Chapter 2 Empty
The Yang family's house wasn't far from the Qin family's; both were on East Street.
The East Street was pitch black at night. Qin Suisui ran with her head down. Her grandfather was obsessed with ancient martial arts when he was alive. He used her as a target since she was a child, so she was a first-class runner.
When she reached the outside of the Yang family's courtyard, she took out a ladder from her spatial storage and climbed directly into the courtyard.
She found the large camphor tree described in the book, touched the soil with her hand, and tried to find out where the soil was looser.
The book said that Yang Jiankang buried most of the gold and silver jewelry he moved from the Qin family under the trees in the yard, planning to store it all in his spatial storage. The next second, he felt a brief sensation of something foreign in his palm. Qin Suisui looked into her spatial storage and, lo and behold, there were over twenty large mahogany boxes in the factory, all labeled with the Qin family's tags. These must be the gold, silver jewelry, antiques, and calligraphy and paintings in the second room of the cellar.
With the gold and silver jewelry in hand, all that's left are the medicinal herbs, cigarettes, alcohol, watches, and the like.
Qin Suisui retrieved his homemade sleeping powder from his spatial storage. Luckily, his grandmother was a seasoned traditional Chinese medicine doctor. He hadn't learned anything proper from his grandmother since childhood, but he had learned to make sleeping powder, itching powder, and other random things. His grandmother jokingly called him "dog meat that can't be served at a proper banquet!"
These things may not be respectable, but they are incredibly effective. They haven't been used much in recent years due to heightened security, and have all been stored in the storage room. She just took them with her.
The Yang family consists of five people: Yang Jiankang and his wife Sun Yun, their son Yang Zhaoxing and his wife Shen Shulan, and their grandson Yang Xiaobao.
Qin Suisui blew the sleeping powder into several rooms, waited two minutes, and then swaggered into Yang Jiankang's room. She slapped Yang Jiankang, who was snoring, twice, but there was no reaction. Then she took out a flashlight from her spatial storage and looked around the room.
Yang Jiankang had always complained about being poor to his parents, who treated him like a brother and were generous with their money. Over the years, they had given him many nice things. Now, looking at his room, one could see that the wardrobe, desk, and dressing table were all made of mahogany, exactly the same as their own.
Following the design of her wardrobe, Qin Suisui found a hidden compartment. Opening it, she discovered a mini secret room connected to the wall. Neatly stacked against the wall were piles of banknotes, estimated at around 20,000 yuan, along with a dozen small boxes of large and small croissant-shaped coins, and several property deeds. Even her father's expensive watches were inside. Without hesitation, Qin Suisui stuffed them all into her storage space.
Turning around, she rummaged through the dressing table and found an iron box containing a little over a thousand yuan, along with several receipts. Qin Suisui put those away as well. As she was about to leave, she noticed several necklaces and earrings on the dressing table. The more she looked, the more familiar they seemed. Weren't those her mother's things? How did they end up on Sun Yun's dressing table?
Qin Suisui opened the wardrobe again and looked inside. Sure enough, she found several new suits and Zhongshan suits made by her father, as well as her mother's cheongsam. In the drawer at the bottom of the wardrobe was her mother's jewelry box, which was full of gold, jade, pearl, and diamond jewelry. Qin Suisui was so angry that she almost laughed. Was this family rats? Stealing a little here and a little there!
Fearing that she might have missed something, Qin Suisui simply put all the furniture and decorations in the room into her space, leaving only a bare bed and two snoring fat men in the room.
Not wanting to waste any more time searching other rooms, Qin Suisui simply did the same thing, even emptying out the living room.
Finally, they came to the kitchen in the backyard. Yang Jiankang worked in a state-owned restaurant and had made a lot of money over the years. Under the beams of the kitchen were hung a lot of bacon, sausages, cured fish, air-dried chicken, air-dried rabbit, etc. Qin Suisui collected them all. The rice, flour, grain, oil, seasonings, big iron pots, casseroles, kettles, coal stoves, kitchen knives, fruit knives... in the kitchen were also taken away. The pile of coal briquettes in the corner of the kitchen were also taken away. Only used chopsticks and bowls were left, but Qin Suisui thought they were dirty and didn't want them.
Pushing open the back door, which was hidden by firewood in the kitchen, Qin Suisui found a warehouse behind it. The warehouse door was chained and locked with several locks. Qin Suisui took out a brand-new Friendship brand chainsaw from her spatial storage and sawed the chain open with two loud clangs. Pushing open the door, she sawed out a huge pile of rice and flour, along with a lot of beans, grains, dried goods, brown sugar, white sugar, salt, oil, vinegar, sesame oil, sesame paste... Good heavens, this rat not only stole its own things but also public property. It must have emptied the state-run restaurant! Qin Suisui put everything into her spatial storage without any hesitation.
Only at the very end did they discover that the remaining medicinal herbs, her father's secret stash of cigarettes, alcohol, and tea, and her mother's treasured tonics such as bird's nest, fish maw, blood clams, and white fungus were all hidden in an inconspicuous, giant wooden cabinet behind the grain. That rat, it really knows how to hide!
After finishing all that, it was already past four in the morning. Qin Suisui stood in the yard and put the two men's bicycles back into her space. Seeing that the Yang family's house had become just like the Qin family's house, empty and drafty, she felt much better.
She retrieved paper and pen from her storage space, wrote a letter of denunciation with her left hand, and attached the ledger Yang Jiankang used to record "stealing grain" that she found in the warehouse while moving grain, as well as records of transactions with the black market. She rode the only remaining women's bicycle in the yard, circled most of the city, threw the letter of denunciation and the ledger into the yard of Yang Jiankang's nemesis, and then quickly rode her bicycle to the airport, keeping her good deed hidden.
