Chapter 44

Chapter 44

The day I went to Chen Yan's parents' house was a sunny winter afternoon.

The car stopped downstairs of his house. Lin Qi could feel her heart beating faster and couldn't help but take several deep breaths. Chen Yan beside her smiled, unbuckled his seat belt, turned sideways, and held her slightly cold hand.

"Don't be nervous," he soothed her, "My parents are very reasonable people. Besides, I'm here."

Lin Qi nodded and gave him a somewhat forced but still sweet smile.

From the back seat, she picked up the gifts they had chosen together—a purple clay tea set for Shen Yan's father and a fine silk shawl she had chosen especially for Shen Yan's mother. The gifts weren't extravagant, but each one showed a lot of thought.

Chen Yan led her and rang the doorbell of her home.

It was Chen Yan's mother who opened the door. A smile immediately broke out on her face when she saw her son, but her gaze almost immediately fell on Lin Qi, who was beside him, held by his hand. There was a hint of scrutiny in her gaze, but more of a gentle curiosity.

"Hello, uncle. Hello, aunt." Lin Qi bowed slightly and politely. Her voice was sweet and sweet, with just the right amount of respect and a hint of shyness from a first meeting. "I'm Lin Qi. Sorry to bother you."

"Hey, don't bother me, don't bother me! Come in!" Mother Shen immediately smiled and welcomed her in very warmly, "You've been tired on the road, come and sit down!"

Chen Yan's father also came out of the study. Like his son, he didn't say much. He just nodded to Lin Qi, but his eyes were gentle.

After sitting down on the sofa in the living room, an invisible "interview" centered around Lin Qi officially began amid the gentle conversation of Shen's mother.

She asked about Lin Qi's job, and Lin Qi introduced his industry and responsibilities clearly and systematically, neither humble nor arrogant, appearing very professional.

She praised Lin Qi for her beauty, and Lin Qi smiled shyly and said, "Auntie, you look younger, and your skin is so good." With just one sentence, the smile on Shen's mother's face deepened several points.

At this time, Lin Qi saw a model of a mechanical part that Shen's father had casually placed next to the coffee table.

She didn't rashly ask what it was, but waited for a break in the conversation, and naturally led the topic over. She looked at Father Shen with sparkling eyes and said, "Uncle, that model is so unique, and the structure looks particularly complicated. I watched a documentary before, which said that the design of precision instruments requires extremely high logic and spatial imagination. Are you an expert in this field? It must be very hard work."

Her words were extremely clever. She didn't pretend to know anything, but she also accurately praised the profession that Shen's father was most proud of, and also showed consideration for his hard work.

The usually serious engineer father immediately showed a rare smile of appreciation on his face. He opened up and enthusiastically explained to her the principle of the model.

Lin Qi was standing by, listening very attentively. From time to time, he would ask one or two very interesting, unprofessional but to the point questions.

When chatting with Shen's mother, she was even more at ease. She naturally talked about Suzhou Pingtan.

"Auntie, I've always loved Suzhou, especially Pingtan. I've heard Chen Yan talk about it before, and it's made me long for it even more." She said with a smile, "This time I'm here, I really hope to have the opportunity to listen to a live version of 'Sheng Sheng Man'."

This sentence instantly brought her and Shen's mother closer. The two of them chatted about everything from Pingtan to Suzhou cuisine to gardens, almost without stopping.

At the dinner table, Mother Shen picked up a piece of sweet and sour pork ribs for Lin Qi and said with a smile: "Our Chen Yan has been picky and dull since he was a child. It's hard for you to tolerate him."

Chen Yan was about to speak, but Lin Qi smiled and took over the conversation.

She ate the ribs, then looked at Mother Shen and said very sincerely: "Auntie, you got it wrong. Usually it is Shen Yan who takes care of me more. He is very careful. You and uncle taught him so well. It is my blessing to be with him."

After saying that, she secretly winked at Shen Yan playfully.

At that moment, Chen Yan saw his mother and father exchange glances. Then, both of them showed the same smile, a smile that came from the heart and was completely satisfied.

Chen Yan sat next to her and didn't say a word from beginning to end.

He just quietly poured her tea and helped her set the table.

Then, with an unprecedented sense of great pride and satisfaction, he watched how his girl effortlessly conquered his whole world with her unique, well-behaved and intelligent way.
