Chapter Thirty-One: Beggar's Chicken

When she bought the durian, she didn't think about what would happen next.

What happened next was simply a stroke of luck for the stall owner; Ling Miao didn't think she had done anything wrong.

But the other party clearly regarded her as their savior, and her refusal only made them feel fear.

So she relented and let the other person bring the things in.

Ling Miao glanced at the items discreetly and breathed a sigh of relief.

Perhaps knowing her identity, they sent her only fresh fruits and ingredients.

After delivering the ingredients, the stall owner was about to leave, and the child who was with him also obediently said goodbye to Ling Miao.

This time, the stall owner brought his two sons and a little daughter.

The little girl, Sisi, had fine, soft, yellowish hair and large, round, dark eyes that looked particularly thin against her sparse face.

She said goodbye to Ling Miao in a soft, sweet voice, so well-behaved and adorable that Ling Miao's heart melted.

"etc"

Ling Miao reached out to stop them, "There's no reason to leave right after delivering the goods. You've traveled such a long way, you must be hungry."

As soon as he finished speaking, Niru's stomach rumbled loudly, and he blushed and lowered his head in embarrassment.

The stall owner looked at his youngest son and swallowed the refusal that was on the tip of his tongue.

Knowing that the store manager was about to go to the capital city, he rushed over from home overnight with his son and daughter, leaving all the household affairs to his wife.

On the contrary, he completely ignored the children around him.

His nose tingled with emotion as he saw his child's thin, sallow face, and he shamelessly agreed.

Ling Miao arranged for them to sit down, then turned and went into the kitchen. Seeing the somewhat empty kitchen, she remembered that she had brought a lot of ingredients to take to the capital planet.

Her gaze shifted and landed on the ingredients brought by the stall owner's family.

Susan came out after hearing the commotion outside, and greeted the group with a smile.

What do I need to do?

Ling Miao was still examining the ingredients the stall owner had brought; there were many and varied items, and she had no clue what to do with them.

Her gaze shifted and landed on several prepared chickens.

I've been here for so long and haven't had a single chicken dish yet.

Ling Miao became interested and picked up the prepared chicken to examine it carefully.

These are not old hens; they are all young chickens of adult age. They are not too small, and their meat is tender yet firm. Their pale yellow bodies have been cleaned very thoroughly.

Ling Miao raised an eyebrow, an idea forming in her mind.

She turned to look at Susan, "How about some braised chicken?"

Susan had never heard of this dish before, but that didn't stop her from supporting Ling Miao's idea.

Ling Miao clicked her tongue inwardly. Actually, she wanted to eat beggar's chicken more. Wrapped in lotus leaves, beggar's chicken not only had the fragrance of lotus leaves but also helped to cut through the richness.

The chicken is tender and juicy; a gentle pull reveals the rich, flavorful juices glistening with golden oil. The mountain delicacies inside the chicken cavity further enhance the flavor, making it an extremely appetizing dish.

Unfortunately, some ingredients are still lacking when making beggar's chicken now. Not to mention lotus leaves, even the yellow mud that needs to be wrapped needs to be prepared in advance.

She could easily make a simplified version of beggar's chicken, but Ling Miao always took food very seriously.

I never tolerated my stomach being upset, but now I have to regretfully abandon that idea.

We got right to it, and since we weren't planning on doing a live stream, the preparation process was much faster.

As Susan washed the ingredients, she caught a glimpse of Ling Miao's swift and skillful knife work out of the corner of her eye.

She turned around and began washing the ingredients in her hands even more carefully.

She had been working here for so long, initially just to relieve her frustration, but over time, she had genuinely developed an interest in food.

Seeing ordinary ingredients transformed into delicious dishes through cooking makes her heart leap with joy.

Now she truly loves this job.

Perhaps sensing the change in her attitude, Ling Miao would occasionally start giving her pointers on cooking.

From being clumsy at the beginning, I can now cook some simple dishes.

Susan was enjoying herself, and the shadow that had been hanging over her heart was gradually fading away.

Ling Miao was unaware of Susan's thoughts. She blanched the chopped chicken in boiling water, skimmed off the foam, and then drained it.

Heat oil in a wok, then add the prepared scallions, ginger, and garlic and stir-fry over high heat until fragrant. The rich aroma of scallions and ginger is released under high heat.

The family who owned the stall, sitting inside the restaurant, couldn't resist craning their necks to look inside, drawn by the aroma.

Unfortunately, because the door was half-open, you couldn't see anything, only smell the increasingly strong fragrance.

Niru sat next to his brother, feeling restless as he smelled the fragrance wafting through the air.

Nig glanced at his brother beside him. Nig's expression was calm, seemingly unmoved by the alluring fragrance. Only his sister's face clearly showed longing.

Seemingly noticing her brother's gaze, Sisi turned her round eyes over and said, "Second brother, it smells so good."

Niru nodded in agreement, "The manager is indeed someone who runs a restaurant."

As he spoke, Niru swallowed hard, trying to appear nonchalant.

Nig glanced at his younger brother, then lowered his head and remained silent.

The stall owner sitting opposite felt a little guilty seeing the obvious longing in his son's eyes.

But he quickly cheered up again.

Now that conditions are better, we can give our children more supplements in the future.

As he was thinking, he couldn't help but glance at the kitchen again.

I don't know what the store manager is doing, it smells so good.

Ling Miao poured in the chicken pieces while the fire was blazing and quickly stir-fried them.

The evaporation of water vapor caused the chicken pieces in the pot to turn golden brown.

Watching the chicken pieces gradually change color, Ling Miao added an appropriate amount of seasoning and continued stir-frying.
