Chapter 5 / Section 4: Obstacles
"You mustn't get close! If you do, you'll only hurt each other. It's like an egg hitting a rock, a dead end. Why bother? Why don't you ever listen to advice? If you had listened, everything would have been fine."
As soon as Jing Moran arrived at the train station, she was intercepted by Mu Xinghe at the Changsha High-Speed Railway Station, a transfer point. Despite being covered in scars, Mu Xinghe insisted on coming with his bodyguards, solely to stop Jing Moran.
“Jing Moran… I will never let you go,” Mu Xinghe said firmly.
"Mu Xinghe, get out of my way. My meeting with Xiong Yingguang is none of your business," Jing Moran replied coldly.
"You know perfectly well that you're related by blood, that you're siblings, that you both suffer from painlessness, yet you still insist on getting close to her. Why can't you just give her up? Being with her will only bring you more harm." Mu Xinghe's eyes were filled with tears.
In the distance, Mr. Mu silently watched their conversation. This time, he no longer wanted to get involved in his daughter's affairs. He simply took out a cigarette, smoked it silently, and said in a low voice, "Perhaps you have to refuse these things yourself."
The atmosphere at Changsha High-Speed Railway Station almost suffocated Jing Mo Ran; all he wanted was to catch the train to see Xiong Ying Guang. His heart seemed to beat solely for Xiong Ying Guang. He knew that this time, he couldn't afford to miss Xiong Ying Guang, because missing her might be a lifelong regret.
“Mu Xinghe, even if it’s like an egg hitting a rock, I will absolutely break through the constraints. So what if it’s a taboo between siblings, so what if we’re related by blood? I just can’t let go of Xiong Yingguang.” Jing Moran’s tone was resolute.
"Jing Moran, wake up! You two are blood-related siblings, you can never be together to marry and have children. I know you dropped out of school for her, but don't let yourself get so down. No one here cares about you except me!" Mu Xinghe's voice trembled.
“You’re right, nobody cares about me! Not even my dad, Jing Tongyu! He only hates that I came into this world and disturbed his happy life. I’m just superfluous. Monsters should be with monsters. So why are you following me?” Jing Mozhan laughed self-deprecatingly.
"Jing Moran..." Mu Xinghe's eyes were filled with Jing Moran. No matter what he said or what arguments occurred, she couldn't let him go. She loved Jing Moran deeply, even to the point of obsession, and didn't care.
Mu Xinghe slowly opened his backpack, took out a gift box, and handed it to Jing Moran: "Today is your birthday, have you forgotten? You would be with me every year at this time. Why have you forgotten about this ever since Xiong Yingguang appeared..."
"Mu Xinghe, you can still live without me, at least you still have your father with you. But I, I have no one left to accompany me," Jing Moran said softly.
She longed to be close to him, but there were people in this world who needed her more. She couldn't just sit idly by and ignore the person who desperately needed her. She was now alone, having lost her only family member; she needed companionship more than I did. The boy, even without her, at least still had his father who would always love and care for him. But she, from this day forward, had no one left to rely on.
"How could you be so cruel as to abandon me to live a life with Xiong Yingguang? Jing Mozhan, you changed the day you met Xiong Yingguang. You're no longer the person I knew. Day by day, you've been seduced by her gentle charm, changing your heart and thoughts. You've become someone I feel very unfamiliar with, yet also familiar. Look at yourself now, what aspect of you hasn't been changed by her? Your heart is full of wounds, your body is covered in scars from endless bleeding. Has Xiong Yingguang ever cared about you? Could she have given up everything to care for you like I have?" Mu Xinghe sobbed uncontrollably.
"Say what you will, anyway, we're not from the same world. Getting close to me won't end well," Jing Mo Ran said calmly.
The high-speed rail station was bustling with people, but they stood out as if they were an exception. They stood and talked in the crowd, seemingly isolated from the world, breathing air that had nothing to do with anyone else.
Jing Mo Ran still couldn't break through the bodyguards' blockade. But he desperately searched for a chance to escape. Seeing a bodyguard exhausted, he broke through and ran into the high-speed rail station. He knew that only by abandoning Mu Xing He could he reunite with Xiong Ying Guang.
But to Jing Moran's utter surprise, the high-speed train was suspended as soon as she boarded, and she had to wait for the next one. The high-speed train was under maintenance and could not carry passengers to Yantai, Shandong.
Mu Xinghe arrived with his men and saw Jing Moran. Jing Moran was intercepted by the suddenly appearing bodyguards and had nowhere to escape. He was panicked and extremely anxious.
"Jing Moran, either come back with me, or don't even think about spending time alone with Xiong Yingguang," Mu Xinghe said coldly.
"Mu Xinghe, what did I do to offend you? Why are you always bothering me?" Jing Moran asked helplessly.
“You haven’t offended me, but I can’t just watch you get hurt,” Mu Xinghe said firmly.
"No matter what you say today, it won't matter. I'm leaving, and you can't stop me."
"Go! Seize him!"
Jing Mozhan saw the bodyguards approaching him, like catching a hen with nowhere to escape. He had nowhere to run and was eventually caught, unable to break free.
Jing Moran was forcibly taken away and was spotted by the police as she exited the high-speed rail station. Mu Xinghe quickly explained, "This is my boyfriend. He wanted to elope with his mistress, so I dragged him back."
"You can go now. There's no need to enforce family discipline in front of everyone at the high-speed rail station." The policeman waved his hand.
Jing Moran was still taken out of the high-speed rail station. Once inside the car, Mu Xinghe ordered his bodyguards to release Jing Moran. Mu Xinghe wouldn't let him go looking for trouble, which was why he was keeping such a close watch on him.
“Jing Mo Ran, no one can save you like this. Xiong Ying Guang is not only related to you by blood, but her body has also been defiled. You two can never be together. If you insist on going to find her, then go ahead. But, could you let me spend your birthday with you? Let’s do it today. I’ve already prepared a birthday party for you,” Mu Xing He said softly.
Jing Moran smiled and replied, "Okay."
Does the boy know? If he wants to leave, she can't stop him. She just wants to stay with him until he does. At least she can feel his tenderness for one more minute, at least he won't use the guise of love to corrupt her heart. At least she can still feel him beside her.
That day, on the way back to Nanning with the boy, she was overjoyed, for with him by her side, she was never lonely. But from that moment on, the boy's joys and sorrows were never shared with her again, and she never tasted his tenderness once more; it gradually faded from her memory. It wasn't a pity, but she felt that the boy was never meant to be hers; it was always she who was forcing it.
She couldn't stop him from getting closer to Xiong Yingguang, because his body and heart belonged to her; they never belonged to her. No matter how hard she tried, her fate was simply self-inflicted, her own fault, and a result of unrequited love. The boy would never feel sorry for her, nor would he offer to wipe away her tears, tears unrelated to age. It was at that moment that she realized she could actually have the impulse to love a boy. She was so foolish, so incredibly foolish, placing her hopes on someone with no future.
