偷聽的艾琳大氣不敢出，好幾次，她差一點兒就被“蝙蝠俠”發現，不過，女孩機智又膽大，在蝙蝠俠靠近時學習一旁小鳥兒的叫聲，騙過了對方，蝙蝠俠離開後，滴水獸們接二連三地飛出了觀景臺。
夜風與雨絲一同打在她的臉上，艾琳立刻意識到，現在知道這個秘密的就只有她這種小孩子，她應該立刻去想辦法，阻止這一切，阻止蝙蝠俠改變這個城市。
這是一部全年齡向的城市宣傳影片，迪克歪頭湊過去同芭芭拉說：“就算知道結局一定是皆大歡喜，但電影本身的表現力真棒，會忍不住被電影劇情影響……”他們都看得出來，蝙蝠俠被這樣改編是為了隐藏蝙蝠俠的真實身份，如果相信現實中的蝙蝠俠是個身強體壯身着戰甲的白人男性，那麽“統治哥譚”自然是無稽之談，如果相信電影中的蝙蝠俠，那麽能夠為布魯斯的真實身份做隐瞞。
“當然，但布魯德海文不可能出現這樣的電影。”芭芭拉攤手。
“因為布魯德海文沒有一位慷慨的投資人——”迪克小聲嘟囔。
“不，”芭芭拉促狹地笑了笑，“因為那樣電影一定不會是全年齡向，你覺得分級為21 的電影能夠起到宣傳作用嗎？”

……吉姆和胡安是女孩們給“夜翼”的翹臀起的名字。
想想看吧，布魯德海文甚至把“我們有全美最性感的超級英雄”這句話印在城市标語上，想來完全不介意讓夜翼，也就是迪克自己，出賣一番色相。
他默默閉嘴，繼續看電影。
電影畫面中，艾琳小姑娘就像一位英勇的鬥牛士，試圖用床單套住什麽能固定的東西，讓自己從滴水獸的背上下來——從前面的劇情就可以看出，這是個很聰明的孩子。
不過，這種行為如果沒有專業訓練，是非常危險的，夜翼看得出來畫師作畫時參考了哥譚的義警羅賓，孩子那幾個特寫甚至致敬了幾代羅賓的标志性動作，這讓他心情略複雜，半晌，他微笑起來，他開始投入地看這部電影了。
一番危險動作之下，艾琳腳下一滑，在床單撕破的聲音中，她整個人挂在半空，搖搖晃晃，幾次要抓住一旁的路燈亦或者高臺都失敗了，然後——

畫面慢放，艾琳從半空中墜落。

風穿過女孩的耳畔，她仰躺在滴水獸的背上，随着怪獸一同起伏，仿佛是在深海中，艾琳不像是之前那樣緊張，而是攤開雙手，望着哥譚的夜景。
雨不知道什麽時候停了。
繁星懸挂在洗淨的夜空之上，這一幕星河閃耀，大約是女孩一輩子都無法忘懷的絕美夜景。
提姆坐在角落裏，他沒有買可樂也沒有買爆米花，托腮看着眼前的電影巨幕，在看到這一幕時突然愣了一下。
……他是為什麽成為羅賓的呢？
在艾琳這個年齡段，他就在追逐蝙蝠俠與羅賓的身影了，除卻對懲惡揚善的渴望，或許有那麽一刻，他也是想要看到這樣的景色。
去掉那些大道理，吸引他的當然是，能夠在哥譚的夜空中飛翔，如果不是二代羅賓之死，蝙蝠俠的行事越來越難以控制，提姆不會在巧合下成為羅賓，但他想……他可能會單獨出道，取個什麽“德雷克”的代號之類。
——如果你年少時就在追逐英雄，那怎麽可能不去做英雄的夢？
畫面中，艾琳開始拉着滴水獸，意圖把不會說話的石雕拐到自己的陣營了，這是個能對着雕像和娃娃說話的女孩，機敏與天真在她的身上難以徹底分割，她是個能夠天真的年齡，所以也是童話裏的主角，在一番緊張刺激又好玩的動作戲之後，或許是被她纏得沒辦法，這只滴水獸越飛越低，低到了艾琳只要輕輕一蹦就能跳到地面上的程度。
然而現在是小女孩反過來纏着滴水獸，在這一過程中，女孩被路人發現，滴水獸躲藏之間撞壞了翅膀，它飛不起來了——
電影中的哥譚市也進入了“戒嚴期”。
劇情急轉直下，“蝙蝠俠”似乎确定只要獲得了道具就能徹底改造哥譚市，于是放肆地讓所有滴水獸出去尋找特殊的許願道具，人們被滴水獸鋪天蓋地的一幕吓到，警方開始組織其他人抓捕、擊毀滴水獸們。
畫面轉向艾琳這邊，女孩蹲在巷口，一個大家夥披着床單，蹲在她身後，一大一小偷偷摸摸地看着外面的情況，然後，女孩爬進床單內部，跨坐在滴水獸的脖子上，他們就這麽有驚無險地從警戒線中混了過去，這一段有笑點，也有……淚點。
為了保護身邊這只救過自己一命的滴水獸，艾琳分明看到了爸爸正逆着人流，拿着有她照片的尋人啓事，喊着“艾琳”，卻沒法去與爸爸相認。
他們擦肩而過。
繞過人牆，翻進窗戶，艾琳和這只滴水獸終于到了目的地，艾琳知道有一個地方沒有人，能夠讓她們藏身，她還能聯系爸爸，那就是媽媽的家。
父母離異之後，爸爸帶着她搬出了他們過去的家，但她還記得道路，清清楚楚。
房屋內積了一層灰，背景音樂在此時慢了下來，女孩的目光掃過房間的每一處，每看到一處就想到過去的影子，畫面染上溫暖的黃光，是過去的畫面浮現，然而，現在這裏已經沒有了過去的人。
媽媽不在。
電影在此時來了個閃回，告訴觀影者，艾琳的媽媽早就在離婚當天拖着箱子離開了。
艾琳一直是聰明的，她在最開始的設想，父母一起的設想，不過是空談，而她固執地相信這不可能的事情，好像這樣就能等到媽媽回來。
鏡頭一一掃過房間內的一切，一家三口的照片，更多親朋們的合照，照片中的艾琳笑容燦爛，鏡頭裏的艾琳卻失落極了，像一只孤零零的小狗。
她身邊還有一只更大的狗狗，斷了翅膀的滴水獸。
在電影裏，滴水獸不具備現實中那種軀體修複的能力，大約是為了平衡雙方的戰力，而且，在這個擁有超級英雄，外星人，魔法師的宇宙裏，如果将異能力的那一方塑造地太過強大，無法戰勝，這部分可能會成為媒體抨擊的工具——
媒體會曲解為電影在宣傳“人類需要超級英雄”“人類只能靠超級英雄”，雖然現實往往就是這樣，但正是因為有着超級英雄存在，他們反而不能讓超英這樣被宣傳。
沒關系，超英不在乎。
電影裏濕漉漉的小人與濕漉漉的滴水獸并排坐在床沿，電話打不通，女孩也知道她一個人的聲音毫無意義，警察不會相信她——她嘗試過了，帶着這只滴水獸還會成為靶子。
她頹喪極了。
讓一個八歲小孩拯救城市太過分了，她開始想念自己溫暖的家了，爸爸一定會相信她的，她要回到爸爸身邊。
艾琳從床上蹦下來，在房間的角落裏找到自己的小小紅雨傘，撐開——
滴水獸湊過來，蹲下身，在幹燥的房間裏，它把自己頭頂的一個小角塞到了雨傘下。
艾琳：“……”
艾琳：“不，你不能這樣。”
太作弊啦！
就好像，就好像她要抛棄什麽大狗狗了一樣。
最後，房間門打開，走出門的是一個穿着風衣，披着披風，還頂着一把大黑傘的壯漢，身體幾乎有其他人兩個寬，一看就是危險份子。
這一路上比之前更不太平，他們只好盡量挑着小道走，艾琳救了一只被困住的貓，扶起了被風雨折斷的小樹，把從巢穴中跌落的小鳥抱回鳥巢，然後她愣了一下，認了出來：“——這是之前的鳥兒。”
在觀景臺他們碰到了一只滴水獸，讓鳥兒在它張開的嘴巴裏做窩。
細雨如絲，艾琳的心情卻越發沉重了。
