Busy times fly by. After tidying up the kitchen, Ling Miao wiped the sweat from her brow. The food she ate for lunch was almost digested by now.
She glanced outside and saw the orange-red sunset leaning against the mountaintop, casting large swaths of color like fiery clouds.
It's golden and red, it really looks beautiful.
She rarely had the leisure to think, and looking at the bright and dazzling colors, she suddenly had an idea.
We'll have fried rice with eggs for dinner!
The golden-yellow egg yolk coats the soft, sweet rice grains, and every bite is packed with carbohydrates!
Ling Miao smacked her lips, her mouth seemingly filled with the savory, golden fried rice.
"Miaomiao"
Susan and Audrey stepped into the restaurant together and immediately spotted Ling Miao inside the half-closed kitchen door.
"You've arrived."
Ling Miao quickly went out and greeted them with a smile, "You arrived just in time, I was just about to make dinner."
Susan regained her usual composure and said with a grin, "Better late than never. What are we having for dinner tonight?"
Avril looked around, remembering the taste of lunch, and couldn't help but swallow. She raised her hand, "Me too... no, the three of us."
"No problem! We'll have fried rice tonight."
Avril was a little disappointed; she had thought she would be able to have bamboo shoot and seafood soup for lunch.
"What you made must be delicious!"
Susan was very supportive and pulled Audrey to sit opposite Avril.
Why are you all alone?
"They went to find a transit station and should be back soon."
No sooner had he finished speaking than footsteps sounded at the door. Kerry and Ellis strode in, smiles on their faces, clearly having found the transit station.
Avril gestured for them to sit down, and they exchanged friendly greetings. Sitting there was a bit boring.
Audya sat smiling in the middle of the young people, then suddenly had an idea and suggested, "Why don't we go and help?"
"I agree!"
Susan was the first to respond, standing up abruptly with confidence: "With me involved, the food will definitely taste even better!"
Everyone laughed and then stood up and went to the kitchen.
Ling Miao was initially puzzled when she saw them, but after learning their purpose, she didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Seeing everyone eager to try, Ling Miao handed over the prepared ingredients, told them to wash them carefully, and then took out a few eggs and gently cracked them into a bowl.
Several round eggs were now placed at the bottom of the white bowl, their translucent egg whites encasing orange-yellow yolks, creating a strangely beautiful sight.
Ling Miao used chopsticks to stir the eggs, instantly mixing the previously distinct eggs into a bright yellow color that contrasted beautifully with the white bottom of the bowl. It looked incredibly tempting.
The group of people washing vegetables stood at attention, especially Kerry, whose angular face and resolute features were full of seriousness, as if he were preparing for some important task.
Susan happened to see this scene and burst into laughter.
Kerry looked up and saw that the other person was facing her. When she looked at him, she laughed even harder. Everyone was confused, but Kerry felt a little embarrassed. However, his personality did not allow him to scold the girl.
He could only keep a straight face and continue washing the vegetables in his hands.
Ling Miao glanced at the vegetable leaves in her hand, one by one. The once green and tender leaves were now wilted. Her owner's fingers tightened, and her earlobes slowly turned red.
"Stop squeezing, or you'll be eating rotten leaves tonight!"
As soon as Ling Miao spoke, everyone's attention shifted to Ke Li's hand, and they burst into laughter, teasing him.
The kitchen was filled with laughter and cheerful conversation.
After everyone finished laughing, they continued with what they were doing. Ling Miao poured about half of the beaten egg mixture into a bowl, turning the pure white rice grains yellow. After stirring a few times, it took on a light golden hue. Susan asked curiously:
Why not just pour it all in?
Ling Miao slowly stirred the rice, explaining, "It's mainly for a nice color. Stirring it in the pan can't guarantee that all the rice grains will turn golden."
Everyone nodded, seemingly understanding, and watched as Ling Miao set the mixed rice aside and began preparing the other ingredients.
Kerry and Ellis were assigned to chop vegetables. Although it was their first time doing it, they were a bit flustered for a while, but they managed to get the hang of it.
They diced carrots and chopped greens as finely as possible—such meticulous tasks were things neither of them had ever done before.
Ling Miao glanced at them. Her movements were slow but careful. The diced pieces she cut weren't particularly beautiful, but they were small enough to be considered decent.
Since there were no side dishes like green beans and corn kernels, I had to add other ingredients, which was better than nothing.
To enhance the flavor, Ling Miao secretly bought a sausage from the system, cut it into small cubes, and prepared to add it to the fried rice.
The group worked together efficiently, and everything was ready in just half an hour.
Ling Miao heated the oil in a wok and poured the prepared egg mixture into the hot oil. The egg mixture sizzled and popped, startling the onlookers who took a few steps back.
"Be careful not to get oil splashed on you."
Ling Miao reminded Susan that the other person was standing by the pot, craning their necks to look inside.
"Okay, okay, I know."
You know that, so why don't you back down?
Ling Miao looked at her helplessly. Susan's eyes were fixed on the scrambled eggs in the pan. The hot oil caused the eggs to quickly set, and a rich aroma of eggs spread with each stir.
Those around couldn't help but take a deep breath; the rising temperature made the intense aroma even more pungent.
The scrambled eggs are broken into small pieces, which fall as they are stirred and flipped during the stir-frying process, like scattered gold dust, which is very eye-catching.
"I can't bear to eat it."
Susan stared at the egg scrambled eggs bobbing up and down in the pan, their golden color resembling her thick fur—how beautiful!
"Then give me your portion, I can eat it."
"That won't do!"
Susan turned her head, her orange-yellow cat eyes wide open, her expression serious: "Pretty as you may be, you can't neglect your meal."
Everyone laughed, and Avril added, "It looks so good! I almost don't want to eat it!"
His face showed regret and confusion, which made everyone burst into laughter again.
Hearing the laughter, Ling Miao scooped out the scrambled eggs, heated oil in a separate pan, and sautéed the prepared chopped onions until fragrant.
Fresh onions can be a bit pungent, but with the help of hot oil, the pungent smell is gradually replaced by another aroma, which reaches its peak when the diced ham is added.
The flesh-colored ham cubes, coated in oil, release a rich aroma; despite being a starchy sausage, it somehow exudes the flavor of meat.
Susan's eyes lit up; the longing in them almost became tangible. She stared intently at the rising and falling water in the pot.
The hot oil sizzled, and she felt her heart churning along with it. Frying and cooking was so unbearable!
