Chapter 51 Pei Jiuyan Gets a Nosebleed

Chapter 51 Pei Jiuyan Gets a Nosebleed

Alarm bells rang in Qin Suisui's mind. She was dressed like that that day, and even her own mother might not recognize her. How could Sun Ruwen possibly recognize her?

She hurriedly pointed to the wall: "My house was burgled in the middle of the night, so I went to the glass factory to buy some broken glass. I came back right after I bought it. What's wrong? Where did you see me?"

Sun Ruwen's eyes held a probing look: "You only bought glass, nothing else?"

Qin Suisui pretended to know nothing, her expression honest and straightforward: "I even ate at a state-run restaurant."

Sun Ruwen chuckled, then stood up and looked at the fence in the yard: "Hmm, raising it a bit higher and adding some broken glass would make it much safer."

“But it’s not really safe for just you and the child at home all the time. Your husband’s work is also… sigh, there’s nothing I can do. Well, there’s a villager in the countryside whose dog is about to have puppies. I’ll go to his house when I get back and see him. I’ll bring you one of the puppies after they’re born.”

Qin Suisui's eyes lit up: "Really?" Ever since the last time she was robbed, she had wanted to raise a dog, but in this era, food was expensive and people didn't have enough to eat, so few families kept dogs. She was thinking of going to the black market to see if there were any puppies after she returned from the Northeast.

Sun Ruwen smiled and nodded: "Of course, when has your brother ever lied to you?"

Just as Qin Suisui was about to happily agree, a cold, stern voice suddenly came from outside the door:

"I had no idea my wife had an older brother! Sui Sui, your brother-in-law is here, why don't you introduce him to me?"

Qin Suisui looked up and saw Pei Jiuyan walking in with a military uniform, his expression cold and aloof.

She was a little confused. Didn't Pei Jiuyan meet Sun Ruwen last time? He almost strangled her to death. How could he not recognize her after such a short time?

However, she quickly stood up and introduced them to each other: "Ayan, this is Sun Ruwen, my older brother whom I knew when I was a child. He is now a sent-down youth in the Hongqiding Brigade next door."

"Brother Ruwen, this is my lover, Pei Jiuyan."

Sun Ruwen raised an eyebrow slightly beneath her gold-rimmed glasses and extended her hand to Pei Jiuyan: "Commander Pei."

Pei Jiuyan's deep, unwavering eyes remained unmoved. He raised his hand and gently touched Sun Ruwen's outstretched hand, then quickly lowered it. He raised his other hand, which was carrying something, and asked, "Would you like to stay for dinner, Educated Youth Sun?"

Sun Ruwen pushed up his glasses with one hand, smiled slightly, and said, "No, I have some things to do back at the educated youth settlement." Then he turned to Qin Suisui and said, "Sister Suisui, I'll be leaving now. Those pastries are all your favorites, so eat as much as you want. I'll buy you more when you're done."

Qin Suisui was a little confused as to why the atmosphere had suddenly changed. Hearing Sun Ruwen say this, she nodded with a bewildered look, "Okay, thank you, Brother Ruwen."

Sun Ruwen chuckled, took a couple of steps, then turned back: "By the way, I have an acquaintance who's going to the Northeast in a couple of days. There are a lot of good medicinal herbs there. Do you want me to bring some back for you?"

Qin Suisui couldn't help but laugh. When she was a child, she was obsessed with studying "poisons". Sun Ruwen often accompanied her to collect poisonous herbs. Even after she went to Guangzhou, he would send her some rare medicinal materials from time to time.

"Haha, Ruwen, you still remember? But no need, I haven't researched those things in a long time, it's not convenient now..."

Sun Ruwen waved his hand at her: "Okay, I got it. I'll take care of it."

After seeing Sun Ruwen to the door, Qin Suisui turned around and saw Pei Jiuyan standing at the door, holding the bag from earlier, looking at her with a deep gaze.

Qin Suisui asked in confusion, "What's wrong? What did you buy? Why didn't you take it inside?"

Pei Jiuyan then forced a cold smile and said, "Uncle Lin bought some beef today and made a cold braised beef salad. He brought some back for me."

Qin Suisui's eyes lit up, and she quickly ran over to take the bag from her hand. She opened the aluminum lunchbox inside and found a whole box of cold braised beef. There were even cilantro and red chili peppers in it. The beef looked glossy and delicious, thanks to the sauce and minced garlic.

She couldn't resist picking up a slice and putting it in her mouth, then looked up at Pei Jiuyan with delight: "It's Jiangcheng-style cold beef salad! Uncle Lin's cooking is really good!"

After saying that, he picked up another piece and held it in front of him.

Seeing the light in her eyes and the glistening corners of her lips, Pei Jiuyan's face, which had been covered in ice, gradually melted. He opened his mouth and ate the beef in one bite. Whether it was intentional or not, his lips brushed against Qin Suisui's fingertips.

Qin Suisui was startled and quickly put her hands behind her back, secretly rubbing her thumb against the part he had touched, feeling her ears getting a little hot.

Pei Jiuyan nodded as if he knew nothing: "Yes, I've already learned it. If you like it, I'll buy more beef next time and cook it for you."

Qin Suisui nodded happily as she recalled the whole cow in the space.

After she finished eating the beef, Pei Jiuyan took out a letter of introduction from his pocket and handed it to her: "Here is a letter of introduction. Take it. You may have to get up early tomorrow to go to the city airport to catch a flight."

Qin Suisui frowned: "What about Zan Zan?"

"Donglin and Alai will be coming to eat in a little while. After they finish eating, take him back to the dormitory."

Qin Suisui nodded, but she still felt a little sorry for the child. She and Pei Jiuyan were going out for so long, and little Zanzan had to stay at home by herself.

Seeing her like this, Pei Jiuyan knew what she was thinking. He helplessly patted her head and said, "Zanzan is used to it. Sometimes when we go to sea, we stay for ten days or half a month, sometimes even a month. You don't need to worry."

But after he said that, Qin Suisui felt even more guilty. If a child is like a mother who has no mother at all, then what use is she as a mother?

Pei Jiuyan was both amused and exasperated, but in the end he still praised her and personally comforted Qin Suisui, which made her feel a little better.

For dinner, we had cold beef salad brought back from Uncle Lin's place, as well as steamed grouper, stir-fried clams, garlic mantis shrimp, spicy crab, and the small bucket of oysters that we had originally planned to take to Grandma Mai to make oyster sauce.

Because they couldn't drink alcohol, they drank the whole case of Arctic Ocean soda that Qin Suisui had brought back earlier.

On the first night without her child, Qin Suisui was still a little unaccustomed to not having to put the baby to sleep. After washing up and quickly packing her luggage, she felt excited thinking about seeing her parents soon. She rolled around on the bed several times, not even noticing that the buttons on her chest had come undone. She just lay on the bed in a starfish position, staring blankly at the top of the mosquito net.

When Pei Jiuyan returned to his room after washing up, he saw the person on the bed and quickly looked away as if his eyes had been burned.

Unaware that she was being seductive, Qin Suisui sat up abruptly when he entered, looking at him excitedly: "How long does it take for your private jet to fly to Liaoning Province? And how long does it take to get from Liaoning Province to Jilin Province? Do you think I'll be able to see my parents tomorrow?"

Pei Jiuyan looked at the top of the mosquito net and answered her seriously, "We probably won't see each other tomorrow. It takes less than five hours to fly from Qiongtan Island to Liaoning Province, but it takes more than ten hours by train from Lian Port in Liaoning Province to my parents' place."

Qin Suisui let out a disappointed "Oh," and slumped down on the bed like a puppy. Pei Jiuyan saw her disappointment and lowered his head to say something to comfort her, but his eyes caught the glimpse of her chest that she accidentally revealed when she lay down, the ups and downs captivating her eyes.

With a loud "boom" in his mind, Pei Jiuyan felt as if he had been bombarded, a wave of heat running up and down his body before rushing straight to his head.

"Oh no! Why is your nose bleeding? Quick, quick, lower your head a little!" Qin Suisui had just looked up when she saw blood streaming from Pei Jiuyan's high nose. She was startled and quickly jumped up to help, muttering, "Have you been too busy these past few days, working overtime and getting a sore throat? It's hot on Qiongtan Island. After we get back from the Northeast, I'll brew you some herbal tea every day..."

Pei Jiuyan took a step back, dodging her outstretched hand. He quickly wiped the blood from his nose with the towel he had just used to dry his hair, then quickly took it down and used it to cover a certain part of his body. His tone was somewhat incoherent: "You you you... don't come any closer, I'm not... I'm fine, just a little feverish, I'll go wash up." After saying that, he rushed out of the room as if he were escaping.

Qin Suisui watched him dash away with a puzzled look, muttering to herself, "He's a grown man, what's there to be embarrassed about having a nosebleed? Why is he hiding?"

It was already June, and even at night the temperature was high. Pei Jiuyan had been gone for a long time and hadn't returned. Qin Suisui was getting sleepy from waiting. Just as she was about to fall asleep, she felt someone lie down next to her. Smelling that familiar, cool fragrance, Qin Suisui instinctively moved away until she was pressed against that "ice block," muttering, "So cool..." before finally drifting off to sleep.

Pei Jiuyan: ...

Looking at the person clinging to his arm like an octopus, with their two straight, long legs wrapped around his, he felt unusually tired.

Helpless, he could only gently lift the person clinging to him with one hand. Afraid of waking her, he carefully moved her to the corner of the wall, dragged the electric fan over, and turned it on. The cool breeze was refreshing, but it couldn't dispel the restlessness on Pei Jiuyan's body.
