Chapter 11 Why is it so hot tonight?

Chapter 11 Why is it so hot tonight?

The meal was a pleasant one for both host and guests. Everyone knew that Sister Tang was a good cook, and Pei Jiuyan and the others had eaten together many times because of Zan Zan.

Qin Suisui ate it for the first time, and her eyes lit up. Aunt Tang's cooking skills were no worse than her own housekeeper's! If it weren't for her injury and Pei Jiuyan's supervision that prevented her from eating too much spicy food, she would have been even happier today!

After seeing the guests off, Qin Suisui prepared to tidy up the table. After all, they had been busy, and she couldn't just do nothing. But when she turned around, she was stunned to see so many empty bowls and plates on the table. How could there be so many? Did they eat all that?

Pei Jiuyan instructed Zanzan: "Zanzan, go help your mother wash the newly bought toiletries and take them to the bathroom upstairs." Zanzan nodded happily and ran in to work.

Pei Jiuyan also carried a kettle of hot water that was heating on the coal stove upstairs, and helped Qin Suisui fill a small bucket with cold water from the tap. He then helped Qin Suisui to the bathroom door, clearing his throat and asking, "Can you manage on your own? Do you need me...?"

"No need! I can do it! Thank you!"

Qin Suisui spoke those three sentences very loudly, then dashed into the bathroom, slammed the door shut, and locked it in one swift motion.

Pei Jiuyan touched his nose. Luckily, it was less than a centimeter away, and his nose would have been ruined.

Thinking of Qin Suisui's blushing face just now, he found it adorable again. He leaned against the door and smiled for a long time before slowing down his voice and speaking softly to the person inside, "I'm going to clean up downstairs. Zanzan will be waiting for you at the door. Take your time washing. Don't rush. Don't get the wound wet. If you need anything, just shout for him. When you're done, put the clothes in the dirty clothes basket next to you and I'll wash them."

Qin Suisui responded in a muffled voice, "Okay."

After taking a shower, Zanzan was indeed sitting about three meters away from the bathroom. When she saw her come out, she rushed over, helped her, and led her into the room, chattering like a little busybody: "Mommy, are you done showering? Did you secretly wet your wound?"

Qin Suisui was both amused and exasperated. Her wound had just been treated in her spatial dimension. The medicine left by her grandmother was of royal quality in the past, and it was extremely effective for such a minor scratch. She believed it would heal quickly.

When she entered the master bedroom, she discovered that the layout had been completely changed compared to the previous night.

Last night, the single bed was replaced with a handmade double bed, which looks like it's made of pine. At the foot of the bed is a brand-new six-door wardrobe with hanging and folding sections, and several drawers in the middle for underwear and valuables. One of the wardrobe doors even has a full-length mirror, which is very practical.

A dressing table was placed by the window next to the bed, on which were neatly arranged the porcelain bottle of Friendship brand snow cream they had bought from the department store that day, as well as a tin box of Wan Zi Qian Hong moisturizing cream. Other soaps, hair oil, shampoo, etc. had already been taken to the bathroom.

A desk and two chairs were placed side by side next to it. On one corner of the desk was a tin thermos with the character "喜" (happiness) printed on it. Next to it was a frosted glass water pitcher filled with cold water, which had a rattan outer shell and looked quite nice. It also came with two glasses, both of which were printed with the character "喜".

Qin Suisui smiled. How thoughtful of her to have both cold and hot water prepared.

Near the desk, there's a brand-new Watson brand floor fan in the corner. Near the door, there are three large packages piled up in the corner; these are things my parents sent, which I picked up from the post office today.

Qin Suisui opened the first package. Inside were two large cotton quilts, each with a four-piece set of bright red silk quilt covers embroidered with dragons and phoenixes, and another set of pink pure cotton quilt covers printed with peony patterns. There were also two sets of silk pajamas, one bright red and one champagne-colored, and one bright red and one navy blue set for Pei Jiuyan. There were also two pure wool blankets from Xinjiang, a pair of Suzhou embroidered pillows, and two pairs of silk pillowcases.

The second package contained some clothes, shoes, and skincare products that she had liked before, covering everything from winter to summer. She also bought a lot of new items, probably because it was hot all year round on Qiongtan Island, so she prepared more new summer dresses.

In the inside pocket of one of the wool coats, Qin Suisui found two bankbooks opened in her name, one with 50,000 yuan and the other with 80,000 yuan. In several other clothes with inner pockets, Qin Suisui found more than 4,000 yuan in cash and many national receipts. Her parents were afraid that she would suffer, so they tried to find ways to send money to her.

Qin Suisui wiped away her tears, put all the money and tickets into her spatial storage, and then silently opened the third package.

The third package was a little smaller than the previous two. Inside, in a velvet box, was a Plum Blossom brand women's watch, an Omega brand men's watch, and the rest were Qin Suisui's favorite foods. In addition to Jiangcheng's local sesame paste and hot dry noodles, there was also rice wine from Xiaoxian County, which Qin Suisui loved to use to cook small glutinous rice balls. There was also Panlong vegetable from Jingxian County, which could be eaten after steaming, and Yulu tea from Enxian County, which was a green tea that Qin Suisui loved to eat with pastries.

The rest were some local specialties such as shortbread, sesame candy, glutinous rice cakes, and snow dates. Food spoils easily, so Qin Suisui took out some of them. Thinking that Pei Jiuyan might like to drink tea, she also took out two boxes of Jade Dew Tea. She put the rest into her space. These were all carefully prepared by her parents. It was hot on Qiongtan Island and they would spoil easily, so she couldn't bear to waste any of them. She would take them out slowly later.

When Pei Jiuyan came in after washing up, he saw Qin Suisui standing by the wardrobe hanging clothes. The little girl looked particularly thin and pitiful standing in front of the big wardrobe.

Pei Jiuyan walked over, supporting her arm and leading her to the bed: "You're still injured, so just sit on the bed. I..." Before he could finish speaking, he saw that the little girl's usually vibrant face was now covered in tears. Her skin was fair, and her eyes turned red after crying for a little while, making her look pitiful.

Pei Jiuyan felt a sudden emptiness in his heart. His Adam's apple bobbed, and he realized his voice was a little hoarse when he spoke: "What's wrong? Are you homesick?"

It's not hard to guess. The little girl has never been away from her parents since she was a child. After suddenly experiencing such a change, traveling across the ocean to such a far place, suffering from seasickness and being hit by a donkey cart, she must miss home and her parents when she sees the things her parents sent.

Qin Suisui sniffed. She hadn't expected Pei Jiuyan to come in at this moment. She could tell he was very happy today. She didn't want to ruin his mood, and she was also afraid of being disliked right after arriving. She hurriedly wiped away her tears and said with a smile, "It's okay, I'm fine. It's an old problem. I cry when I see dust. I don't know if this package has been rolled in the mud. There's a layer of dust on the outside of the bag. It's a close call and it didn't stain my clothes and food!"

Pei Jiuyan didn't expose her, and nodded in agreement: "Yes, it is a bit dirty. I'll help you tidy up your things first, and then we'll take them out to wash and put them away in a while."

Qin Suisui nodded, and with Pei Jiuyan's help, climbed onto the bed, sat cross-legged on the bright red bed sheet, and watched him take out her clothes one by one, and then hang them in the wardrobe according to length and season.

When Pei Jiuyan got to the two sets of four-piece bedding, he paused, looked at the four-piece bedding on the bed, and then looked at Qin Suisui: "Should we change to the ones that Mom and Dad prepared?"

It was his oversight. The young girl's skin was delicate, and he had bought the most common coarse cotton fabric on the market. Although it was comfortable, it was far less comfortable than the silk and fine cotton fabric prepared by his parents-in-law. Qin Suisui looked at him somewhat confusedly, but quickly understood. She touched the quilt cover embroidered with mandarin ducks and shook her head: "It's okay, this is quite comfortable too. Besides, this was washed this afternoon, and the other two sets probably haven't been washed yet. We can wash them tomorrow and switch between them."

When Pei Jiuyan heard this, his head suddenly "boomed" and his face felt a little hot. Just when he didn't know how to hide his embarrassment, Zazan walked to the door of the room with a small pillow in his arms, knocked politely, looked at Qin Suisui, and said expectantly: "Mom, can I sleep with you tonight?"

Qin Suisui nodded with a smile, "Okay..."

"No! You're a three-year-old boy now, you need to learn to sleep by yourself! Besides, Mommy is injured, if you don't sleep soundly, you'll roll over on her. Go back to your room, close the door, and go to sleep!"

Qin Suisui's voice was interrupted and drowned out by Pei Jiuyan's cold voice. The light in Zanzan's eyes went out with a "snap," she said "oh," pouted her little mouth, and walked away listlessly.

The room fell silent for a moment. Pei Jiuyan turned around and saw Qin Suisui with her head down, clutching the mandarin duck pattern on the quilt, thinking about what might happen tonight. Qin Suisui was very nervous. Luckily, Zanzan came, and she wanted to use Zanzan as a shield...

Pei Jiuyan could easily see through her little scheme. Hadn't he also lost his composure because of this? So he pretended nothing had happened, put his things away, took an old quilt cover from the cabinet to use as a blanket, and lay down next to Qin Suisui: "Go to sleep quickly. Aren't we going to go beachcombing with Sister Tang tomorrow?"

Seeing that he didn't want to do anything else, Qin Suisui instantly cheered up. She pulled the bright red blanket over herself, turned her back to him, and lay down on her side, loudly replying, "Mmm! Let's go to sleep quickly, so we'll have energy to go beachcombing tomorrow!"

Pei Jiuyan turned off the light switch and silently curled his lips in the darkness. This brat, is she trying to subtly hint at something to him?

It was already quite hot on Qiongtan Island in May. Even just being covered by a blanket felt a bit stuffy. Qin Suisui kicked off the blanket while she was sleeping, revealing her fair and tender arms in short-sleeved pajamas. She swayed back and forth on the bright red blanket, making Pei Jiuyan afraid to look in that direction. He could only curl up his legs and shrink into a corner. There was a faint fragrance of the young girl in the air. Pei Jiuyan felt unbearably hot. Why was Qiongtan Island so hot this year?
