Chapter Thirty-Eight: Su Zhao's Family (Part Two)

After the two left, Chen Qingxia said with dissatisfaction, "Dad, why were you so enthusiastic towards her? You even had Xiao Zhao bring her home. Be careful she doesn't overthink it."

Grandpa Chen glanced at her and said, "What are you thinking about?"

"What are you overthinking? A girl naturally wants to marry into a good family. What if she has some inappropriate thoughts and uses this to cling to us?"

Su Minxiong didn't speak, but Old Master Chen said, "If Xiao Zhao likes it, that's fine too. I think this child is well-educated and has a very good appearance."

Not to mention in Luxian County, even if you took him to the provincial capital or Beijing, Xu Nuo would be a respectable person.

Chen Qingxia's face turned cold: "What do you mean, 'accept'? What is their family's status? Is Xu Nuo worthy of our Su Zhao?"

Old Master Chen wasn't thinking about that. Her family background was certainly not good enough, but if Xu Nuo were someone who made herbal teas, her value would be much more than that.

His gaze fell on the cup of tea. Who wouldn't fight tooth and nail for something this good?

Everyone gets sick and suffers. Those high-ranking officials and nobles cherish their lives more than anyone else. No amount of money can compare to a life-saving medicine. If they had such a good thing in hand, would they be afraid of not being able to win them over?

He turned to look at Chen Minxiong: "Take some with you when you leave, you might need them."

Chen Minxiong nodded; he and Old Master Chen had the same idea.

...

There was a lot of discussion on the other side, but Xu Nuo and Su Zhao got along peacefully. Su Zhao saw her to the door and said apologetically, "You came all this way, I should have invited you to stay for dinner."

Xu Nuo waved to him with a bright smile on her face: "Don't be so polite, I'll be going now."

Su Zhao nodded and watched the person leave. Suddenly, someone patted his shoulder. Nie Wenkai, grinning, put his arm around Su Zhao's shoulder and said, "Comrade Su Zhao, didn't you say you weren't going to date?"

Su Zhao shrugged, brushed his hand away, and walked towards home: "Don't talk nonsense."

Nie Wenkai caught up with her: "I saw her! Fair skin, big eyes, and a smile like a little white rabbit. Why don't you introduce her to me? My old man is urging me to find someone soon."

Su Zhao said, "Don't talk nonsense, he is my maternal grandfather's guest."

“Grandpa Chen’s guest? Then I have to go find Grandpa Chen. I really like that girl, yes, I really like her.”

They arrived at Su Zhao's house in the midst of their jokes, and Nie Wenkai actually followed him inside, calling out, "Grandpa Chen, Grandpa Chen."

Upon seeing Su Minxiong sitting in the living room, he immediately became obedient: "Uncle Su."

Nie Wenkai fears nothing but Su Zhao's father.

When he was a child, he was naughty. When his father couldn't control him, he would call Su Minxiong. Su Minxiong would hold Nie Wenkai down and spank him. From then on, he would behave himself whenever he saw Su Minxiong.

Chen Qingxia chuckled: "What's wrong with you? You act like a mouse seeing a cat when you see your Uncle Su."

Nie Wenkai smiled cheekily, not daring to mention again the matter of asking Grandpa Chen to introduce him to a potential partner.

...

Li Xian returned to Luxian Village very late last night. Duan San sat at his door waiting for him, pacing anxiously.

Upon seeing him, she breathed a sigh of relief: "You're finally back! You scared me to death. I thought something had happened."

Li Xian pushed open the courtyard gate and went in, his voice weak: "It's nothing."

Duan San sniffed and, in the dim light, saw a dark patch on his arm: "Brother Li, your wound is bleeding."

Li Xian grunted in acknowledgment, placed a package on the table, and then went to treat the wound on his arm. Duan San glanced at it; it was a high school textbook.

The book was spotless; not a single drop of his blood had spilled onto it.
