Chapter 133 It’s Mid-Autumn Festival, time for family reunion!

Chapter 133 Mid-Autumn Festival, a time for family reunion!

Actually, Song Yunlai didn't know why he was angry, but when he saw Liu Zhiqiang's expression just now, he instinctively felt something was wrong and didn't want Su Yunyi to get close to her.

But then I thought, what does it have to do with him? To be honest, they're not even that close.

When he got home, Chi Donglin was already awake. Seeing that Song Yunlai had indeed bought him two chickens, he was overjoyed and said, "Good brother! Next time you get poisoned and need to bleed, I'll buy you chickens too!"

"But why are there only two? You're being incredibly stingy!"

Song Yunlai glared at him: "Still eating? How much do you weigh? Your belly and mouth have really benefited from being around you! We've been training every day, how come you're the only one who hasn't lost weight?"

"Look at Ayan, she's been eating and drinking well at home these past few days, but she hasn't gained an ounce of fat!"

Song Yunlai's rambling made Chi Donglin's face turn red with anger, and he only stopped when he shouted that he would break off all ties with him.

For dinner, they naturally ate the chicken that Song Yunlai had bought. Pei Jiuyan cooked a big pot of stewed chicken with wild mushrooms, which made Chi Donglin's eyes red with tears: "Ayan, it's only here that I can find the taste of my mother's cooking."

"Pfft!" Qin Suisui spat out a mouthful of rice, her face turning bright red.

While helping her catch her breath, Pei Jiuyan kicked Chi Donglin in the butt: "If you can't speak properly, then shut your mouth!"

Chi Donglin said aggrievedly, "I didn't say anything wrong. Didn't you learn your cooking skills from my mother?"

After saying that, he looked at Qin Suisui expectantly and said, "Little sister, can I stay here to recuperate for the next few days? I lost so much blood, I have to make up for it, right?"

Qin Suisui nodded: "Of course, no problem, there's plenty of space at home!"

Seeing that Pei Jiuyan didn't object, Chi Donglin settled into a life of pampering himself at their home without any qualms. Of course, he wasn't idle either; he would pick up and drop off the children, help Pei Jiuyan cook and do housework, making his days fulfilling and delicious.

He had planned to stay for a week to recover from his injuries and then go out to sea the following week, but unexpectedly, Pei Jiuyan kicked him out after only two days.

Chi Donglin stamped his foot: "Ayan! You're all about women and no humanity! I'm a patient!"

Pei Jiuyan glanced at him: "Are there any patients as robust as you?"

Chi Donglin reneged, saying, "Tomorrow is the Mid-Autumn Festival! I'll leave the day after tomorrow!"

"No! I'm leaving tonight."

"Why is that?! Don't the three of you feel lonely spending the Mid-Autumn Festival together?"

Pei Jiuyan looked at him and said, "I'll celebrate my wife's birthday tomorrow."

Fine, that's a valid reason. Chi Donglin could only return to his dormitory in a mournful mood and go back to his love-hate relationship with Song Yunlai.

On the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Qin Suisui was called away by the people in the brigade early in the morning. These days, the brigade was busy clearing land and making preparations for planting medicinal herbs. Mai Defu had many things he was unsure about and often came to ask Qin Suisui for advice.

But she had already told Pei Jiuyan last night that she was going to town at noon today.

Pei Jiuyan had already gone to take Zanzan to Chi Donglin's dormitory. He also had to go to the office later. Qin Suisui didn't know how long it would take, so she wrote a note to him, telling him that she had something to do at the brigade and that they would meet at the post office in town at 12 o'clock.

The reason she chose the post office was because Qin Suisui wanted to call her parents. Today was the Mid-Autumn Festival, and in previous years, the whole family would be together on this day. She especially missed her parents on this day. Making a call from the military region would be inconvenient because of her parents' special status, and she didn't want to cause trouble, so she simply went to the town's post office.

There wasn't much to do at the brigade, so after Qin Suisui finished her tasks, she prepared to ride her bike directly to the town.

"Sui Sui, Sui Sui, where are you going?" Su Yunyi chased after them on her bicycle.

Qin Suisui turned around: "I'm going to the post office in town. What about you? And who is this?" Qin Suisui looked at Liu Zhiqiang next to Su Yunyi and knew that she must have seen him before and knew that he was an educated youth sent to the countryside, but she seemed to have never remembered his name.

“I’m going to the post office too! To call my mom! This is Liu Zhiqiang, a former educated youth. He’s from the same hometown as me, and we were sent to the countryside in the same batch.”

Liu Zhiqiang was indeed very shy. When he saw Qin Suisui, he didn't dare to look her in the eye. He could only lower his head and say in a low voice, "Hello, Comrade Qin. I'm also going to the post office."

Qin Suisui responded with a smile, and the three of them chatted and laughed as they headed towards the town.

It was only a little past ten o'clock after she finished making the call at the post office. Since it wasn't yet time to meet Pei Jiuyan, Qin Suisui planned to go to the department store to buy some pastries for the family.

Liu Zhiqiang hesitated, as if he had something to say. Su Yunyi smiled and said, "Liu Zhiqing, just say what you have to say. Sui Sui won't stand on ceremony."

Liu Zhiqiang looked at Qin Suisui, then glanced at Su Yunyi, lowered his head, and said in a low voice, "Um... I want to go to the scrap metal recycling station. I heard that some educated youth found original English books there, and I'd like to go take a look..."

His voice trailed off, but Su Yunyi understood what he meant: "You want us to go with you?"

Liu Zhiqiang looked up at her, his eyes filled with expectation: "Is it okay?"

Su Yunyi glanced at Qin Suisui, who nodded. Anyway, she had been here for so long, but she hadn't been to the scrap metal recycling station that every educated youth had to visit! She had heard from Sister Wu that she had found a small rosewood cabinet at that scrap metal recycling station.

Since she had nothing else to do and the time she had arranged to meet Pei Jiuyan hadn't arrived yet, she figured she might as well go and check on him. Besides, she had recently accumulated a lot of medicine in her space and was short a few cabinets!

So the three of them rode their bicycles to the scrap yard.

The scrap yard was on the street next to the glass factory, the street after the spy hideout she had previously discovered. To be honest, Qin Suisui felt a little scared every time she walked past that spy hideout. She had asked Pei Jiuyan why there were always people inside that place.

Pei Jiuyan didn't say much, only that other things had been found underground, and that she should not go there in the future.

As Qin Suisui crossed the street, she subconsciously glanced at the hideout again. She hadn't heard any noise from inside today; had everything been taken care of? She didn't know why, but passing by here today made her feel uneasy.

Perhaps because of the Mid-Autumn Festival, there were hardly any people at the recycling station. The old man in charge of recycling sat in the shade by the door, fanning himself with a palm leaf fan, holding an enamel mug with a dented corner. The enamel mug was filled with some kind of tea, which must have been freshly brewed and was still steaming. The smell was very strong and pungent.

Seeing them approach, he slowly swirled his teacup and uttered, "It's Mid-Autumn Festival, time for family reunions!"

Su Yunyi thought the old man was giving them Mid-Autumn Festival greetings, so she smiled and nodded at him, saying, "Old comrade, I also wish you a happy Mid-Autumn Festival with your family."

The old man looked up at her, his wrinkled face expressionless, then quickly looked down again and continued to swirl his teacup, seemingly trying to cool the tea down as quickly as possible.
