Chapter 105 I said I would repay you
Pei Jiuyan had returned more than an hour ago. He had just arrived at Chi Donglin's ward with his food when someone from the nurses' station came to inform him that he had a phone call.
The caller was Song Yunlai. Upon learning that Zan Zan was missing, he drove straight back to the military region and led his men to set up defenses and search the surrounding area.
Unfortunately, after searching for so long, not only was there no news of the child, but someone also came to report that Qin Suisui had an accident!
He calmed himself down, called Xiao Sheng over, and told him to continue searching according to the original deployment and to report back immediately if there was any news. He then drove straight to the military hospital.
In the hospital, Qin Suisui had already woken up. She had reacted quickly when Zhou Zecheng spilled the packet of sleeping pills, holding her breath. However, she had still inhaled some, causing her to briefly lose consciousness.
Jia Zhenzhen was still unconscious. After all, she had lost a lot of blood and had inhaled a large amount of sleeping pills without any warning, so it was normal that she wouldn't wake up for a while. But this made things easier for the doctor, who was able to remove the bamboo splinter that was stuck in her buttocks without anesthesia.
Su Yunyi also underwent an examination. Apart from the marks from being bound by ropes, she had no other wounds or snake bites as she had claimed. It seemed that the black snake had not bitten her.
Before Qin Suisui woke up, Song Yunlai stayed with them. Su Yunyi refused to apply the medicine and sat crying by Qin Suisui and Jia Zhenzhen's bedsides.
This was the first time Song Yunlai had ever seen a woman cry so much. She kept saying "Grandma" and "Don't cry" to Su Yunyi, but Su Yunyi ignored her and just kept crying while holding Qin Suisui and Jia Zhenzhen's hands.
When Pei Jiuyan finally arrived, he immediately handed over everything in the ward to him as if it were a hot potato, and went back to find the child.
After Qin Suisui woke up, she immediately sat up in bed when she saw Pei Jiuyan and Su Yunyi: "Ayan, Sister Yunyi, have you found Zanzan yet?"
Pei Jiuyan looked at her pale face, gritted his teeth, and shook his head.
Su Yunyi had already learned from Song Yunlai that Zan Zan was also missing. She was also anxious, but she still comforted her, saying, "Sui Sui, don't worry, the military region has already sent people to look for her."
How could Qin Suisui not be anxious? Recalling her previous guesses, she grabbed Pei Jiuyan's hand: "Ayan, where is Zhou Zecheng! It's him! It must be him! He must be the one who holds a grudge against us and took Zanzan away! Come on! Let's go ask him!"
Zhou Zecheng was placed in the next ward and was guarded by someone. What he did at the Sea God Temple was enough to sentence him to death. Moreover, he was originally fine; he was just knocked unconscious by Qin Suisui with a stick and had already woken up by now.
Qin Suisui was still on an IV drip, so she couldn't go out. Therefore, Zhou Zecheng was taken to their ward.
Upon seeing Qin Suisui, Zhou Zecheng's face contorted with intense hatred: "Qin Suisui! You bitch! You've ruined my plans again!"
"If it weren't for you, Yunyi would have been with me long ago! Why would I be going through all this trouble now?"
He pointed at Jia Zhenzhen, who was still unconscious on the hospital bed, his anger intensifying: "If you hadn't brought this damned tomboy into the medicinal herb garden and had her follow Yunyi around every day, I wouldn't be getting beaten by her every few days! I'm a man! A grown man, tell me, what man can endure this kind of humiliation!"
"And another thing! I've begged you time and time again, begging to work in your herb garden, but you always make excuses, saying the hospital has to make the decision. What? So a tomboy can just come in whenever she wants because she's the daughter of a division commander, and her status is higher than mine? Let me tell you! I'm the chosen one!"
"Want to know about that bastard? Hahahaha! Don't even think about it! He's probably already dead..."
With a "smack!" sound, a trickle of blood immediately spilled from the corner of Zhou Zecheng's lips.
He stared in disbelief at Qin Suisui, who had just been in the hospital bed but had suddenly jumped in front of him: "You hit me? You dare to hit me?"
Qin Suisui was furious: "So what if I hit you! The chosen one, you think? I think you're the chosen rat!! You're a rat that everyone wants to kill! You're a venomous snake hiding among the people! Do you think you can escape punishment for what you've done?! The organization will thoroughly investigate and punish your crimes!"
"Chosen One, my foot!" Qin Suisui spat in his face and, while he covered his face, quickly kicked him in the groin.
"Aaaaaah!" Zhou Zecheng's heart-wrenching screams suddenly echoed through the ward.
Su Yunyi is now filled with fear of this man; the doctor said it's post-traumatic stress disorder. She had initially avoided him when he came in.
But hearing what he said and seeing him easily knocked to the ground by Qin Suisui, Su Yunyi couldn't hold back any longer and rushed out: "You're talking nonsense! I only thought you were a kind-hearted person and a good comrade because you saved the child. I didn't expect that I was wrong. You're a wolf in sheep's clothing!"
"Sui Sui is right! You are a venomous snake hiding among the people! You dare to dream of entering our medicinal herb garden! Don't even think about it!"
As she spoke, she suppressed her fear and, mimicking Qin Suisui, stepped forward and kicked Zhou Zecheng in the groin.
The second blow left Zhou Zecheng feeling like his balls were about to shatter.
But that wasn't the end of it. The two women's anger couldn't be vented by just kicking him a couple of times. Qin Suisui pretended to reach into her pocket, but actually took out all sorts of things from her spatial storage, including itching powder, diarrhea powder, laughter powder, and pain powder, and poured them all into Zhou Zecheng's mouth. Still not satisfied, she and Su Yunyi continued to hit, kick, and pull his hair. The only sound in the ward was Zhou Zecheng's occasional painful howls and bursts of laughter, making for a truly bizarre scene.
The guard standing by wanted to step forward to stop him. Zhou Zecheng had done something wrong and needed to be handed over to the organization for trial; he couldn't be beaten to death by Qin Suisui and the others. But just as he was about to step forward, Pei Jiuyan suddenly reached out and stopped him.
He knew that all three girls were victims in this incident, and if they weren't allowed to vent their anger, they might become ill from holding it in. Jia Zhenzhen was only unconscious at the moment; otherwise, Zhou Zecheng would be in even worse shape.
After being brutally beaten for more than half an hour, Qin Suisui and Su Yunyi were both exhausted and sat down on the ground.
Pei Jiuyan had the guards help Su Yunyi up, then went forward to pick up Qin Suisui from the ground and put her on the bed. He then used alcohol swabs from the table to clean up the bloodstains left from the violent removal of the IV drip. He said helplessly, "Are you done getting angry? Are you feeling better? You should rest well. Leave the interrogation to the guards. Don't worry, we've blocked all the roads. Zanzan is definitely still near the Bright Peak Brigade. We'll find him."
"Hahahaha... Don't even think about it! That bastard is probably dead by now, you won't be able to find him... Hahahaha..." Zhou Zecheng, covered in bruises and scratches, with a large patch of hair pulled out, lay on the ground looking at them triumphantly, his eyes, filled with bruises and bloodstains, filled with malice.
Qin Suisui tried to rush forward again, but Zhou Zecheng, like a lump of mud, looked at her sideways and said, "Go ahead and kill me if you dare! If you kill me, you'll be buried with me!"
"If you want to find that brat, you'd better find a way to protect me, or you'll never see me again in this lifetime..."
"Commander, the child has been found!" A guard suddenly reported from the door, interrupting Zhou Zecheng.
Zhou Zecheng's eyes widened in panic: "How is this possible! You must be lying! How could you have found him!"
He had used up half a year's worth of luck to ask the system to help him find a hiding place!
Right! Where's the system? How come the system hasn't appeared even though I've gotten into such a big mess? Zhou Zecheng desperately tried to summon the system in his mind, but there was no response.
No one paid any attention to Zhou Zecheng on the ground, because soon, a girl of about twelve or thirteen years old was seen at the door of the ward, holding Zan Zan's hand and leading him to the door.
Upon seeing her parents, Zan Zan could no longer hold back her grievances. She let go of the little girl's hand and rushed into Qin Sui Sui's arms. "Waaah, Mommy, Daddy, I thought I would never see you again, waaaah..."
Qin Suisui had already jumped off the hospital bed, scooped Zanzan up in her arms, and gently stroked his head to comfort him: "Zanzan, don't be afraid, you're safe now. Mommy and Daddy are here, don't be scared..."
Once the child calmed down, Qin Suisui noticed that the little girl who had brought Zanzan back was actually Qian Mei! She was the little girl she had rescued from drowning in the river when she went to Hongqiding Brigade to take shelter from the rain in an abandoned hut and happened to witness Li Yaobao and Li Chunmei having an affair.
Qian Mei smiled shyly at Qin Suisui: "Sister, I told you I would repay you!"
Qin Suisui wiped away her tears, pulled her close, and gave her a hug: "Good girl, thank you, thank you for helping your sister find Zan Zan."
It turned out that just that night, when Mai Defu mobilized the entire brigade to help search for the child, Qian Mei and her father Qian Rencai learned that their benefactor's child was missing. The father and daughter didn't even eat before joining the search team. The villagers and the guard company searched almost every nearby brigade and hilltop, and basically every place where people could hide, but they couldn't find the child. If the military region hadn't blocked the roads long ago, they would have almost thought that the child had been taken away by traffickers.
Night fell, and there was still no news of the child. Qian Mei squatted at her doorstep, gazing towards the sea, when suddenly she remembered something, snatched the torch from Qian Rencai's hand, and ran towards the beach.
She'd figured it out! There was still one place she hadn't looked!
