Chapter 38 Nightmare

Chapter 38 Nightmare

The night is as dark as ink, and sparks are lit in the fragrant courtyard.

In the west wing of Fangfei Courtyard, Liu Jinshu was lying on the couch, his whole body tense.

She didn't dare move at all. If she moved even a little, the pain from the friction between their skin would make her feel piercingly painful.

There is no good flesh left on the once fair skin on her body.

Liu sat in front of her bed, holding the ointment and wiping the scars on her back with anger.

The original black scratches have slowly scabbed over, but the marks left by the military stick are now blood-red and purple.

Liu gently applied the ointment on her back. The ointment was icy cold, and as soon as it touched Liu Jinshu's wound, she screamed in pain.

"Mother...it hurts."

Liu's face was expressionless. She put down the ointment in her hand and said with a hint of blame in her tone: "How many times do I have to tell you that you can't call me mother? Don't you understand what I'm saying?"

Liu Jinshu pursed her lips, looked up at Liu, and said a little aggrievedly, "In your heart, she is more important than me, right? All the suffering my daughter is going through now is for her."

"If you hadn't asked your daughter to imitate her words and deeds, her clothing style, and her makeup and hairstyle, how could I have been treated like that by the King of Qi?"

"I don't want to marry the King of Qi. He's disgusting. Aunt...I don't want to go to the King of Qi's mansion."

Liu Jinshu closed her eyes in pain, and everything that happened between her and the King of Qi at Princess Yan Ning's mansion emerged in her mind. She felt nauseous and vomited.

The King of Qi was handsome and delicate, with a face as bright as the breeze and the moon. But how could he be so rude when doing sexual intercourse with his wife? It made her feel terrified.

Liu put down the ointment in her hand, looked at her coldly, and said in a cold voice: "It's not up to you."

"I shouldn't have let you go back to Yanjing. Letting you go back to Yanjing was my biggest mistake."

"If it weren't for the King of Qi, do you think you could have survived this day? I asked you to follow that vixen and learn everything from her, not to steal her poems."

"Why did you steal the Emperor's poem when you could steal anyone else's? Now that the Liu family's male members are not allowed to enter the government, how will my father and brothers view me?"

Liu was furious. She felt distressed and angry when she saw Liu Jinshu lying on the bed covered with wounds.

Liu Jinshu reached out and gently tugged at her sleeve, aggrieved, "Mother...Aunt, can you blame me for this? How would I know that the poem was from the Emperor? It's clearly Su Yuheng who framed my daughter."

"Aunt..." Liu Jinshu said, and began to act coquettishly towards Liu, but Liu remained calm.

She knew clearly that it was not Su Yuheng's fault, as Su Yuheng had no idea that Liu Jinshu would steal poems.

But she just couldn't understand why Su Yuheng would read the retired emperor's poetry collection for no reason. Could it be such a coincidence?

Liu threw away Liu Jinshu, who was tugging at her clothes, and said, "What does this have to do with her? Today, your grandmother wanted to kick you out of the house, but she knelt on the ground to plead for you and speak well of you."

The corners of Liu's lips curled up in a cold arc: "She is really an idiot. I don't know what your return to Yanjing means?"

"Mother." Liu Jinshu spoke again.

"Are you really planning to marry your cousin to Yongzhou? My brother in Yongzhou is not a good person and he even has syphilis."

Liu closed her eyes and said, "I have no choice. This is the only way to quell the anger of my father and brother. Moreover, this little bitch seduced Yan Qiu. Sooner or later, something bad will happen."

"After some time, I will write to Yongzhou and ask your cousin to come to the Marquis' Mansion. Then I will discuss with the old lady and arrange their marriage."

On the couch, Liu Jinshu frowned slightly and looked at Liu.

"Didn't my aunt say that the Immortal Doctor Qingfeng would come down the mountain in a year to offer her as a sacrifice to our Marquis' Mansion? Then if she marries to Yongzhou, wouldn't that mean..." Liu Jinshu's words stopped abruptly, and he subconsciously looked at Liu.

Liu's eyes darkened slightly, and she stared outside the room, looking determined to succeed.

"Of course we have to offer sacrifices, but we'll find another way."

Her slender fingers gently applied the ointment to Liu Jinshu's body. She said meaningfully, "If she has a miserable fate and can't endure the Liu family's torture and doesn't live past seventeen, then the Liu family will owe our mansion a debt."

After Liu finished speaking, she scooped out some ointment and applied it to Liu Jinshu.

Liu Jinshu seemed to understand what Liu meant, so he didn't ask any more questions.

In the main wing of Fangfei Courtyard, Su Yuheng extinguished the candle and went to bed to rest.

Now Liu doesn't allow her to step into Su Yanqiu's yard, so she has time to focus on her own affairs and no longer has to act in front of Su Yanqiu.

In the second half of the night, there was movement outside the northwest window of the main wing.

Su Yuheng opened his eyes immediately when he heard the sound.

She turned over and got out of bed, and caught a glimpse of a figure outside the window out of the corner of her eye.

"Who are you?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Linglong came in from the window and immediately knelt in front of her.

"Miss, it was the prince who sent his subordinates here. He said he was worried that you might be in danger and specifically sent them here to protect you."

Su Yuheng glanced at Linglong who was kneeling on the ground.

"Are you here to protect me or to monitor me?"

Linglong knelt on the ground and immediately explained after hearing what Su Yuheng said, "I am a secret guard and usually do not show up. I will only come out when the young lady is in danger."

Su Yuheng sat on the couch and glanced at Linglong.

Linglong was dressed in black. Although she was not tall, she was very sharp and clever, and had extraordinary skills.

It is rare for her to be a female secret guard at her age.

"I heard that the people around His Royal Highness Prince Li are rare talents who come and go without a trace. Since you are a secret guard, can you do something for me?"

Linglong raised her eyes and looked at Su Yuheng: "Whatever the lady wants me to do, I will go through fire and water without hesitation. The prince said that I am yours in life and your ghost in death."

Su Yuheng chuckled softly at Linglong's words: "Huo Xingzhi really knows how to manipulate his subordinates. Who made you a ghost?"

"Do you know Master Yun, the number one young master in Jiangdong?" Su Yuheng asked.

Linglong frowned and looked at Su Yuheng: "Miss, are you talking about Yun Yi, the most handsome man in Jiangdong?"

Su Yuheng nodded: "Yes, it's him."

Linglong said, "I've heard that Mr. Yun is incredibly handsome and well-versed in poetry and song. Why is Miss Yun here in Yuzhou looking for him?"

Su Yuheng said, "Of course I have something important to discuss with Master Yun."

Of course, he used Young Master Yun to cheat people out of their money and bodies.

As she spoke, she took out a letter from the cabinet and handed it to Linglong: "Go to Yuzhou and deliver this letter to Master Yun. When he sees it, he will definitely come to see me."

Linglong took the letter, put it in her lapel and said, "Your Highness, I will do it right away."

After Linglong left, Su Yuheng went to bed and fell asleep.

The cold moonlight shone through the window and fell on her face. She fell into a deep sleep and then entered a long dream.

In the dream, she saw things during the years when she was a ghost.

In the dream, King Qi ascended the throne, King Li disappeared, and King Qin and King Rui were pierced by thousands of arrows on their way to the battle.

The royal family was drenched in blood.

Su Yanqiu's merit in following the emperor helped the entire Dingbei Marquisate rise in status, and Liu Jinshu became the queen.

All the women and children in the Shen family died, leaving the family in a desolate state.

"Save me, save me." A hoarse and chaotic voice penetrated into the eardrum.

In the hazy dream, Su Yuheng saw a man clearly.

The man was about twenty years old, his limbs were tightly chained and he looked disheveled.

He was wearing a faded prison uniform with bright red blood stains on it.

"Save me."

"Who are you?" Su Yuheng asked him in the chaos.

The man's voice was hoarse and his breathing was weak. He uttered a few words with force: "Chen Tingzhou."

As the hoarse voice fell, a sharp and shrill scream exploded in my ears.

"No!" Su Yuheng suddenly woke up from his dream.
