"You're applying to join the army? What does that mean? Haven't you already joined the army?" Jiang Yue didn't understand.
"No!" Lian Rongrong tugged at the corner of her clothes, her eyes reddened, "You have to be a deputy battalion commander or have served for fifteen years before you can join the army. Our Wang Weixu's rank and service are not high enough."
"So you are living in the staff quarters now because you are on home leave?" Jiang Yue asked. She didn't care about these things before and didn't really understand them.
"Well, I'm only allowed to stay here for one month a year." Lian Rongrong started to curse as she spoke, "It's all because of that son of a bitch Zhou Guihua who reported me. Today, the logistics department came to urge me to vacate the house!"
Jiang Yue knew that when military dependents came to visit their families, the army would arrange housing for them and take it back after the leave. Usually, the military dependents' visit lasted for a month.
"Then Rongrong, how are you looking for Gu Ye? Isn't your Captain Wang in Captain Zhao's regiment? Wouldn't it be more convenient for you to go find Sister-in-law Zhao?" Jiang Yue wondered.
Lian Rongrong lowered her head and stammered, "I've looked for my sister-in-law twice, I'm embarrassed to look for her again."
Jiang Yue: "Can't you solve the problem with your sister-in-law?"
Lian Rongrong: "My sister-in-law mentioned this to Captain Zhao, but he said he could only help extend the family visit time, and that he couldn't arrange for me to accompany the troops if I didn't meet the regulations."
Jiang Yue scratched his face, "So what do you want Gu Ye to do now?"
Lian Rongrong pursed her lips and said a little embarrassedly: "I heard that your captain Gu has a good relationship with commander Zheng. If captain Gu can mention it to commander Zheng, as long as commander Zheng says a word, my joining the army can be solved."
Jiang Yue thought to herself, it turns out Lian Rongrong wants to take the back door!
However, Jiang Yue didn't know what Gu Ye's attitude was towards this matter, nor was she sure whether it was really as Lian Rongrong said, that as long as she found the division commander, he could say a word to allow family members who did not meet the regulations to accompany the army, so she did not agree immediately.
"Rongrong, don't worry. I'll talk to Gu Ye when he comes back in the evening."
When Lian Rongrong came, she was holding two bottles of canned peaches. Jiang Yue naturally didn't want them and asked Lian Rongrong to take them back.
As the sun sets, Jiang Yue is washing and scrubbing in the yard and sprinkling water on the cement floor. Ningning is watering the roses, scooping them one scoop at a time with a small ladle.
The temperature has been suitable recently and the flowers and trees are growing very well.
Jiang Yue's oven was completed yesterday and left to dry for a day. Today, Jiang Yue plans to open the oven to make some snacks.
After waking up from a nap, Jiang Yue added firewood to the stove. While preheating the oven, Jiang Yue took two potatoes, washed and peeled them, cut them into thin slices, soaked them in clean water to extract the starch, and then sprinkled salt on them to marinate for a while.
"Mom, do you want to make French fries?" Ningning asked happily as she looked at the familiar steps.
"Instead of making French fries, we're going to make potato chips today." Jiang Yue went to process the mushrooms, cleaned them, made a cross on the mushrooms, and sprinkled salt on them and mixed them evenly.
"Are the potato chips delicious?" Ningning showed a greedy cat expression when she heard that there was something she had never eaten before.
"You'll know whether it tastes good or not when it's done." Jiang Yue took out the iron plate and iron rack from the oven. This time she specially made this iron rack that can be propped up so that she can bake more food at a time.
Jiang Yue placed potato slices and mushrooms on the iron rack and iron plate respectively and pushed them into the oven. She also put a few sweet potatoes in and sealed the oven mouth with the iron plate.
"Mom, when will the potato chips be ready?" Ningning looked at the side eagerly, and couldn't wait to taste what the potato chips tasted like.
"Ningning, go play for a while, then read a book. It should be ready when dad comes back." Jiang Yue estimated the time. When roasting potato chips, the fire cannot be too high. They have to be roasted slowly over low heat. It will take at least an hour.
Jiang Yue went to check after a while and turned the potato chips and mushrooms over.
After a while, the aroma wafted out. Ningning no longer had the heart to read, so she simply moved a small stool and sat next to the oven to stare at it.
"Ningning, it's too hot sitting there. Go and play. I'll call you when you're ready." Jiang Yue looked at the time and decided to prepare dinner.
Dinner is ready and the potato chips are almost done.
Jiang Yue carefully picked out the potato chips one by one with chopsticks and placed them on a sieve covered with greaseproof paper to cool.
"Mom, can I eat now?" Ningning's mouth was watering.
"It's a little hot, be careful!" Jiang Yue picked up a piece, blew on it, and then handed it to Ningning.
Ningning put it in her mouth and took a bite. With a "crunch" sound, the little girl's eyes widened and she said in shock: "Mom, these potato chips are delicious!"
Jiang Yue also tried a piece. This should be considered original potato chips. The baked potato chips were crispy and fragrant, with just the right amount of salty taste.
"Mom, are we going to sell potato chips?" Ning Ning ate a few chips in a row, her eyes sparkling, and suggested to Jiang Yue: "Selling potato chips will definitely make money!"
Jiang Yue burst out laughing. Gu Ye even said that she was a money-grubber. He should look at his daughter, who had already thought of selling potato chips to make money.
But Jiang Yue did think about it. She cut two medium-sized potatoes into nearly sixty slices, which, excluding those that were too small, could make two servings according to the specifications of potato chips in her era.
Potatoes cost five cents a pound, and there are about six medium-sized potatoes in a pound. Excluding losses, it should be no problem to make about five portions. A portion of potato chips costs 1.2 cents, and five portions cost 60 cents, which is almost no cost. Moreover, compared to French fries, the frying process is omitted, and there is no need to worry about buying cooking oil.
But the downside is that it takes too much time!
Moreover, Jiang Yue’s oven is not big enough and cannot produce too much at a time. It is okay to make some for eating at home, but if he wants to turn this into a business, Jiang Yue is not considering it at the moment unless he can find large-scale processing and production.
Excluding sleeping time, even if she could make 100 servings of potato chips after a busy day, she could only sell them for a dozen yuan, and all her time was wasted on it. She would not earn as much as she could by selling two pieces of children's clothing.
