Chapter 56 Li Xian, you're pretending to be a ghost to scare people.

The kitchen was lit, and even without the lights on, one could see clearly.

The man was soaked to the bone, but he didn't care. He quickly fetched water to boil before quietly pushing open the door to another room.

It was still dark, and fearing she would find it too dark, he lit a candle and went to the bedside.

He reached out halfway, then withdrew his hand, simply standing by the bed and softly calling her, "Xu Nuo."

Although his voice was very soft, he was extremely patient. After calling for a few minutes, Xu Nuo opened her eyes groggily and saw a glowing shadow standing by the bed in the darkness. She was so frightened that she thought it was some kind of evil spirit coming to take her life.

Xu Nuo was so frightened that she lost her voice. She kicked her two fair feet backward, but she retreated too quickly and the back of her head made intimate contact with the hard bed board.

Xu Nuo touched her head and burst into tears.

Li Xian was startled by her. He grabbed her head and traced the back of her head with his fingertips, saying helplessly, "Does it hurt? How could you be so careless?"

Who knew that Xu Nuo would accuse him with tears in her eyes: "Li Xian, waaaaah, you dressed up as a ghost to scare people, waaaaah, you scared me to death."

Li Xian's face stiffened. He wanted to retort, but seeing that she was really scared and crying, he swallowed the words that rolled on his tongue twice.

He crouched down, somewhat at a loss, wanting to comfort her, but Xu Nuo quickly covered her eyes: "No candles, they're scary."

Li Xian then realized that she had been frightened by the candlelight.

He blew out the candle, squatted down by the bed, and carefully touched her face. He felt it was a little wet and said with some annoyance, "I'm sorry, I was afraid you would find it dark."

Xu Nuo's voice was soft and sleepy as she tugged at his clothes, snorted, and then said, "I thought it was a glowing ghost."

Upon hearing her description, Li Xian's brow twitched violently. Only then did he remember the purpose of waking her up. He reached out and wiped her clothes, which were indeed still wet.

He lifted the person up, pointed to the clothes by the bed and said, "Change your wet clothes first, quick."

Xu Nuo then realized that she was covered in wet sand and mud. Without Li Xian urging her, she jumped up to change her clothes.

After dawdling and changing her clothes, she finally said to the dark room, "I'm all done."

Hearing the sound, Li Xian opened the door and came in. Seeing that she was barefoot, he picked her up and said, "Go dry your hair."

It was the same familiar little chair, and a little steam was rising from the pot on the stove. It wasn't fully boiled, but the temperature was just right.

Li Xian scooped out a small basin, tested the water temperature, and placed it beside her feet.

Xu Nuo's shoes were filled with mud and water. Before putting her on the bed, Li Xian had already taken the shoes off and put them aside.

The thought of wiping her feet with his clothes made Li Xian's ears turn red. He took two steps back and heard her say, "Li Xian, I'm injured."

Xu Nuo pulled her trousers up to her knees, revealing a small red scratch that looked particularly alarming against her snow-white, delicate skin.

Perhaps it fell hard, and some sand got in.

Xu Nuo pitifully breathed on her knees, then looked up and saw Li Xian standing there with a complicated expression. She asked curiously, "Li Xian, what are you doing?"

Li Xian then squatted down, his breathing quite heavy, and looked at it: "We need to pick out the sand."

Xu Nuo felt pain upon hearing this and quickly pulled her knee back, shaking her head in protest: "No."

Li Xian was afraid she would fall off the stool, so he caught her. Knowing she was afraid of pain, he advised, "The sand needs to be removed, otherwise it will fester."

Xu Nuo shook her head again, pulled her foot away, and said, "I, I can do it myself. I'll be fine after I apply the medicine."

The skin beneath Li Xian's palm was delicate, yet as cold as ice. He frowned, grabbed her other ankle, and placed it into a bucket of warm water.

His eyes were darker than the night, and he said in a low, hoarse voice, "Soak for a while, wait for the water to boil."
