yan, take a closer look, don't I look exceptionally handsome today?"
"It's strange, but as soon as I got home yesterday, I fell asleep and slept soundly until dawn. When I woke up this morning, I felt refreshed and had no stuffy nose or headache at all. It's like my appearance has been rejuvenated."
Before Pei Yiyan could speak, a small hand was raised high: "Because Xixi helped you swat away the little dark cloud, isn't that awesome?"
Including the little fat boy, Xixi received a total of three merits today, two of which were Qiu Ming's cold and her cheap dad's rhinitis.
The more merit she accumulates, the stronger her magical power becomes, enabling her to cure more difficult and complicated diseases and save more people.
Qiu Ming suddenly remembered what happened last night, and he smiled: "Yes, yes, thanks to Xixi. What gift does the little lucky star want?"
Xi Xi humbly replied, "No need. Brother gave Xi Xi some delicious oranges. You can come to Xi Xi whenever you're sick in the future."
Neither of the two boys present took the little girl's words to heart.
The paternity test results came out on Saturday, and Pei Yiyan could conveniently send the child to the orphanage, so he agreed.
