Chapter 252 Quick, give me some too!
Qin Suisui once again exclaimed that Comrade Zhou Jianguo was truly reliable. They were almost about to fight, but he took the initiative to "sacrifice himself for righteousness" by changing beds, thus suppressing the "struggle."
Zhou Jianguo moved to Liang Qi's seat, which was the upper bunk of Hu Jue's. Since they came out together, took the boat together, and slept in the same room at the guesthouse last night, they could be considered to have some kind of relationship.
As expected, Hu Jue's expression softened somewhat when he saw Zhou Jianguo arrive. He even allowed Zhou Jianguo to climb onto his bed, and the atmosphere visibly eased.
Liang Qi moved to Zhou Jianguo's seat, sharing a private room with Qin Suisui and the others. Now that the room was full of their own people, Qin Suisui and Jia Zhenzhen felt much more at ease, and the two of them sat down at the table and started eating sunflower seeds.
"By the way, Ruwen, what brings you to take the train too?" Qin Suisui asked, cracking sunflower seeds as she looked at Liang Qi, who had finished making his bed and climbed down.
Liang Qi smiled and said, "I was originally going to Yunnan Province to purchase goods. It was supposed to be a few days later, but since I ran into you guys, I decided to move the trip forward so we can look out for each other."
Qin Suisui nodded, but soon the motion sickness kicked in, and she vomited up the sunflower seeds she had just eaten. Pei Jiuyan fetched water to wipe her face and rinse her mouth. Qin Suisui then took out a motion sickness pill from her bag, took it, and fell asleep.
She felt extremely dizzy, and with the swaying of the green train and the effects of motion sickness medication, she quickly fell asleep.
Inside the carriage, Pei Jiuyan and the others remained silent. Only after her breathing became even and deep did Liang Qi frown, looking at her somewhat pale face: "Has she always been like this?"
Pei Jiuyan nodded: "Even the motion sickness medicine didn't work. This trip was better than last year's trip to Changbai Mountain."
Liang Qi nodded and said nothing more.
The three of them were either sleeping or reading.
Qin Suisui slept until noon. Just as lunchtime arrived, the train stopped briefly at a small station for five minutes.
Qin Suisui was awakened by the commotion outside the window. People were getting on and off the train, and some daring ones were putting steamed buns, cornbread, cucumbers, and other easily portable fruits in their pockets and selling them to passengers through the window. If they were caught, they would run away with their pockets in their hands before they could even collect the money.
Qin Suisui got up groggily and found that only Jia Zhenzhen was in the car.
Seeing that she was awake, Jia Zhenzhen quickly got up and touched her face:
"Sui Sui, you're awake? Are you feeling better? Are you still feeling unwell?"
Qin Suisui nodded. After sleeping for a while, she felt better. It was probably because the car had stopped that her motion sickness had subsided a lot.
"Where are they?"
No sooner had he finished speaking than the carriage door opened, and Pei Jiuyan returned first, carrying a pot of hot water in one hand and a cloth bag in the other.
Seeing that Qin Suisui had woken up, he quickly put his things down and, just like Jia Zhenzhen, reached out to touch her face and then her head, his eyes full of heartache: "Are you still feeling unwell, my wife?"
Qin Suisui shook her head, looking at the cloth bag: "What's this?"
"When I went to get hot water just now, there was an old man selling sweet potatoes he grew himself. They looked very fresh, probably just dug up, so I bought some. Don't you like to eat these?"
As he spoke, he opened the cloth bag, revealing seven or eight clean and juicy jicama. Qin Suisui's eyes lit up. In her hometown, these jicama are called sweet potatoes, but they are different from regular sweet potatoes. They are irregularly shaped like large spinning tops or flat spheres, varying in size. The outer skin is light yellow or light brown. After peeling off the thin skin, the inside is white flesh, like a piece of carefully polished white jade, full of moisture and with a very refreshing taste.
Qin Suisui especially loved eating these sweet potatoes, so her family had specially set aside a small plot in their vegetable garden to grow them. Every October when the sweet potatoes ripened, they almost always became Qin Suisui's after-dinner fruit.
Since arriving on Qiongtan Island, she seemed to have never eaten sweet potatoes, so seeing them now brought her great joy.
She happily took one out of the bag, and Pei Jiuyan smiled and said, "It's a little muddy on it. I'll take it to wash it and peel it for you when I get back."
When Pei Jiuyan returned, the train had already started moving. Liang Qi also returned with the bearded Liu. When he saw Qin Suisui was awake, he smiled and handed her the bag in his hand: "Awake? Are you still feeling unwell? Here, have some oranges."
Looking at the bag of oranges on the table, there were at least ten of them, all greenish-yellow, and they looked delicious.
"Where did you get these oranges? And so many of them!" It's no wonder Qin Suisui was curious; these days, fruit is scarce, let alone such fresh and juicy fruit.
Da Liu hadn't left yet. He was holding another bag in his hand, and he handed it to Qin Suisui with a smile, his tone extremely light and friendly: "Of course I went to buy it. The boss said you get terribly carsick, and luckily I have some brothers here, so I specially went to a fellow villager's house to buy oranges. I almost missed my train!"
"And this bag of snacks is for you guys too." After he finished speaking, he ignored Liang Qi's warning look and handed the things directly to Qin Suisui, then greeted Liang Qi, "Boss, I'm going now. Call me if you need anything."
After saying that, he staggered away.
Seemingly worried that Pei Jiuyan might misunderstand, Liang Qi glanced at him, but to her surprise, Pei Jiuyan's expression didn't change. Instead, he smiled and teased, "You didn't just buy oranges and snacks and forget to buy lunch, did you? We didn't pack any for you this morning!"
Liang Qi laughed: "Look at you, do you think I'd fight you for food?" As he spoke, he pulled out a few pancakes and eggs from his pocket.
Even with the private room door closed, you can still smell the aroma of various foods wafting out during lunchtime.
Qin Suisui ate two oranges and a fist-sized sweet potato, which made her feel much better. Under Pei Jiuyan's coercion, she ate half a bowl of claypot rice, two shrimp dumplings, and a few pieces of taro cake.
Having slept all morning, she was no longer sleepy. Fortunately, Pei Jiuyan had prepared hot water, so she simply took out the tea leaves she had brought, threw some into her military water bottle, and brewed a refreshing cup of green tea. Taking a sip now and then could help relieve her motion sickness.
Upon smelling the fragrance, Liang Qi raised an eyebrow and asked, "Ten-Mile Fragrance?"
Qin Suisui laughed when she saw that he could tell just by smelling it: "You know so much? You can tell just by smelling it?"
Liang Qi smiled and said, "That's right. We've had a tea supply chain since last year. After drinking it a lot, you can tell just by smelling it, right?"
"Quick, give me some too."
