Chapter 99 Liang Qi's True Identity
"Brother Ruwen, isn't it fun to lie to me like this?"
Qin Suisui looked up and met the astonished gaze opposite her. A cold smile appeared on her lips. She turned around, picked up the piglet from the ground, and left.
Liang Qi's eyes seemed to have been struck by a heavy hammer. He quickly stepped forward, wanting to grab Qin Suisui's hand, but Pei Jiuyan swiftly pushed it away.
The sound was very loud, but Qin Suisui didn't turn her head.
Liang Qi quickened her pace, wanting to explain, "Sister Sui Sui, I didn't mean to..."
He wanted to tell Qin Suisui that he didn't do it on purpose, and that he had lost his identity and freedom since he was 14 years old.
But before he could finish speaking, Qin Suisui's cold voice suddenly rang out: "This is the second time."
Liang Qi felt as if she had fallen into an ice cave, and stood there stunned.
When he was 14, he told Qin Suisui that he went out to buy her pastries, but his mother suddenly took him away. After that, she didn't reply to his letters or answer his calls for two long years.
For the first time, his abrupt departure pushed her away for two years.
So what is this second time?
He believed that, given Pei Jiuyan's stingy nature, even if he had long since discovered his identity, he would never have told Sui Sui. He was so stingy that he couldn't stand Sui Sui having too much contact with any man, so how did she recognize him?
Liang Qi turned around in a fit of anger, saw Wen Lian not far away, paused for a moment, and then smiled weakly.
Qin Suisui carried two piglets and walked briskly, with Pei Jiuyan silently following behind her. After walking for several miles, he suddenly grabbed her arm and asked, "What are you angry about?"
Qin Suisui turned around, her beautiful eyes burning, her crimson lips spitting out words like a machine gun: "You knew his identity all along, didn't you? You wouldn't let me meet him alone because you knew his identity and thought he would bring me danger, didn't you? Pei Jiuyan! I thought we were husband and wife, and that even if we weren't 100% honest, we shouldn't hide these things from each other! I really misjudged you! Humph!"
Qin Suisui angrily stomped hard on Pei Jiuyan's foot. Pei Jiuyan winced in pain and subconsciously loosened his grip. Qin Suisui seized the opportunity, slipped away like an eel, and angrily continued walking forward with the piglet on her back.
Pei Jiuyan pinched the bridge of his nose. Shouldn't he be the one angry about this? How come she's the one who's angry now? Damn it, hearing her say "husband and wife are one" actually made him a little happy, and he couldn't be angry at all!
Pei Jiuyan sighed, looking at the figure rushing forward like a cannonball, and couldn't understand how her thin arms could carry two piglets weighing dozens of kilograms so far!
He was both annoyed and amused. He took a few big steps forward and grabbed her arm: "Honey, it's my fault. I should have told you sooner. Please don't be angry anymore, okay?"
Qin Suisui ignored him, turned around and was about to leave again with the piglet on her back when Pei Jiuyan quickly grabbed her other arm. This time he used a little force, and Qin Suisui immediately hissed and gasped.
Sensing something was wrong, Pei Jiuyan rolled up her sleeve and saw that her once fair and flawless arm was now covered in bruises and abrasions.
Pei Jiuyan's eyes darkened: "Did he do it?"
Qin Suisui was both annoyed and amused: "Commander Pei, open your eyes and look carefully, this is just a scratch!"
Pei Jiuyan was also angry: "Your arm is injured so badly, yet you can still carry the piglet for miles. You're really amazing!" While complaining, he picked up the person and the pig and carried them home.
Qin Suisui struggled wildly on his back: "Put me down! I don't want you to carry me! We're not that close!"
Pei Jiuyan chuckled; she was still angry! He slapped her on the bottom and said irritably, "Is it possible that I'm preventing you from seeing him because I've noticed he has ulterior motives towards you?"
Qin Suisui was taken aback. Back when they returned from the deserted island and she saw Sun Ruwen beat up Zhou Zecheng, she had wondered if Sun Ruwen might have those kinds of feelings for her. But he had denied it then. So Qin Suisui never considered it again. After all, Sun Ruwen was just a childhood playmate to her, and she assumed he felt the same way. No matter how close they were as children, after so many years apart, even with occasional correspondence, they had inevitably grown distant.
So when she first met Liang Qi, she felt that he was familiar, but she couldn't remember who he was. Now that she thinks about it, she was really stupid. Liang Qi was the boss of the black market, and Sun Ruwen's stepfather was also involved in the black market in Guangzhou. How come she never made that connection?
Pei Jiuyan smiled slightly. In fact, he knew very well why his wife had never discovered Liang Qi's identity. It was simply because she didn't care about Sun Ruwen and "Liang Qi". People who are not important are easily forgotten, even if they seem strange when they meet. That's why she never found out.
If she hadn't seen Wenlian today, she probably wouldn't have noticed yet...
Thinking of Wen Lian, Pei Jiuyan frowned again without making a sound.
Qin Suisui has a fiery temper; once she gets angry, she walks around like a madwoman, but she quickly calms down. Plus, Pei Jiuyan spent the rest of the journey coaxing her, so by the time they got home, all her anger had dissipated.
The two little pigs in the sack had been inside for a while and kept twisting their bodies and grunting.
Pei Jiuyan paused in applying medicine to Qin Suisui, raised an eyebrow at her, and asked, "Are you planning to raise pigs at home?"
Qin Suisui choked, "Um... I bought it for the brigade, I have to deliver it to them later." The Guangmingding Brigade does raise task pigs. Pei Jiuyan nodded, not knowing whether he believed her or not, but he didn't ask any more questions.
Qin Suisui quickly changed the subject: "By the way, why did you suddenly come back today?"
"The mission is almost over. Dong Lin was injured, so he came back early."
"What? Brother Donglin is injured? Where is he injured? How serious is it?"
Pei Jiuyan nodded: "It's my left forearm that's injured. I applied medicine to the wound at sea, but the bleeding wouldn't stop, so I rushed back and sent it to the city hospital." It was because of this that Pei Jiuyan met Qin Suisui when he returned.
Qin Suisui had always assumed that Pei Jiuyan and his team were just doing some technical work at sea, she hadn't expected it to be so dangerous. But it was just an arm? Bleeding uncontrollably? How come it looks so similar to when Wen Lian was injured?
She frowned: "Has the doctor examined you? Did they say what the cause was?"
Pei Jiuyan shook his head: "The cause hasn't been found yet. I estimate he'll have to stay in the hospital for two days. Yunlai is still at the hospital watching over him. I have to go there early tomorrow morning to take over his shift."
Qin Suisui nodded, ran into the kitchen (actually, she entered her spatial dimension), and took out a pig leg: "Then hurry up and process this pig leg, remove the hair. I'll take the piglets to the brigade, and we'll stew the pig leg tonight and send it to Brother Donglin first thing tomorrow morning."
Pei Jiuyan glanced at the sky outside and frowned: "Do you want me to come with you?"
Qin Suisui waved her hand: "No need, I made an appointment with the brigade leader. He's waiting for me at the village entrance. I'll be right back!" As if afraid that Pei Jiuyan would say another word, she picked up the piglet and ran off.
Pei Jiuyan shook his head and helplessly took the pig leg to remove the hair.
Qin Suisui certainly wouldn't go to the Bright Peak Brigade. She rode her bicycle to a secluded spot and went straight into her spatial dimension.
There were no pigsties in the space, but several cattle pens. The calf of the cow that had given birth earlier had already been sold and was happily running around on the grassland every day. This cattle pen was now empty. Qin Suisui measured the height and found it to be about a meter high, which was enough! So she simply took it out of the burlap sack and carried it inside.
The cattle pen was large, especially for piglets this small; there was more than enough space. The piglets, freed from their sacks, kicked off and ran around the pen.
Qin Suisui ran to the vegetable garden, picked a few cucumbers and gourds, and threw in some bananas. After thinking for a moment, she ran to the storeroom, took some cornmeal, sorghum flour, and other coarse flours, mixed them together, poured them into a basin, and put it in the pigpen. She also used another clean basin to scoop some stream water and put it aside. After preparing the food and drink, she left the space.
On her way home to the family compound, Qin Suisui frowned and pondered. Unlike cows, sheep, and chicks, piglets couldn't graze and eat insects on their own. They needed to be fed every day. If she forgot one day, the pigs would starve. She needed to think of a way. She also needed to plant some sweet potatoes. She noticed that the pigs in the brigade were fed sweet potato leaves. Sweet potatoes could also be given to pigs.
When he got home, Pei Jiuyan had already cleaned the pig and was stewing it. At that moment, he was shirtless, squatting in the yard, cutting shrimp with scissors. The last rays of the setting sun slanted down, painting his wheat-colored shoulders and back with a sweet orange hue, making him look extremely tempting.
Seeing Qin Suisui return, he put down the scissors, stood up, helped her push her bicycle into the yard, and poured her a glass of water, handing it to her: "Are you hot? Rest for a while, I'll finish cutting the shrimp and then go cook dinner. How about some salt and pepper shrimp, stir-fried squid, and pork trotter soup for dinner?"
All of these are her favorite dishes, so how could they not be good?
Qin Suisui stared at his well-defined abs, watching the sweat trickle down the grooves between them, and swallowed hard: "Isn't the pig's trotter soup supposed to be brought to Brother Donglin tomorrow?"
Pei Jiuyan smiled, but said very sarcastically, "Giving him one bowl is enough. He's already so fat, eating less won't hurt him."
Qin Suisui felt embarrassed. Compared to Pei Jiuyan and Song Yunlai, Chi Donglin was indeed more robust, but not fat... But whatever he said, it wasn't like he was cutting back on her food...
Qin Suisui washed her hands, grabbed a small pair of scissors, and prepared to cut shrimp together. Pei Jiuyan grabbed her by the collar and pulled her away, saying, "Go away, go play somewhere else. If you pinch your hand again, you'll make a fuss with me tonight."
Qin Suisui didn't notice what he said. Instead, she grabbed his arm, stared at a red mark on his arm, and her expression suddenly turned serious: "Pei Jiuyan, how did you get this?"
