Chapter 45: Money, Kids, Husband Not Home

Chapter 45 Rich, Has Kids, Husband Away

Qin Suisui held a slice of watermelon, staring blankly at him: "Oh right! I almost forgot! What time is it? Is it almost time?"

Pei Jiuyan raised his hand to look at his watch: "There's still more than half an hour, we'll make it."

Qin Suisui then noticed that he was wearing the Omega men's watch that his parents had sent him as a wedding gift. She had never seen him wear it before, and she wondered when he had secretly started wearing it. Qin Suisui quietly smiled.

Seeing the sweet and affectionate couple, Grandma Mai was happy for them. Knowing they were in a hurry to leave, she quickly used a bucket to lift the large watermelon that she had just picked and soaked in the well, and stuffed it into Pei Jiuyan's arms: "This watermelon was chosen by Sui Sui. Take it back and eat it. Come back to Grandma's house to pick more after you've finished eating!"

Pei Jiuyan was unusually at a loss. Not taking a single needle or thread from the masses was his principle, but this was the one his wife had chosen. When he saw Qin Suisui wink at him, Pei Jiuyan understood that his wife must have secretly given him money, so he calmly picked up the watermelon.

When another watermelon was offered to Su Yunyi, she refused to accept it. Mainly, she lived in the educated youth settlement, which was inconvenient, and today was also the first time she had interacted with Grandma Mai. She had already eaten a lot of watermelon and jelly at Grandma Mai's house, and she didn't want to take such a big advantage. She only asked the old lady to cut her a slice.

Grandma Mai didn't insist, and they continued to visit each other frequently, which naturally deepened their friendship.

On the way back, Qin Suisui rode a women's bicycle with Zanzan on the back, while Pei Jiuyan rode another men's bicycle, carrying a big watermelon and three bowls of cold noodles given by Grandma Mai. The family arrived home, put their things away, and then each carried a small bucket and headed straight for the beach.

This was Qin Suisui's first time going beachcombing at night, and also the first time the family of three had gone out to beachcombing independently together. All three of them were quite excited.

It was already 6:30, and the sun was still reluctant to set, but the light was no longer as intense as during the day, only making the sea shimmer with golden light.

The beach was already crowded with people. Having lived by the sea for a long time, they seemed to be able to easily find the patterns of high and low tides, and always managed to time it perfectly, welcoming the gifts from the sea when the tide receded.

Because Qin Suisui had previously mentioned that Grandma Mai's oyster sauce was exceptionally delicious and wanted to dig up more oysters to ask her to make some for her, Pei Jiuyan directly led the mother and son to the rocky beach he frequented to shuck oysters.

Peeling oysters requires skill and finesse, but Qin Suisui lacked the patience. After a couple of tries, she either broke the shell or tore the meat apart. Even Zan Zan did it better than her. Getting impatient, she threw down her tools, ran to a shallow puddle next to the rocks, rolled up her trousers, and prepared to perform a "miracle."

Before she could even sneak a little water out of the pool in her space to "fish," Pei Jiuyan jumped down from the rocks with a "whoosh," walked over to her in a few steps, bent down, and pulled down her trouser leg.

Qin Suisui frowned: "What are you doing? Your pants are all wet!"

Pei Jiuyan touched his nose: "I'll help you wash it when we get back. Don't wear it so high... it doesn't look good."

Qin Suisui glanced at him sideways, feeling that Pei Jiuyan had become strange ever since she returned from her hospital stay.

But since her pants were already soaked, she didn't care. After Pei Jiuyan returned to the rocks to pluck oysters, she began to sneak into the pool. Sure enough, after a while, the surface of the shallow puddle began to ripple. Qin Suisui reached in and grabbed something slippery. She was so frightened that she threw it at Pei Jiuyan, yelling, "Ahhh! A snake! I touched a snake! I'm dirty!"

Pei Jiuyan was startled by her sudden action and quickly stepped on the thing she threw at him. Once it was firmly in place, he couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Don't be afraid, this isn't a snake, it's an eel. I'll make you eel rice when we get back tonight."

Upon hearing the word "eel," Zan Zan immediately dropped his little shovel and ran over excitedly, his eyes shining: "Wow! Mom, you're amazing! You actually caught an eel!"

Qin Suisui patted her chest, still shaken: "I thought it was a snake! It was terrifying! It's alright, everyone keep going. We absolutely have to have a seafood feast tonight!" She raised her right hand in a gesture of encouragement.

Zan Zan also raised her hand, imitating her: "We absolutely have to have a seafood feast tonight!"

After saying that, she looked at Pei Jiuyan and gestured for her father to do it too.

Pei Jiuyan chuckled and was about to speak when Xiao Sheng ran over, covered in sweat: "Commander, something's happened over there. Battalion Commander Chi and Battalion Commander Song have already gone there."

Pei Jiuyan's brows furrowed, and a fierce aura suddenly erupted from his body.

He turned to look at Qin Suisui, who had naturally overheard their conversation. She quickly waved to him, saying, "If you have something to do, go ahead and do it. Work is more important. Zanzan and I will pick up some more things and then head back."

Pei Jiuyan nodded. The research and development had reached a critical stage, and making a mistake at this time would indeed be troublesome. He could only pat Qin Suisui's head apologetically: "Go back after you finish picking up the food. Make sure to close the doors and windows at night. I've put all the snacks and fruits in the cupboard. Take care of yourself. I might not be back for a few days."

Qin Suisui nodded. She had gotten used to this life of having plenty of money, a child, and her husband not being home.

After Pei Jiuyan left, Qin Suisui, now even more unrestrained, began recklessly catching seafood in the shallow puddles. The water released from the pool had already attracted a group of mantis shrimp. These creatures are delicious but difficult to peel. Qin Suisui selected about ten palm-sized ones and put them into a bucket, while throwing the rest into her spatial storage.

She walked a few steps forward along the shallow puddle and found several more squid swimming towards her. The water was already up to Qin Suisui's knees, making it difficult to catch them with her bare hands. So Qin Suisui took Zan Zan's empty bucket and scooped up seven or eight small squids, as if scooping sand, along with two octopuses.

Qin Suisui got excited; she had found a new way to go beachcombing! Using a bucket to scoop out the seafood meant she wouldn't have to worry about catching any random mollusks, and the harvest would be even greater. To make it even more effective, she added some pool water to the bucket and left it at the bottom for a minute. When she lifted it up, three arm-length groupers, along with a small group of prawns and abalone, suddenly swam in!

Good heavens, these three groupers alone are worth a fortune. Qin Suisui glanced around and quickly put everything into her spatial storage, leaving only a small grouper, a dozen prawns, and a few abalone outside.

As if encouraged, Qin Suisui once again sank the bucket to the bottom of the water. Looking at the shallow sea in front of her, she remembered that when she was in class, the book said that the waters around Qiongtan Island belonged to the South China Sea and were rich in large and small yellow croakers, orchid crabs and mud crabs. Why had she never encountered them?

Muttering to himself, he lifted the bucket in his hand, revealing seven or eight small yellow croakers, a pair of large yellow croakers, a bunch of orchid crabs and mud crabs fighting with their pincers, and a pair of shellfish he didn't recognize at the bottom.

"Good heavens! It even has a wish-granting function?" She couldn't tell if these fish were shallow-sea creatures or not, and the function of this spatial pool was already incredible to her.

Thinking back to the original book, in another ten years or so, the country's economy will get better and better and more open. If the policies allow, she might be able to contract a piece of sea area to raise seafood with this cheat code!

"Sui Sui! Sui Sui! What are you doing in the sea! Get back up quickly! It'll be dangerous if a wave comes! Get back up!" Aunt Tang's anxious voice came from behind. Qin Sui Sui came to her senses and realized that she was already far from the shore. The seawater was already up to her knees. If a wave really came, she would lose her life here.

She quickly picked up three small yellow croakers and a few crabs and put them into her bucket, then threw the rest into her spatial storage. After that, she carried the bucket and walked briskly towards the shore.

She had barely stepped ashore when a wave half her height crashed over her back, soaking her clothes.

Aunt Tang grabbed her and pulled her a few steps ashore, scolding, "I was catching razor clams over there when I ran into Ayan. He said you and Zanzan were here, so I rushed over. I didn't expect to see you running into the sea! That's too dangerous!"

Qin Suisui was still shaken. She showed Tang's sister-in-law the contents of her bucket: "I was just too excited and lost my mind. I definitely won't do it again next time." Qin Suisui was a very receptive person. Once she learned her lesson, she would never do it again.

"Wow! There's actually a little..." Aunt Tang exclaimed in surprise, then quickly covered her mouth, unable to hide the joy in her eyes. She secretly gave Qin Suisui a thumbs up, then "pat pat" stepped over the seawater and pulled a piece of seaweed to cover it.

She then showed her bucket to Qin Suisui and whispered, "I had a good haul today too. I picked up five sea urchins, more than a pound of scallops, a few blue crabs, and more than two pounds of razor clams. Come on, when we get back, your sister-in-law will make you and Zanzan some sea urchin fried rice and some garlic scallops!"

Qin Suisui shook her bucket: "Sister-in-law, let's fry these three small yellow croakers too, and eat the abalone and all these shellfish!"

Aunt Tang hesitated for a moment: "These small yellow croakers aren't cheap, are we just going to eat them like this?"

Qin Suisui laughed: "What else can we do? Sneak it on the black market? That's too dangerous!"

Qin Suisui wasn't short of money, so she didn't need to take the risk. She also didn't need the fish. With the space pool water, she could catch more if she wanted to eat. Besides, she had already thrown the remaining yellow croakers into her space. She discovered that the seafood in the pool reproduced very quickly, and there might be a bunch of small yellow croakers in there soon!

Sister-in-law Tang thought about it and agreed: "Okay! Then your brother Guo and I will take advantage of you and have some of these yellow croakers too! We can keep the rest separately and steam them at home for lunch tomorrow. It's not much trouble. I'll teach you how to make the sauce later."

Qin Suisui nodded happily. Sister-in-law Tang had to work during the day, so she and Zanzan could only mooch a meal at night.

Zan Zan was still sticking his little bottom out on the rocks, shucking oysters. The little guy was patient; he shucked them all by himself, and together with what Pei Jiu Yan had just shucked, there was already almost half a bucket full.

Qin Suisui couldn't help but praise, "Baby, you're amazing! You managed to shuck so many oysters! You're much better than Mommy!" Zan Zan had been praised by his mother many times, but each time he still felt embarrassed, his little face turning a dark red, which made him especially cute.

We ate dinner at Sister Tang's house that evening. Sister Tang is a great cook, and the seafood was freshly caught, making it even fresher. The mother and son ate until their bellies were round, and then they went home, supporting their bellies.

They ate dinner late tonight, and after eating, the mother and son took a walk in the yard to digest their food. After Qin Suisui coaxed Zanzan to sleep, she was so sleepy that she fell asleep right next to Zanzan's bed.

Qin Suisui woke up, her arms numb, not knowing how long she had slept. She remembered the seafood in the kitchen and realized she had forgotten to add water from the space pool. Worried that the seafood would die and affect the taste, Qin Suisui ran back to the kitchen in the dark and added some water from the space pool to each of the two buckets.

She had just come out of the kitchen when she suddenly heard a noise coming from the direction of the master bedroom upstairs. Pei Jiuyan wasn't home, and Zanzan was asleep, so why was there a noise in the master bedroom? Her hair stood on end instantly, and she woke up from her drowsiness.

Whether it was because of the nourishment from the stream in the space or because the night was exceptionally quiet, she could hear it clearly from downstairs. It was a sound coming from the master bedroom window; someone was opening the master bedroom window from the outside!
