Chapter 490: Eyes Opened

As soon as Gu Huaijing came out, Gu Ye sat next to Gu Li again, ignoring Gu Huaijing and refusing to speak a word to his father.

Gu Huaijing's eyebrows were twitching again. He was so angry that he wanted to hit his son!

Rong Yin quickly stepped forward and held Gu Huaijing down: Your daughter-in-law is here, give your son some face!

Gu Huaijing glanced over and happened to see Jiang Yue looking up and smiling at him. The girl had lively eyes and a bright, gentle smile. Gu Huaijing's face, which had just turned dark because of seeing his youngest son, immediately turned bright and he smiled back at Jiang Yue.

Although the smile was a little stiff, he was trying hard to smile.

Gu Huaijing was thinking that his daughter-in-law was so pretty and well-behaved, and it was her first time visiting, so he definitely couldn't give her the cold shoulder.

Seeing this, Gu Li nudged Gu Ye with his elbow and signaled him with his eyes: Look at the old man, the sun is rising from the west, and the old man can actually laugh!

Gu Ye also raised the end of his eyebrows and snorted almost inaudibly. It was normal for the old man to like his wife since she was so beautiful, cute and good!

Rong Yin took out some soda and poured a glass for Jiang Yue and Ning Ning. "It's hot in the room. Drink some soda to quench your thirst!"

Although it was icy and snowy outside and the temperature was below zero, the Gu family had heating. Just after coming in, Jiang Yue took off her coat and only wore the sweater inside, with sweat on her head.

Gu Ye and Gu Li also held out their cups, "Mom, I want one too!"

The two were scolded by Gu Huaijing at that time, holding the bottle to pour them wine, "Why are you two grown men drinking soda? Drink with me!"

Gu Li covered the rim of the cup and refused, "Dad, I have a meeting this afternoon and I can't drink!"

Gu Huaijing looked at Gu Ye again. Gu Ye had no intention of paying attention to him, but he noticed his young wife's gaze and Jiang Yue winked at him. After hesitating for a few seconds, he reluctantly handed the cup to Gu Huaijing.

"Why does asking you to drink some wine make it feel like a knife cutting your flesh!" Gu Huaijing became angry again when he saw Gu Ye's expression.

"Ningning, let's go have a drink with grandpa together with dad!" Seeing that Gu Ye was about to get angry, Jiang Yue quickly stood up, and pulled Ningning, who was sitting on a chair nearby, up, and then winked at Gu Ye.

Jiang Yue was really enlightened today. Gu Ye was such a calm and reserved person when he was in the division headquarters, but as soon as he returned home, he became full of thorns and was like a bomb that could be easily ignited.

"I wish grandpa to be as blessed as the endless water of the East China Sea, and as long-lived as the evergreen pines of the Southern Mountains! I wish grandma to be forever young and beautiful, and stay youthful forever!" Ningning said in a baby voice, holding up a cup of soda.

This made both Gu Huaijing and Rong Yin laugh.

Gu Huaijing asked Ningning, "How did you come up with this couplet? Who taught you?"

Ning Ning glanced at Jiang Yue and said, "My mother taught me that!"

Rong Yin smiled and asked, "What else can you do? Can you recognize words?"

Ning Ning nodded, "I can recognize the words. I'm a little teacher in the kindergarten!"

"Wow, that's amazing!" Rong Yin touched Ning Ning's little head, then looked at Jiang Yue and asked, "Did your mother teach you all this?"

"Yes! Mommy also taught Ningning to recite poems and speak English. Hi, grandpa, grandma, my name is Gu Ning. This is my mama, this is my papa!"

Ningning suddenly switched between Chinese and English, which made Rongyin and Gu Huaijing laugh.

"Oh, you can speak English!"

Ningning straightened her back proudly. Seeing that Gu Huaijing and Gu Ye were holding their wine glasses without moving, she urged them to drink more.

"Grandpa drinks, Dad drinks!"

Gu Huaijing glanced at Gu Ye and saw that Gu Ye was looking at Ningning and smiling. He snorted almost inaudibly.

Ning Ning held up her soda cup and clinked glasses with Jiang Yue Rongyin, "Cheers, grandma! Cheers, mom!"

"cheers!"

The atmosphere at the dinner table was not so stiff at this time. Except for Gu Huaijing and Gu Ye who still disliked each other, the meal was a pleasant one.

After dinner, a nanny came to clear the table. Jiang Yue didn't need to express anything, as Rong Yin had already pulled Jiang Yue to sit on the sofa and asked her about the batch of ready-made clothes.

Gu Ye and Gu Li took Ningning to play in the yard. Ningning was very curious about this uncle who looked very much like her father. She kept observing Gu Li, and from time to time she would look at Gu Ye and then at Gu Li.

Although Gu Li looks cold, he actually has a much better temper than Gu Ye. Seeing Ning Ning staring at him, he waved and called Ning Ning over.

"Uncle!" Ningning walked up to Gu Li.

"Uncle, can you take Ningning to see the parrot that grandpa raises?" Gu Li was very kind to Ningning, not only because this little girl was his brother's adopted daughter and his nominal niece, but also because of Ningning's background as an orphan of a martyr.

As a soldier, especially one who has been on the battlefield, he knows very well the meaning of the word "martyr".

This little girl is lucky in misfortune, to be adopted by such good foster parents. There are many more children of martyrs in the world who live an uncared-for and extremely difficult life.

"Great!" Ning Ning clapped her hands happily when she heard there was a parrot, and asked Gu Li, "Uncle, can parrots talk?"

"Grandpa, this parrot hasn't learned to speak yet." Gu Li replied.

Ningning was a little disappointed when she heard this. "Oh, my mom told me there's a parrot named Polly that can speak English!"

"Polly?" Gu Li raised an eyebrow, thinking that Gu Ye also had a parrot at home. "Does your mother also have a parrot?"

"No!" Ningning shook her head. "We don't have a parrot at home. Mom said Polly is a pet kept by Grandpa Pig and Grandma Pig."
