Chapter Three / Section Five: The Agreement
This was the last time Xiong Yingguang would save Jing Moran, and she hoped Jing Moran would remember her. She knew that once selfishness completely took over her, she would no longer feel that Jing Moran was so important to her, in her eyes, or even in her mind.
"Come this way, hurry up!" Mu Xinghe urged. She couldn't bear to see Jing Moran die. Jing Moran was like her whole world. Without him, she would have nothing.
“Okay… why are you rushing me?” Xiong Yingguang replied.
"I'm urging you? How can you think about it if I don't tell you to hurry up? You know what? You still have friends even if you lose Jing Mo Ran, but I will have nothing if I lose Jing Mo Ran. Jing Mo Ran is my only playmate. You have no idea how important he is to me," Mu Xinghe shouted.
“I might not know, because our families are different. You are a refined and elegant young lady. How could your family be compared to us ordinary people?” Xiong Yingguang said in a low voice.
Mu Xinghe's eyes were full of envy. She didn't know why she envied those children who weren't rich. Their childhood was so happy, while her life could only be wasted on studying. Not only did she have to study humanities and sciences, but she also had to learn violin, piano, ballet, jazz, and so on.
Other children might enjoy a carefree childhood, playing with toys, but all she did besides learning violin, piano, ballet, and jazz was play with dolls. She longed to make more friends, but her parents always refused; Jing Mozhan was her only friend.
As Mu Xinghe watched Xiong Yingguang approach the blood transfusion room, tears finally streamed down her face, revealing the vulnerability she had been suppressing.
“You have no idea how difficult it is to operate a puppet whose movements are restricted. You don’t understand at all…” Mu Xinghe said in a low voice.
Mu Xinghe saw Xiong Yingguang walk out of the infusion room, with a doctor beside her. The doctor led Xiong Yingguang toward Jing Moran's ward. Mu Xinghe wiped away her tears and followed.
They arrived at Jing Mo Ran's ward in just a few steps. The doctor, carrying IV equipment, began drawing blood from Xiong Ying Guang, as tests showed that Xiong Ying Guang and Jing Mo Ran were closely related. Strangely, Xiong Ying Guang was born after her mother and Jing Mo Ran's father divorced; no one understood why they were related by blood.
Upon discovering that Xiong Yingguang and Jing Moran were related by blood, Mu Xinghe finally felt relieved. As long as this blood relation remained a taboo, Xiong Yingguang could never become Jing Moran's lover, and Mu Xinghe could be with Jing Moran forever. Her tears slowly stopped.
Lu Xiyao received a call from Mu Xinghe and immediately rushed to Jing Moran's ward. Cang Ruoxi and Haiyang also arrived quickly.
When they arrived, they found Xiong Yingguang lying unconscious on the bed, and Jing Mozhan receiving a blood transfusion beside her. Both of them were lying unconscious on their respective hospital beds.
Lu Xiyao rushed over, touched Xiong Yingguang's hand, and tried to awaken her with the magic of love.
"Lu Xiyao, just how naive are you to think you can wake someone up like in TV dramas, anime, or movies?" Mu Xinghe said coldly.
“Mu Xinghe, you have no idea what love is. Look, Jing Moran is lying unconscious, but you stand there like a tree, not moving an inch. Is your conscience only for yourself? Just how selfish are you?” Lu Xiyao retorted.
"Don't waste your breath on me. Wait until Jing Mozhan and Xiong Yingguang wake up, let them say a few words, and then you take Xiong Yingguang to Yantai, Shandong! They are both monsters who cannot feel pain through touch. Maybe only in this way will I not have to target Xiong Yingguang in the future," Mu Xinghe said.
“I will,” Lu Xiyao replied firmly.
In Mu Xinghe's eyes, there was only Jing Moran; everyone else seemed distant. Her world could only accommodate Jing Moran; she found it difficult to be friends with anyone else, whether male or female. Therefore, she wanted to possess Jing Moran.
"Lu Xiyao, we need to go back and apply for transfer eligibility," Cang Ruoxi reminded her.
"Let's go, Cang Ruoxi."
After Lu Xiyao left, the ward gradually quieted down. Mu Xinghe faced the two painless patients lying on the same bed. Perhaps she knew that trying so many methods to keep Jing Moran was useless; the only way was for Xiong Yingguang to leave Jing Moran.
Haiyang had already taken Lu Xiyao and Cang Ruoxi to school, leaving Mu Xinghe in the hospital room. Mu Xinghe couldn't help but cry out, "Why are you all like this, always leaving me all alone..."
A ray of sunlight shone through the window, and Xiong Yingguang and Jing Moran awoke from their slumber. Jing Moran had slept for a day and a night, while Xiong Yingguang had slept for about ten hours.
Just as Jing Moran was about to get up, Xiong Yingguang called out to her.
"Jing Moran, you're awake! That's wonderful," Xiong Yingguang said softly.
"Xiong Yingguang, why are you here?" Jing Moran asked in return.
"Have you two had enough of showing off? You're already showing off your love first thing in the morning." Mu Xinghe couldn't stand it anymore. He had seen them flaunting their affection ever since he brought in the water.
"Mu Xinghe, please leave! I have something to say to Jing Moran." Xiong Yingguang's tone was full of pleading.
Xiong Yingguang knew that she couldn't move the mountain alone, nor could she forget her sorrow on her own. Sorrow and joy had long since eroded her heart, and she couldn't stop the cruelty of reality, but the only one she would never relinquish was Jing Moran.
After seeing Mu Xinghe walk out, Xiong Yingguang immediately said to Jing Moran, "Jing Moran, don't be silly anymore. If you're this silly, I won't accept anything from you. You shouldn't be with me anymore; there's no future for us. Also, I'm going to Shandong soon, so don't worry about me."
Jing Mo Ran countered, "You're leaving Nanning?"
"Um……"
"Xiong Yingguang, how can you do this? Are you willing to give up everything here? Are you willing to forget everything we've been through? Ask yourself honestly, are you willing to give it up?" Jing Moran shouted.
"What does it matter if I'm willing to leave or not? Do you think I want to leave? I'm just being forced by my family. Between you and my family, I can only choose my family. I can't abandon my mother, I can't do it. If I don't come back after seven years, then don't wait for me anymore!"
"Seven years? You've been gone that long?"
"I'm just going to study... Jing Mo Ran, let's make a promise! If I come back in seven years, I will marry you. If I don't come back in seven years, then forget about me."
"Xiong Yingguang! You stop right there."
Having lost too much blood, Jing Moran could only lie in the hospital bed. Having just woken up, he was too weak to chase after Xiong Yingguang, and as soon as he got up, he fell to the ground.
Xiong Yingguang pulled out the IV drip and ran outside immediately. She knew she didn't have the courage to turn back, nor could she help Jing Moran up. Ever since she learned that she and Jing Moran were siblings, she could no longer face him. She kept running, tears streaming down her face, repeatedly saying "I'm sorry" over and over again.
Mu Xinghe had just returned from getting water when she noticed that Xiong Yingguang was no longer in the ward. She saw Jing Moran lying on the floor and immediately put down the kettle to help him up.
Those people you desperately tried to hold onto eventually disappeared with the passage of time. Despite your best efforts, you couldn't save them; all that was left was helplessness and resentment.
That day, Mu Xinghe saw Xiong Yingguang's retreating figure as she ran away, so unattainable in her eyes. She longed to approach Xiong Yingguang and stop her, but she couldn't bring herself to chase after her, hold her in her arms, and pat her chest.
Mu Xinghe's sobbing became the focal point of the year they parted. She so wanted to muster all her strength to catch up with Xiong Yingguang and hold her back, even if it was just a little bit, so that she wouldn't regret it for the rest of her life without Xiong Yingguang.
The seven-year itch—how could she possibly overcome it? The wind caressed her cheeks, reminding her forever of the excruciating pain of losing Xiong Yingguang. From then on, her world began to quiet down, for with Xiong Yingguang gone, she seemed to have returned to square one. She felt that Xiong Yingguang had been there, like a dream, yet it was as if she lived on in her memories, constantly entangled. Perhaps Xiong Yingguang was truly unforgettable, or perhaps she simply couldn't forget her.
