He clenched his fists, wishing he could rush onto the stage and tear those two scoundrels to pieces.
He questioned Sun Xiaohua sternly.
"Sun Xiaohua, you shameless slut, how can you be so shameless? Are you so desperate for a man that you've gone crazy?"
Sun Xiaohua pretended to be weak and cried as she told Anxi Wei.
"Waaah, Xiwei, you have to believe me! I was forced into this by An Shitou. He's so strong, I couldn't fight him at all!"
An Shitou was originally planning to give up entirely, but when he heard Sun Xiaohua shift all the blame onto him, he became unhappy.
"Ha! It's all your fault for seducing me. You told me yourself that Anxi Wei was no good, yet you were dressed so scantily and parading around in front of me!"
I have no reason not to eat this meat that's been delivered to my door; I'm a normal man!
Then An Shitou looked at Anxi Wei and smiled smugly.
"Hehe, Xiwei, you're lucky, Sun Xiaohua's feeling isn't bad!"
An Shitou's words infuriated Anxi Wei, who was about to rush onto the stage without a second thought.
An Baogen clapped his hands.
"Alright, Xiwei, you can settle the score privately. Now I'm here to announce the punishment for An Shitou and Sun Xiaohua! They'll be sent to the commune in a bit and treated as having an affair!"
Sun Xiaohua made a promise while crying.
"Captain, I'll never do it again! Please don't send me to the commune. How am I supposed to live if I'm sent there?"
An Baogen looked coldly at Sun Xiaohua.
"If you knew this would happen, why did you do it in the first place? If you decided to do something like this, you should have been prepared to be discovered!"
Sun Xiaohua looked hopefully at Anxi Guard.
Anxi Wei was glaring at her, wishing he could strangle her; there was no way he would plead for her.
"I have no objection; both of them should be handed over to the commune!"
Wang Zhaodi and her husband also supported their son.
“My son is right. Those two should stay where they belong. They’re just making a mess of our village!”
"Yes, the adulterous couple must be handed over to the commune!"
An Baogen was satisfied with the behavior of Wang Zhaodi's family and did not plead for them indiscriminately. He looked at the villagers.
"Alright, everyone get back to work! As for An Shitou and Sun Xiaohua, I'll have Huazhong take them to the commune later!"
Even after the meeting ended, the villagers were still discussing it when they went to work.
"I never expected that Sun Xiaohua and An Shitou would actually get together!"
"Did you all hear what An Shitou said just now? Anxiwei is no good. He's so big, yet he's useless!"
Just as the person with them was about to speak, he gave a wink to the person who had spoken first, and Wang Zhaodi and her husband came over, telling them to stop talking.
Wang Zhaodi glared at the gossipers.
"Shut up, all of you! If I hear anyone talking about my Xiwei again, I'll make sure you regret it!"
This is clearly An Shitou's excuse; those two are blaming each other, and you actually believe that?
When the person discussing others was overheard by the mother of the person in question, they all gave an awkward laugh and went back to their work.
Zhuang Zhimeng listened to the whole thing before going to gather pig feed.
I was still complaining to myself as I walked down the street.
"This Sun Xiaohua is really out of her mind. How could she fall for An Shitou? Anxi Wei is better than An Shitou in every way. I really don't understand her!"
He shook his head, quickly banishing An Shitou and Sun Xiaohua from his mind.
The affair between An Shitou and Sun Xiaohua was discussed in the village for a few days, but then people stopped talking about it because the double harvest was about to begin, and grain was the most important thing.
Before the busy harvest season, Zhuang Zhimeng took leave to go to town to submit her translation, received 700 yuan in wages, and also got a new book.
This time, Zhuang Zhimeng wasn't thinking about any extra transactions; it was too hot, and she didn't want to dress up.
The double harvest season, which lasts for more than 20 days starting in mid-July, continues until before the beginning of autumn.
Harvest and plant quickly, don't plant the August 1st rice seedlings.
This means that early rice should be harvested as early as July, and late rice seedlings should not be planted later than August.
During the double harvest season, everyone, young and old, has to participate; no one can be given special treatment, and everyone must fight with all their might.
They usually have to start working in the fields in the early morning and can't go back to sleep until around 10 p.m.
Harvesting rice is the prelude to the double harvest season. A portion of the rice must be harvested first to make room for subsequent steps such as threshing, plowing, and transplanting.
With a shout from An Baogen.
"Open the branches and harvest!"
This marked the beginning of the busy harvest season.
Harvesting rice is considered a relatively easy job, and it is mainly women and children who are responsible for harvesting rice.
Young and able-bodied men were assigned to heavy physical labor such as threshing and plowing.
Zhuang Zhimeng was not assigned any tasks, but the captain gave her special treatment and assigned her to make herbal tea for everyone.
Zhuang Zhimeng couldn't believe it at first and kept asking An Baogen.
"Uncle Baogen, are you really only asking me to brew herbal tea for everyone, and not asking me to do any work?"
An Baogen looked at Zhuang Zhimeng and nodded clearly.
“That’s right, Zhuang Zhiqing, you haven’t done much farm work before, so you’re more suited to making herbal tea for everyone!”
Zhuang Zhimeng happily thanked An Baogen.
"Thank you, Uncle Baogen. I'm suitable, very suitable!"
Zhuang Zhimeng was finally completely relieved. She was really worried that if she was assigned any farm work during the double harvest season, she might not be able to handle it, since she hadn't done any heavy work in a long time.
An Baogen watched Zhuang Zhimeng's departing figure and muttered to himself.
"I'm doing you a favor now, and who knows, I might need your help in the future!"
Zhuang Zhimeng didn't hear these words, and even if she had, she wouldn't have found it strange. Although her grandfather wasn't wearing a military uniform that day, anyone with eyes could tell he had the air of a high-ranking general.
She just didn't expect the captain to be so insightful and to take such good care of her.
Regardless, Zhuang Zhimeng benefited from her grandfather's influence, but why was she so happy? The most important thing was that she didn't have to do farm work!
