Chapter 28, Part 28: Little Muggle Dad
At that time, Xixi, who was playing happily with her friends in kindergarten, had no idea that her father's burning competitive spirit was about to burn her.
From then on, every meal consisted of milk, eggs, and beef, with a growth-promoting diet that was never missed. On weekends, her enthusiastic high school student father would drag her to play basketball, forcing her to sit on his shoulders to practice directional shooting. After she made a basket, he would carry her all over the court.
The little girl screamed and yanked at her father's hair. Hearing his daughter's excited screams, the clueless father endured the pain, revealed a proud smile, and then ran even faster.
"Brother Yan, Xixi went to kindergarten today."
"Um."
Qiu Ming bent down and looked closer, wondering, "Why aren't there any photos of Xixi? They're all of other children."
Pei Yiyan's voice was muffled: "The teacher didn't take any pictures."
Qiu Ming: "Why don't you ask the teacher to take some pictures? Our Xixi is so cute, don't you want to know what she's doing?"
Pei Yiyan naturally wanted to know how his little darling was doing at kindergarten, but he was too embarrassed to tag the teacher in the group chat and ask her questions.
After struggling for a while, he simply sent a message to his little darling. Knowing her as he did, he was sure she would find time to play with her phone watch.
The elderly father waited quietly for a reply.
I waited and waited, and a whole morning passed, but I still didn't receive a single punctuation mark.
Pei Yiyan couldn't sit still any longer. He held his phone and typed out each word carefully: "[Teacher Xiaoyou, hello teacher, what is my child Huaxi doing?]"
The teacher replied quickly: "Dear parents of Xixi, it's lunchtime now, and the children are all eating lunch."

[Little Hua Xi eats very well, she's not picky at all, and she's the only child in the class who finishes her food completely. Thumbs up! jpg.]
Pei Yiyan's lips curled up as he read the message.
That's right, his daughter is an extremely independent child, and she inherited his intelligence and quick wit.
After having lunch at the school cafeteria, Pei Yiyan and Qiu Ming strolled aimlessly on the street. Qiu Ming suggested going to the kindergarten to see Xixi.
Pei Yiyan refused righteously and firmly.
"What if she sees me and wants to go home? Can you comfort her?"
Qiu Ming thought about it and realized it made sense. Every day on his way to school, he would pass by a nearby kindergarten, and outside were lots of little kids crying and whining, not wanting to go to school.
The cries were deafening, their echoes lingering for three days, sending chills down the spines of those who heard them.
Qiu Ming: "Forget it, I can't do it. How about we play a few games online?"
"I'm not going."
"Where shall we go?"
Unmarried young man Qiu Ming failed to grasp Pei Yiyan's deep concern. With his daughter on her first day of kindergarten, he had no time to play games; he simply glanced at his phone.
His girlfriend hasn't replied to his message yet.
Did she really behave and go to sleep obediently?
I don't know if she's sensitive to sleeping in a different bed. He aired out the little blanket and pillow the kindergarten gave her for two days, so they should be warm enough for her to sleep in.
Will she have nightmares if there are no dolls she likes by her bedside?
Although the little girl sleeps like a pig, I've never actually done that.
Pei Yiyan was puzzled, but when he looked up again, the words "Red Star Kindergarten" were clearly visible right in front of him.
"Brother Yan, you're really good at leading the way," Qiu Ming said with a grin. "Didn't you say you weren't coming to kindergarten?"
His response was a whack with the elbow: "Too much talk."
The two walked forward one after the other, standing at the gate looking around.
The security guard poked his head out of the guard booth: "Hey young man, what are you doing here? This is a kindergarten, unauthorized personnel are not allowed in."
Qiu Ming rubbed his chest and chuckled, "Sir, we're not just bystanders, we're family members."
The security guard looked them up and down. One had a cold, expressionless face, while the other had a big smile on his face. He was tall and strong, and looked like a dangerous student who didn't study hard and was just loafing around.
"Go away, go away, it's not time for school to end yet. Let the adults at home come to pick up the kids. Young man, don't skip class, hurry back to school."
Pei Yiyan: "
Qiu Ming protested, "Sir, you're judging us by our appearance! Can't we come out for some fresh air in the middle of the day? We didn't skip class."
Security guard: Read but not replying.
The small window of the security booth slammed shut.
The two left dejectedly. When Pei Yiyan came to pick up Xixi from school in the afternoon, he had already stuffed the school uniform top into his schoolbag.
The father, exuding youthful charm, stood out from the crowd, the most handsome guy there. While Pei Yiyan was still searching for his daughter with his eyes, the chubby little bean had already jumped up.
"Daddy, Daddy! Xixi is here."
Pei Yiyan locked onto her target and quickened her pace: "Dad's here."
What followed were the astonished and shocked looks of those around him.
The handsome father stood at the back of the line and took his son from the teacher, while the other little ones in the class stared blankly at him.
"Xixi, why...why do you call your brother 'Dad'?"
With a calm and radiant expression, Xixi said in a clear voice, "He is my father."
She held up a chubby little finger and pointed at Qiu Ming behind the crowd: "That's my brother."
Although the child was young, his eyes were sharp. Qiu Ming was a bit rough around the edges, but he wasn't precocious enough to be from a different generation than Pei Yiyan.
The newborn little brain is not enough to handle the question. The little bean is scratching his face in confusion. Can the older brother call the father, and can the father call the older brother?
A classmate waved and said, "Goodbye, Xixi."
Xixi readily agreed, "Goodbye Youmi, goodbye Nini."
Pei Yiyan raised his eyebrows slightly, his expression quite intriguing, and held the child in his hand tightly. He really was a social tyrant.
"Dad, carry me."
Pei Yiyan turned his back, squatted down, and slowly walked home with his daughter on his back.
Back home, Aunt Liu had already prepared a table full of hot dishes. The father and daughter washed their hands and ate.
There's no rule about not talking while eating or sleeping at home, so Pei Yiyan said with a smirk, "The little monster is doing quite well in kindergarten, huh?"
"Fish?" Xixi paused, her cheeks bulging from the food. "There's no fish at kindergarten. Xixi didn't eat fish today."
"Does Dad mean you had a good day at kindergarten and were happy?"
"No, no."
"What's wrong with it?"
"I'm exhausted!"
"?" Pei Yiyan slowed down his chopsticks, "Explain it more clearly."
The little girl chattered away like beans spilling from a bamboo tube, saying, "The little babies are so hard to soothe. They always cry for their mom and dad. The teacher has to soothe one and then another, so busy that she doesn't even have time to drink water. So I help soothe the little babies."
Pei Yiyan found it amusing; he himself was just a little baby, yet he still had time to coax others.
How did you help?
“I told them that if they cried a lot, their noses would grow longer, like an elephant’s trunk. They didn’t believe me, but when they touched their noses, they really did grow longer.”
Pei Yiyan had a bad feeling: "You didn't mean they used some kind of sorcery, did you?"
"No, no."
Xi Xi shook her head repeatedly, took a big sip of yogurt and said, "I was just kidding them. Their noses didn't grow longer. I just used a little trick. I told them not to cry and their noses would go back to normal."
Pei Yiyan frowned: "Isn't this still sorcery?"
“It’s not sorcery, it’s called an illusion.” Xi Xi explained, shaking her head. “Dad, you taught Xi Xi this.”
It's that tree spirit dad again.
Pei Yiyan is currently a muggle who doesn't know any magic, so magic is an uncontrollable and dangerous thing in his eyes, like a lighter in a child's hand, which he has to be careful to avoid any accidents.
He pinched his brow in annoyance, then said seriously, "From now on, you are not allowed to use magic or illusions at school. It's illegal in modern society. Whether you're human or demon, if you're caught, you'll go to jail and eat in jail, understand?"
The lawless little monster: (⊙o⊙)
"Will children also go to jail?"
"certainly."
"Is the prison food good? Do they have yogurt? Can we order fried chicken?"
"You're treating jail time like a vacation? Of course not!"
Xi Xi's eyes darted around, and her little mouth moved as if she was about to say something more, but Pei Yiyan immediately cut her off:
"Prison food consists of pickled vegetables and steamed buns. There is no meat that you like, and you can't order dishes, watch TV, or play on a tablet."
Good heavens, this is the scariest thing the little monster has heard all year!
The next day, Pei Yiyan took Xixi to kindergarten as usual. His daughter skipped and hopped into the classroom, waved goodbye to him with a flourish, and showed no sign of being reluctant to part with her father.
Pei Yiyan returned to school feeling dejected. That day, during the class meeting, Teacher Lü announced that there would be a parent-teacher conference the following Friday.
It is customary to hold a parent-teacher meeting in the first week of each semester, and the parent-teacher meeting in the last semester of senior year is an even more important event.
Given Pei Yiyan's family situation, Zhou Yi definitely wouldn't be able to make it back for the parent-teacher conference. In previous years, Qiu Ming's mother would attend the conference along with him.
This year was supposed to be the same, but when Xixi heard that her father was going to hold a parent-teacher conference, the little girl immediately volunteered, patting her chest loudly.
"Xixi will attend Dad's parent-teacher conference; Xixi is Dad's parent."
Pei Yiyan almost spat out his water: "Do you even know what parents are?"
“Of course, I’m a baby who grew up at home.” Xi Xi said seriously, breaking down each word logically and clearly, “Xi Xi is a baby who grew up at home.”
Are you kidding me? A room full of parents with such a little kid in it? Even movies wouldn't dare to film this. Doesn't he have any dignity?
Pei Yiyan refused without hesitation.
On Monday, the day of the parent-teacher conference, Old Lu stared blankly at the little girl in Pei Yiyan's arms: "What are you doing here?"
Pei Yiyan remained expressionless: "Teacher, I'm your parent. I'm here for the parent-teacher conference."
Old Lu: "?"
Are you alright?
Xi Xi greeted everyone enthusiastically: "Hello, Grandpa. I am my dad's guardian. My name is Xi Xi."
Old Lu's face immediately broke open, and his skin trembled.
"Grandpa, hello! Grandpa, what's wrong?"
You can't hit someone who's smiling. Old Lu took a deep breath, gritted his teeth, glared at his good students, and put on a kind expression: "Ah, alright, alright, you can go in first."
The moment Pei Yiyan carried the baby into the classroom, the entire class fell silent as if a pause button had been pressed.
The little girl, who looked like a doll, had a sweet smile on her face. She was wearing a pink Hanfu and an apricot-colored embroidered cloak. She was radiant.
He had thick eyebrows and big eyes; he looked strangely familiar.
Cheng Xiaocen hurriedly patted Meng Zhi and shook her head: "Yaoyao, isn't that the child we met last time? I remember that child gave you roasted sweet potatoes. I heard her call you Sister Meng. You two are very familiar with each other, right?"
"Hmm, it's alright," Meng Zhi replied vaguely.
"That's Pei Yiyan's sister, right? How did you two meet? Please tell me."
Meng Zhiyao silently turned her back, pretending to be very busy.
Cheng Xiaocen scratched her head curiously: "Hey, it's parent-teacher conference today, why did he bring his child? Does he want the child to attend his parent-teacher conference?"
Old Lu was still outside in the cold wind trying to calm himself down, while the class monitor and subject representatives had already started distributing the final exam papers from the previous semester.
When the final exam papers were handed out, everyone reacted with different kinds of laughter, anger, and curses.
Xi Xi listened to her parents cursing beside her: "You good-for-nothing boy, what kind of score did you get? Where is your brain? Everyone else can get 120 or 130, and you only got this little! You're so embarrassing."
"Oh dear, Mom, be gentle. No one in our family is good at studying. Your and Dad's combined college entrance exam scores are only 800."
"You mean I didn't give birth to the right person? You think you're all grown up now, daring to talk back!"
Xi Xi's dark eyes were fixed on her, her playful side suddenly awakened. She imitated Xi Xi, hands on her hips, and angrily questioned:
"You jerk of a dad, how come you only got a few points? You've made Xixi lose all face."
Pei Yiyan stared speechlessly at the perfect score on her math paper, then flicked her forehead: "Who are you calling a bastard? You think you're all grown up now."
"Call me Dad."
The world was eerily silent.
What is that?
ah?
Dad? Pei Yiyan?
