Jiang Yue's life has been extremely fulfilling these days. She gets up early every morning to peel potatoes and sweet potatoes, cut them into small strips, soak the potatoes in clean water for a while to remove the starch, and then fry them in a pan until both sides are golden brown. After they cool a little, she puts them into a bowl.
Then she had to make breakfast for herself and Ningning, then wake Ningning up. After they both finished breakfast, she packed her food and went out to the county town to sell French fries.
Jiang Yue went to the market a few days ago and bought a backpack specially. She put the things she wanted to bring in the basket, so that her hands were free. It was also more comfortable to carry it on her back than to carry a basket all the time.
The target group of tea eggs is people who get up early to go to work, but French fries are different. The target customers are children, but children have no money, so adults have to be willing to buy them.
So Jiang Yue changed the sales location to the vegetable market, and when she saw parents with children, she greeted them enthusiastically: "Auntie, do you want to buy some French fries for your grandson to try?"
Jiang Yue doesn't try to sell to just anyone. She won't consider those who obviously don't have a good family situation and only buy cheap groceries. She only looks for people whose clothes are clean and tidy without patches. For example, the middle-aged woman she just greeted had vegetables, meat and fish in her basket. It was obvious that her family was well-off.
It’s not that Jiang Yue looks down on the poor, but she has to consider the reality. The poor can’t even afford to eat, so how can they spend extra money to buy snacks for their children?
But it’s different for rich aunts.
Sure enough, the aunt stopped walking when she heard the novel name and stretched her head to look, "What kind of fries are these? Let me take a look. Are they delicious?"
"Look, this is what my child eats." Jiang Yue gestured to Ningning with a smile, "Ningning, show grandma the French fries you are eating."
Jiang Yue brings Ningning with her whenever she comes to the county town these days. Firstly, she has to go out every day, and she can't trouble Lian Rongrong to help take care of Ningning every day; secondly, Ningning knows that Jiang Yue is coming to the county town to sell French fries, so she takes the initiative to follow.
Ningning made rapid progress under Jiang Yue's guidance and dared to express her own ideas. Jiang Yue certainly would not stop her.
In fact, Jiang Yue didn't feel any inconvenience at all when she was with Ningning.
Ningning is very well-behaved and won’t run around. Jiang Yue always brings some homemade snacks for Ningning and makes a pot of sour plum soup.
While Jiang Yue was greeting guests, Ning Ning was eating and drinking beside her.
Children are very curious, and when passing children see Ningning eating something they have never seen before, they will ask the adults next to them to buy it. As a result, Jiang Yue used Ningning as a living signboard, so she didn't have to shout.
"You can try it first. If it doesn't taste good, you don't have to pay!" Seeing the aunt hesitating, Jiang Yue enthusiastically handed her two French fries and dipped them in ketchup.
"Is this edible?" The aunt looked a little worried and ate one herself first.
"Milk, give me something to eat! Give it to me quickly!" The little boy, who was about four or five years old, was so anxious that he almost jumped up and snatched the food from his grandmother.
"Don't be anxious, grandson. I'll give it to you right away!" The aunt was afraid that the boy would fall, so she quickly handed him the French fries in her hand.
The little boy didn't reach out to take it himself, but ate it in one bite from his grandmother's hand. Jiang Yue suspected that he didn't taste it. The little boy had already grabbed the grandmother's sleeve and yelled, "Grandma, buy it for me! I want to eat French fries! Delicious!"
"Okay, Haohao, be good. Grandma will buy it for you!" The old lady comforted the little boy and asked Jiang Yue, "What is this and how much is it?"
"It's French fries, 1.2 cents a portion." Jiang Yue replied.
When the aunt heard this, she took back her hand that was about to pay, and pulled the little boy away, "Why is it so expensive? I'm just eating potatoes, right? I can buy two kilograms of potatoes for 1.2 cents, who would buy this from you! Haohao, let's go, grandma will cook for you when we get home!"
Jiang Yue was not in a hurry, and still explained with a smile: "Auntie, the account can't be calculated like this. Think about it, although the raw material of my French fries is potatoes, potatoes are indeed not expensive, but I also need to process and make them. You can't just calculate the cost of potatoes, you also have to include the labor and material costs, don't you think?"
The little boy also held on to the old lady's hand tightly and refused to leave, shouting, "Grandma's cooking is not good! I want to eat French fries!"
The aunt couldn't persuade her grandson, so she had to agree, "Okay, grandma will buy it!"
"Would you like ketchup or salt and pepper?" Jiang Yue showed off her standard eight teeth and gave a perfect service smile.
"Ketchup! I want ketchup!" the little boy shouted first.
Jiang Yue wrapped a portion of French fries in oil paper, poured two spoonfuls of ketchup on them, and handed them to the aunt, "Here you go! I'll give you two more sweet potato fries."
The aunt counted out 1.2 cents and gave it to Jiang Yue. Although she still felt it was expensive, she felt less sad when she saw her grandson enjoying the meal. Then she felt even better when she heard Jiang Yue say that she would give her two sweet plums to try.
"You look young, girl, but your child is already so big! It's quite early to get married!" The aunt chatted with Jiang Yue for a few more words.
"Yes." Jiang Yue closed the lid of the ketchup bucket and waved goodbye to the aunt enthusiastically, "Take care, aunt!"
In less than an hour, all the French fries that Jiang Yue brought were sold out.
But she didn't just sell it in the vegetable market, she also went to a few residential areas, and basically the children couldn't walk when they heard about French fries and ketchup. Although adults thought it was too expensive, children would usually pay for it if they wanted to eat it, and it was easier to sell than tea eggs.
"Ningning, let's go home!" Jiang Yue put the bamboo basket into the backpack, took Ningning's hand and walked back.
It was not yet ten o'clock, so I walked home just in time to make lunch.
However, before returning home, Jiang Yue had to go to Aunt Yang's tailor shop.
We had originally agreed to pick up the clothes the next day, but her period came that night and she only remembered after resting at home for a few days.
