Chapter 80: I despise her for being a street vendor

As soon as Gu Ye and Jiang Yue left, Captain Zhao's house erupted with voices of "Delicious!" "So delicious!" "Ah, Zhao Jianjun, don't take it from me!" "Zhao Yuanqi, you're a dog!"

"Which house are we going to next?" Jiang Yue asked Gu Ye after leaving Captain Zhao's house.

"Wang Weixu's house is in front, let's go to him first." Gu Ye said.

Many people in the family compound had already finished dinner and were sitting at the door with a palm-leaf fan to enjoy the cool air. Gu Ye and Jiang Yue entered Captain Zhao's house with a pot, and someone was looking at the door, wanting to know what they were doing. When they heard that Gu Ye and Jiang Yue were going to Wang Weixu's house, some curious people immediately rushed over and waited there.

Wang Weixu and Lian Rongrong were having dinner at home when suddenly several people came to tell them that Gu Ye and Jiang Yue were there, which made them both nervous.

"Why did Gu Tuan come here at this time? Is he here to have dinner at our house? But we haven't prepared any food!" Wang Weixu was so anxious that he was running around.

Lian Rongrong asked: "Is it too late to start now?"

As they were talking, Gu Ye had already walked in. Jiang Yue followed behind with Ning Ning by the hand. Just as she heard Lian Rongrong's words, she hurriedly said, "Don't bother, we've already eaten!"

Have you eaten? If you have eaten, then why did you come to his house? And you brought a pot with you?

"Jiang Yue cooked some tea eggs. Let you guys have a taste." Gu Ye lifted the lid of the pot and motioned to Wang Weixu, "Bring a bowl."

“Oh, huh?” Wang Weixu was stunned for a moment before he came to his senses and tried to refuse, “Gu Tuan, you guys can keep it for your family—”

Lian Rongrong nudged Wang Weixu and responded with a smile: "Thank you, Captain Gu!"

Lian Rongrong had eaten the tea eggs cooked by Jiang Yue before. She could never forget the delicious taste. Later, she tried to cook tea eggs several times by herself, but none of them tasted as good as Jiang Yue's.

After leaving Wang Weixu’s house, the family of three went to several other houses without stopping and finally distributed the full pot of tea eggs.

Jiang Yue exhaled, "Can I go home now?"

At this time, there was already a lot of discussion in the family compound.

"Is there something good going on in the Gu Ye family? Why are they sending tea eggs everywhere?"

"How can we give it away everywhere? We only give it to Captain Zhao's family and Captain Wang's family! You don't even have the qualifications to get it!"

"Do you think the Gu Ye family is that rich? Tea eggs are sold for 1.5 cents each outside, but he just gave away this pot?"

"I heard that Jiang Yue, that spendthrift woman, wasted some eggs at home and cooked a big pot. Now that it's hot, she can't keep them, so Gu Ye gave them all away as a favor."

"Tsk tsk, you really don't know how to live!"

A few people were discussing, and suddenly someone interrupted and said, "By the way, let me tell you something. I went to the county market to buy vegetables today, and I saw Jiang Yue and Gu Ning setting up a stall there to sell French fries."

"What? Did you see it right? Jiang Yue is setting up a stall? What's he selling?"

"Didn't I just tell you to sell French fries?"

"What are French fries? That's not right. Gu Ye's salary is so high, why would Jiang Yue do such a shameful thing? You are not seeing things!"

"That can't be wrong! Gu Ning is here too!"

"Do you think Gu Ye knew that Jiang Yue did such a shameful thing?"

"I guess they don't know, otherwise they wouldn't let her go!"

Everyone talked about it and finally came to the conclusion that it must be because Gu Ye did not give Jiang Yue any household allowance, which was why Jiang Yue shamelessly ran to the county town to sell French fries.

"Bah! You have no other job but to become a peddler. You are really bringing shame to our family compound!"

Jiang Yue didn't know that the people in the staff compound were envious of her family for buying a summer bed and chairs yesterday, but today they began to despise her for being a street vendor in public.

It was still daylight when they left home, but it was already dark when they got home. Gu Ye took the steel pot to the well to clean it, and Jiang Yue boiled water to prepare for a bath.

The weather has been bad since the afternoon today. It's hot and stuffy. Jiang Yue just took a shower and felt sweaty again.

"Gu Ye, it's windy and there might be a heavy rain at night. Will the deck chair get damaged by the rain if we leave it outside?" Jiang Yue looked at the deck chair under the osmanthus tree. After all, it only cost twenty yuan. She would feel bad if it broke down after just two days of purchase.

"It's okay!" Gu Ye said this, but he still went to the woodshed in the backyard, found a piece of oilcloth and covered the chair with it, then pressed it down with bricks to prevent the oilcloth from being blown away by the wind.

Jiang Yue took all the clothes hanging in the corridor back home. The sky suddenly brightened, followed by a loud explosion.

Jiang Yue was so frightened that the clothes in her hands almost fell to the ground.

In just a moment, lightning flashed, thunder roared, strong winds blew, and heavy rain poured down.

"Bang!" The kitchen window was blown open by the wind.

Jiang Yue saw Gu Ye enter the kitchen in the rain. The window was closed again. When he came out, he closed the kitchen door.

"Gu Ye, go on!"

It was more than ten steps from the kitchen to the main room. Even though Gu Ye had long legs and took big steps, he would inevitably get wet in the rain, so Jiang Yue found an oil-paper umbrella and threw it over.

As soon as Jiang Yue finished speaking, Gu Ye stretched out his hand swiftly and grabbed the oil-paper umbrella. Jiang Yue felt that Gu Ye seemed to look up at her, and under the lightning, his eyes seemed to be full of bubbles.

No, no, no! It must be because it was too dark and she was dazzled!

In the blink of an eye, Gu Ye returned to the main room. He folded his umbrella and placed it in the corner. When he looked back at Jiang Yue, his thin lips moved, "Thank you!"

Jiang Yue laughed, "What are you thanking me for?"

She just said that she was dazzled. How could Gu Ye look at her with such sinister eyes!

There were lightning and thunder outside. Suddenly, there was a loud thunder, and the house was in darkness. The power went out.

Gu Ye went to find a kerosene lamp, Ning Ning ran out screaming and hugged Gu Ye's legs. Jiang Yue wanted to scream too, but held back.
