Chapter 188 Scraping Flesh to Treat Wounds

"Huh?"

Su An squinted her eyes and tilted her head slightly to see clearly that she was lying in her own room, with light shining through the thin curtains of the window onto the bed.

Fu Zhun, sitting in a wheelchair, leaned down to look after her by the bedside.

When he saw her wake up, his eyes were as deep as the night sea, and he gently dipped his fingertips into the last bit of ointment, carefully applying it to her burned hands.

"I heard that the burns on your hands and body were from saving that guy named Zhang San."

Fu Zhun spoke in a low, gloomy voice. Although it was impossible to discern his emotions, his aura suddenly intensified.

"He's just a guy, is it worth you risking your life like this, getting yourself injured like this?" Fu Zhun's words were filled with unconcealed pity.

Su An's eyes were still somewhat dazed as she stared blankly at him.

Upon hearing this, her gaze naturally fell on her arm, where her once fair skin was covered with redness, swelling, and blisters, with some areas even broken and bleeding.

Indeed, it looks painful to look at.

Su An opened his mouth and coughed with difficulty to clear the phlegm from his throat. Then, with a smile through his tears, he glared at him and said, "Zhang San is my colleague. He works under me, so naturally I have to protect him."

"By the way, how long have I been unconscious? He was hit by an arrow, so his condition should be more serious than mine. Is he alright?"

Upon hearing this, Fu Zhun's handsome brows furrowed, and his face visibly darkened.

"You slept for a day and a night. As for that person, Xie Qingfeng is already treating him, and his life is temporarily out of danger!"

His tone was clearly sarcastic as he stared at Su An and scoffed, "You've really made something of yourself. You're covered in injuries, but the first thing you think about when you wake up is someone else."

"Hehe!" Su An smirked, suppressing the urge to laugh, and propped himself up halfway to sit up, saying, "I wonder who disappeared without a trace, refusing to reveal any information, and then complains that people don't remember you."

She looked up, her gaze serious yet tense as she met Fu Zhun's eyes. "So what exactly happened to you in the capital? Did you encounter any danger? Did that damned emperor force you?"

Thankfully, he was still in the mood to chat as soon as she woke up; she was almost worried to death.

Fu Zhun looked at her with a smile, his eyelashes lowered, and shook his head, simply saying, "Don't worry, the emperor can't do anything to me. Everything is fine."

Upon hearing this answer that wasn't an answer, Su An's brow twitched violently, and a surge of anger rose to his throat.

"Xiao An, you just need to take care of yourself. Don't ask any more questions. I'll take care of everything." Fu Zhun gently held her hand and stroked it tenderly.

Touched by the emotions surging in his dark eyes, Su An felt a sudden pang of fear, her mouth agape, yet she remained speechless.

Based on her understanding of the emperor's character, she knew he was a mad tyrant, not someone easy to deal with.

The untold hardships and difficulties that caused Fu Zhun to be delayed for so long are unimaginable...

Are you preventing her from asking because you think she can't help and is just worrying unnecessarily? Or are you afraid she'll get involved and her situation will become more dangerous?

Regardless of the situation, Fu Zhun was determined to shoulder everything alone and not burden her.

As she thought about it, Su An couldn't help but tear up again. Staring at Fu Zhun's lonely appearance, she felt an indescribable pain in her heart.

"Fine, you're the boss, and I can't pry your mouth open if you don't want to talk!"

She pretended to roll her eyes and sighed heavily, but the force caused her to gasp in pain from the burns on her limbs, "Hiss—"

Fu Zhun's gaze sharpened, and he raised his fingertips, but he didn't know what to do. He frowned and scolded in a low voice, "Now you know the pain. Don't be so foolish again."

Upon hearing this, Su An suddenly remembered something and immediately started touching her face, alarm bells ringing.

After a moment, she smiled and said, "Thank goodness, I wasn't burned and disfigured, otherwise I would have been really ugly!"

"Even if you're ugly, I only love you." Fu Zhun said without hesitation, his dark eyes fixed on her.

Upon hearing this, Su An's face flushed, and she snorted and pushed him away, "I don't believe it! If I really turned into an ugly monster, you'd probably be the first one to be scared away."

Fu Zhun frowned, about to retort, when suddenly a shrill scream came from the side room.

Recognizing Zhang San's voice vaguely, Su An's smile vanished instantly. She hurriedly got out of bed, exclaiming, "Why is that kid screaming so pitifully? I'll go check on him!"

Zhang San had been working diligently in the shop, rescuing it from several crises. He had just saved her life yesterday. Su An was so anxious that she rushed out before Fu Zhun could even speak.

Stepping into the side room, a pungent smell of medicine and blood filled the air.

Xie Qingfeng stood before the bed, his blue robe stained with blood, a sharp scraper firmly in his hand, scraping away the flesh to heal Zhang San's wounds.

Zhang San lay on his back on the couch, screaming incessantly. His once-resolute face was now mostly burned, including his neck, the charred flesh a gruesome sight.

"Ahhh—!"

As Xie Qingfeng's cold blade fell, Zhang San's forehead veins bulged instantly, and large beads of sweat mixed with blood soaked his pillowcase.

"This...it's that serious..."

Seeing this, Su An felt a surge of guilt and stared blankly into the distance.

When the fire was raging and the situation was urgent, she only saw that Zhang San had been burned by an arrow and that his body was covered in soot after the fire was extinguished. She never expected that he would be injured like this!

If she hadn't let Zhang San go with her to put out the fire, Zhang San wouldn't have suffered this undeserved misfortune. Ultimately, it was all his own fault…

Su An bit her lip, unable to bear watching any longer, and turned to run out of the room in a hurry.

After a long while, the screams inside the house gradually subsided.

When Su An turned back, he saw Xie Qingfeng's figure emerge.

His face looked pale and he looked tired. He just nodded to Su An and said, "He's fine now. All the rotten flesh on his body has been scraped off. He just needs to apply medicine and take medicine to heal his wounds."

Su An thanked him gratefully, then gently pushed open the door and went inside.

Zhang San, lying on the couch, was covered in sweat and panting heavily. When he saw Su An, he managed a weak smile, which looked particularly ferocious due to the burns on his face, but his brows still exuded a heroic air.

"Boss, it's so good that you're alright. This place is full of blood and qi, and you're not in good health, so you should leave quickly!"

Seeing that he was still thinking of her at this moment, Su An felt a sudden pang of sadness.

With red-rimmed eyes, she walked over and placed the small square box she was carrying beside his bed.

"Zhang San, I've dragged you into this. Here's a 10,000 tael silver note and the deed to a house I just bought. Take these and take good care of your injuries."

"No matter what happens from now on, the Su family will continue to support you, so you don't need to have any more worries!"

Upon hearing this, Zhang San grinned broadly, though his smile was strange and strained, his heroic spirit remained undiminished. "As expected of the boss I've always trusted, he's incredibly generous!"

"Hehe, I'd be even happier if you could find me a wife too!"
