Chapter Six / Section One: A Long-Awaited Reunion

Chapter Six / Section One: A Long-Awaited Reunion

They finally met that day, but one of them was late. They didn't know if they could spend the rest of their lives together as compensation for the lateness.

Mu Xinghe's eyes were filled with longing and tears. She wouldn't let Jing Moran leave like this, she wouldn't abandon him. However, she could no longer catch up with him, and no matter how hard she tried to find him, it seemed too late.

Mu Xinghe's father pushed open the door and saw his daughter sitting on the floor crying, tears streaming down her face, a heartbreaking sight. He quickly went over to wipe away her tears and gently comforted her.

"Daughter, what's wrong?"

Mu Xinghe looked at her father, tears welling up in her eyes: "He's gone. He's completely left her. Is she really that unworthy?"

"Daughter, let him go. There are many other people in the world who deserve her. Why should she torture herself for Jing Moran?"

"But she loves him. Even if she can't have him, she still hopes for a perfect answer."

"Silly daughter, how much more harm does she want to suffer? Jing Mozhan doesn't deserve her at all."

“She…” Mu Xinghe’s eyes were only on Jing Moran. Even if she couldn’t have him, she wouldn’t allow anyone else to have him so easily. Jing Moran had been with her before, and she was willing to give up everything for him rather than let someone else have him.

He loved her so much; he gave her the rest of his life. But she never had any intention of spending the rest of her life with him.

Looking out at the torrential rain, Mu Xinghe felt her heart could no longer bear the pain and sorrow. He might not be able to give her what she wanted. But all she wanted was to be with him, no matter the outcome, no matter how difficult the future, as long as she could be with him, she would be content.

At this moment, Jing Mozhan had already boarded the high-speed train to Yantai, Shandong. He left Yongzhou and Nanning, wanting only to find Xiong Yingguang and not wanting her to be alone and helpless any longer.

"Xiong Yingguang, I will definitely find you."

In his dream, he saw her. The distance between them seemed both very close and very far, as if they had never gone far, yet they were untouchable.

Jing Mozhan gazed at the snowflakes outside the window, knowing he had been traveling for a day and a night and had finally arrived in Muping District, Yantai, Shandong. The person he wanted to see was in this city. Just as he got off the bus and walked towards the bus stop, he saw Xiong Yingguang; she was only three meters away.

“Bear Firefly…”

"Jing Mo Ran..."

They spoke in unison, and Xiong Yingguang's eyes were filled with only sadness and unease.

"Xiong Yingguang, what's wrong with her? Why does she seem so listless?"

"Jing Mo Ran, she's so heartbroken. She's lost her last remaining family member, the one who gave her life, raised her, and nurtured her, yet she couldn't repay her. She feels like the worst daughter in the world, never having the capacity to repay the kindness of her loved ones who brought her into this world. Now, she has no family left..."

Jing Mo Ran leaned closer to Xiong Ying Guang and whispered, "Who said she doesn't have family? Doesn't she still have him? He can be her family."

Xiong Yingguang looked into Jing Mozhan's eyes, which were filled with unspeakable tears and thoughts.

He knew he could be her family, but they could never break the taboo of blood ties. They couldn't have children, they couldn't truly be together forever. He would have his own family, and how could someone like her cross that forbidden line?

"Jing Moran... they are monsters, monsters without the ability to feel pain. Together they only hurt each other. Has he forgotten? They started that fire, they killed people, does he even know that?"

"He knows... but if they're just a little braver, what can't they do together?"

"Wake up! They're siblings, they can't break the taboo. They're connected by blood, they can't have children, let alone be together forever, it's impossible..."

At that moment, Xiong Yingguang realized that no matter how much she felt a strong urge to be with Jing Moran, no matter how many reasons she had, she couldn't convince herself to be with him. She kept saying she liked him, but she hesitated because of blood ties. Once she touched on the taboo, there would be no hope for the future.

Haiyang approached, his footsteps growing closer. Lu Xiyao followed behind, his feelings for Xiong Yingguang never fading.

"Brother Haiyang, what brings him here?"

"He just wanted Xiong Yingguang to open her eyes and see whether Jing Moran, who was sitting next to her, was really related to her by blood, as others said."

"Brother Haiyang, why is he like this..."

"Why doesn't he like Mu Xinghe? She has sacrificed so much for him, how can he turn a blind eye? Jing Moran, he is really cruel."

"he……"

The excuses that couldn't be uttered have long since become an inescapable reality. They professed to like each other, yet retreated because of blood ties; once taboos were crossed, they could never hope for a future together.

Long time no see, hope you're doing well.

He didn't care about the ending, the answer; he only wanted to know—could he continue to be by her side, to accompany her for the rest of her life, to make her feel safe, and not to be alone anymore? That way, all her heart's desires would have a place to belong. At least, they had never truly gone far. Let them retain this forbidden boundary, it's for the best.
