Chapter 323: Pretending to be dead

Chapter 323: Pretend to be dead

"Protect the young master!" Lu Fei immediately and the guards protected Xiao Jingfan in the middle.

Chen Xing and Si Yue stood on Chu Liuzheng's left and right, with the same alert expression.

Chu Liuzheng stared at the two of them.

You're not going to hide it from her at all, right?

Feng Jing stretched his neck to look forward curiously. Zhou Yuande grabbed a person who was running over and asked, "What happened?"

"He's faking it!" The man's face was full of panic. He shook off Zhou Yuande's hand and continued to run forward.

There were many people running in all directions like him. The originally bustling street suddenly became chaotic. Many stalls were overturned and pots, pans, and dishes fell to the ground.

Zhou Yuande frowned and walked back, saying, "Master, there's chaos here. Let's go back to the inn first."

Xiao Jingfan nodded.

To prevent a stampede, he ordered Lu Fei to take a few people to stay and check, and leave only after the government officials arrived.

Lu Fei accepted the order and stayed, while Chu Liuzheng and others followed Xiao Jingfan back to the inn.

I was just strolling around the street when I encountered a zombie. It was curious but also very unlucky.

Everyone was hungry, so Chu Liuzheng went to find the waiter to order food and had it delivered directly to the room.

She and Siyue went to the kitchen together to watch the chef prepare the food for Xiao Jingfan, for fear that it would not be clean.

The cook's hands moved much faster under the watchful eyes of the two men, and he prepared four dishes and a soup in just a few moments.

Chu Liuzheng and the other man brought the food to Xiao Jingfan's room on a tray.

Feng Jing checked the food and only let Xiao Jingfan eat it after confirming that it was non-toxic.

Xiao Jingfan didn't have much of an appetite, but he still had to travel tomorrow. How would he have the energy if he didn't eat?

Chu Liuzheng served him food as usual.

There were only four dishes and one soup in total, and they were all the same dishes. Xiao Jingfan simply asked her to go back to her room to eat and come back after she was done.

The inn was booked by their group, and the kitchen was only used to prepare their meals.

Three stoves were burning at the same time, the chef swung the wok until it smoked, and the dishes were served quite quickly.

When Chu Liuzheng returned to his room, the waiter had just delivered the food.

"Wait." She called to the waiter, "There are a lot of us. Please boil some more hot water. You don't have to bring it up. We can get it when we need it."

The guy agreed readily and closed the door on his way out.

Siyue served the rice and asked Chu Liuzheng to sit down and eat.

Chen Xing was eating absentmindedly, thinking about the corpse in his mind, and he really wanted to go and take a look.

Chu Liuzheng was also thinking about it.

[A dead person is dead, how could he possibly come back to life? I want to see what's going on.]

While eating, she focused her attention on the system.

In the guest room separated by a wall, Xiao Jingfan paused in picking up the food and began to eavesdrop quietly.

Zhou Yuande was waiting nearby, and Xiao Jingfan waved at him, asking him to go and eat too.

There were secret guards guarding on both sides, so Zhou Yuande had nothing to worry about and went next door to find Feng Jing for dinner.

[Longkou Town… a corpse… a corpse… um… got it!]

Chu Liuzheng paused and clicked on the gossip in front of him.

[Frog fun! A person who had been dead for two days was wandering the streets in his shroud. No wonder everyone was running around in terror. He really was just reviving himself!]

Xiao Jingfan's eyebrows moved slightly, and he slowly swallowed the food in his mouth.

He didn't believe that a dead person could come back to life, unless the person was not dead at all.

Chu Liuzheng didn't believe it either, so she continued to search in the system.

Before she finished reading, Lu Fei came back.

Everyone hurriedly finished their meal and gathered in Xiao Jingfan's room, all wanting to hear what was going on with this corpse-pretending incident.

Lu Fei was stared at by them so hard that he didn't even have time to drink his saliva. He told them all the information he had heard.

He said, "The man who faked his death was named Wu Mian. He was in his forties and was an expert at making dough figurines. He usually sold them around town carrying a basket on his shoulder. According to his neighbors, Wu Mian was hit on the head by a falling brick two days ago. Blood was all over the floor, and he died immediately."

"Wu Mian's parents passed away early. He has no wife, no children, and no relatives. He is a lonely man. The money for the coffin was collected by the neighbors. They asked someone to calculate the date and prepare for the burial tomorrow."

Everyone calculated the time. He died two days ago and will be buried tomorrow. So he must have been lying in the coffin for a day, right?

Is this really resurrection from the dead?

Chen Xing handed Lu Fei a glass of water and asked with sparkling eyes, "How did he suddenly come back to life?"

I really want to capture him and dissect him!

Lu Fei, inexplicably pierced by her gaze, quickly took the water and said, "It's said that he suddenly sat up from his coffin, drooling and yelling about being hungry. The people in the mourning hall were so frightened that they ran out, yelling 'he's a corpse.'"

"Unexpectedly, Wu Mian also ran out, grabbing anything he could and chewing it, as if he was mad with hunger. It took four strong yamen runners to restrain him, tie him up with ropes, and take him to the infirmary to be examined by a doctor."

"The neighbors suspected that Wu Mian's body was possessed by a wandering ghost, and they were planning to go out of town to find the abbot of Taoran Temple to catch the ghost."

Xiao Jingfan frowned: "Is there also a Taoran Temple in Longkou Town?"

Lu Fei nodded. "It's on Red Stone Mountain. It was said to have been built only last year. The abbot is very young, only in his early twenties, but he has great magical powers. Every family in Longkou Town who encounters something strange asks him to come and see them. The fees are also very cheap, the most expensive is only two taels."

Compared to those masters in the capital who charge dozens or hundreds of taels, it is really quite affordable.

Chu Liuzheng calculated silently in his mind.

[One is two taels, five are ten taels, ten are twenty taels... Wow, this shaman dance is so profitable! I can do that too!]

Xiao Jingfan was completely confused. Is this the point? Can't you care about something other than money?

Chen Xing tugged at Lu Fei's sleeve and pressed, "What did the doctor say? Is Wu Mian really dead or is he faking it?"

"There's blood all over the floor, so he must be really dead." Mi Yue glanced at her, signaling her to be more restrained.

Chen Xing couldn't restrain herself. After all, this issue was very important. It concerned whether she should climb through the window of Wu Mian's house in the middle of the night to perform an autopsy for free.

Feng Jing tugged at Lu Fei's other sleeve. "What about the wound on your head? Has it healed?"

Lu Fei: “…”

These two guys are so strong that his sleeves are about to break!

He moved his arms to signal them to let go, but they both held on tightly as if they were afraid he would run away.

To save the clothes he had only worn three times, he could only answer like this: "He's alive and kicking, and there's no sign of corpse spots. He must have faked his death. The doctor at Huichuntang couldn't tell me what it was. As for the wound on his head..."

He glanced at Feng Jing's hand and said, "The wound was sewn shut when he was buried. The doctor didn't even open it to look. I don't know what's inside."

Mitsuki couldn't help but ask, "What about the smell? Does Wu Mian have the stench of rotting meat?"

If a person has been dead for two days, his internal organs will have begun to decay and will emit some unpleasant odor.

Lu Fei shook his head: "There were too many people watching the excitement. I wasn't close enough to smell anything."

"Is this Wu Mian pretending to be dead?" Chen Xing stamped his feet anxiously and really wanted to climb up the window of Wu Mian's house to find out what was going on.
