Chapter 6 Thinking Differences

Chapter 6 Thinking Differences

Fan Shengmei was slightly stunned. She didn't expect Meng Yanchen to ask this.

She tried to speak tactfully to make her situation seem less embarrassing.

"I don't have the right occasion to recite it."

Meng Yanchen's gaze lingered on her face for a few seconds, his eyes behind the lenses deep and unfathomable.

He was trying to determine the true intention of the woman's actions.

"It's just a bag,"

He said calmly, "Don't take it to heart."

Fan Shengmei clutched the dust bag's straps tightly. "Not everyone can take a million-dollar bag lightly."

There was a brief silence in the car.

Meng Yanchen tapped the steering wheel lightly with his fingertips, thinking of Fan Shengmei's embarrassed look at the cocktail party that day, and seemed to begin to understand why she said such a thing.

Gifts that are not commensurate with one's so-called status can sometimes be a burden.

He really didn't think so much at the time.

He just deliberately avoided the bag that caused misunderstanding at the cocktail party because he didn't want the other party to misunderstand him, and he didn't want the person who received the gift to be reminded of the embarrassment and unpleasantness of that day every time he saw it.

When it comes to apologizing, you should naturally choose the most expensive one to express your apology.

He adjusted his glasses and said calmly,

"A bag is meant to complement a person, not a person to accommodate the bag. A person's value is given by themselves, not by these external things, or..."

He paused, "The definition of a certain type of person."

Fan Shengmei opened her mouth, but was interrupted by him raising his hand.

“I never take back what I give away.”

He glanced at his watch. "You can throw it away or sell it. I'd rather go back and rest up than discuss this. Or invest my time in something that could yield a tenfold return."

This statement is both blunt and hurtful.

Fan Shengmei felt a tightness in her chest, and finally managed only one sentence,

"Sorry to take up your time."

She reached out to open the car door, but was stopped by Meng Yanchen.

"The rain is too heavy, I'll take you there."

Fan Shengmei looked out the window at the terrible weather where she could hardly see the road. If she really refused, she would be asking for trouble again.

We travelled in silence, the only sound in the car being the regular hum of the windshield wipers.

It wasn't until the car stopped at the gate of the Ode to Joy community that Meng Yanchen spoke again.

"Ms. Fan, this bag is just an apology for my sister. You don't need to feel burdened, and don't... overthink it."

The implication was that he was not interested in her either.

Fan Shengmei forced a smile: "Thank you, Mr. Meng."

Fan Shengmei thanked him and got out of the car. She watched Meng Yanchen's headlights disappear in the rain without any regrets, and suddenly felt a sense of frustration.

She was the one who came to return the things, so why did she act like she had done something wrong?

"Who is this? It's so strange!"

She gritted her teeth, kicked the puddle on the roadside, turned around and rushed into the elevator.

As the saying goes, when people are unlucky, even drinking cold water will get stuck in their teeth.

Fan Shengmei stood in front of the door of 2202 and searched her bag but couldn't find the key.

Just as I was hesitating whether to call a locksmith, the elevator opened with a ding.

Andy came out carrying a briefcase.

"Forgot your keys?"

"Um,"

Fan Shengmei shrugged helplessly, "I just called Guan Guan and Xiao Qiu, but one didn't answer and the other was working overtime."

"Come in."

Fan Shengmei sat on the leather sofa in Andy's house, holding a cup of hot ginger tea.

When Andy handed over the dry towel, his eyes fell on the orange gift box.

She has sharp eyes and knows from just looking at the packaging that this is not an ordinary Hermès product, but a high-end product that is limited to the world.

Andy raised an eyebrow, "A gift from your boyfriend?"

"no......"

Fan Shengmei hesitated for a moment, but still told the whole story.

Andy chuckled and pointed at the gift box.

"Meng Yanchen is right. Bao is meant to suit people, not people to suit Bao."

She played with the teacup. "Do you know how much Guokun donated to charity last year? Nine figures. This bag is like buying a cup of milk tea for an ordinary person."

She looked directly into Fan Shengmei's eyes and said, "You are beautiful, capable at work, and loyal to your friends. You deserve the best. Don't limit yourself by thinking."

"Thanks!"

Fan Shengmei's tense shoulders finally relaxed.

A warm current spread from my stomach, I don’t know if it was the effect of the ginger tea or Andy’s words.

Hearing this, Andy paused lightly on the table with his fingertips.

"Wait, you mean, it was Meng Yanchen himself who sent you back just now?"

After receiving Fan Shengmei's affirmative answer, Andy leaned back in his chair.

"In the financial world, a person's personal ethics and public image are also important dimensions for assessing their reliability."

"Guokun is a key partner of ours. As far as I know, Meng Yanchen is extremely disciplined in his work and even more so in his private life. I've almost never seen him publicly announce any heterosexual relationships or engage in similar social rumors. This high level of self-discipline and stability is itself a valuable business asset, and many people value this highly when choosing a partner."

Obviously, what Andy wanted to express was not on the same channel as what Fan Shengmei received.

Fan Shengmei guessed with some gossip,

"So clean? Could it be..."

The two looked at each other, and suddenly they thought of something in tacit understanding, and laughed at the same time.

"I didn't say anything."

Fan Shengmei thought about Meng Yanchen's bony fingers gripping the steering wheel just now, which were really thin and long, and added with a smile,

"However, society is very inclusive nowadays, so it seems...it's not impossible."

"Stop."

Andy interrupted with a smile, "The picture is too weird, I can't let it go any further."

The two were laughing so hard that they were rolling on the floor when Fan Shengmei's cell phone suddenly rang.

It was Qiu Yingying calling.

As soon as Fan Shengmei picked up the phone, she heard a heart-wrenching howl of ghosts and wolves coming from the other end.

"Sister Fan... wuwuwu... where are you? I, I'm poisoned!"
