Chapter Fifty-Four: Not Long to Live

Zhou Li dared not delay and could only rush to prepare the carriage, while Xie Qingfeng began to concentrate on using silver needles to suppress the poison for Su An.

Fu Zhun pushed the wheelchair out of the house, where County Magistrate Lin Yong had been pacing anxiously for a long time in the courtyard.

Upon seeing him emerge, he immediately stepped forward with utmost respect and kowtowed.

"This humble official has met the Prince of Zhenbei. I was unaware of Your Highness's identity and have offended you greatly. I deserve to die!"

Unlike when facing Zhou Li, Lin Yong felt a deep sense of awe and fear towards the legendary Prince Zhenbei, his square face covered in sweat.

He never imagined that the Prince of Zhenbei, who had achieved fame and great feats at a young age, would be imprisoned in this way by a mere county magistrate like him!

He actually imprisoned a national hero!

Lin Yong wished she could slap herself hard.

Fu Zhun frowned slightly and said coldly, "Get up. I will go to Baiyujing immediately. During this time, you must not reveal my identity. Everything will remain the same."

"Yes, yes!" Lin Yong hurriedly wiped the sweat from his forehead, not daring to ask any more questions.

"Remember to protect the girl inside the house; do not allow any loss, otherwise—"

Fu Zhun glanced deeply into the room with his dark eyes, then said nothing more. The coldness and murderous intent emanating from him were chilling.

Lin Yong was even more terrified, and watched with increasing respect as Fu Zhun boarded the carriage and the group sped away.

Then he secretly wondered, what exactly is the relationship between the young lady Su An in the room and the prince?

...

Su An didn't know how long she had slept. She woke up with a sore back and aching waist. She gasped for breath as soon as she moved slightly because of the tearing pain in her shoulder.

"Where...am I?"

I looked around blankly at the unfamiliar house, the simple furnishings, and the door that was still open, letting in a ray of sunlight.

It looks like it's noon.

Su An's heart skipped a beat. With a pale face, she forced herself to get up and walked outside. What she saw was an unfamiliar small courtyard.

Fortunately, they spotted two familiar faces: Zhou Li and Xie Qingfeng, who were eating rice at the stone table.

"Young boss, you're finally awake!" Zhou Li spotted her at a glance and greeted her with great joy, his expression no different from usual.

Xie Qingfeng glanced at her indifferently, raised his eyebrows in displeasure, and said, "You're wandering around as soon as you wake up, do you think your injuries are healing too slowly?"

Su An hesitated for a moment, then looked around the courtyard anxiously without responding.

Now that they had been rescued, what about Fu Zhun? Both of them were in the courtyard, but Fu Zhun was nowhere to be seen.

Thinking it over, Su An asked in a hoarse voice, "Where is Young Master Fu? Is he injured?"

Upon hearing the question, Zhou Li's eyes flickered as he prepared his words.

Xie Qingfeng casually shoveled some rice into his mouth before speaking bluntly: "You're poisoned and about to die. Your master went to find an antidote for you, and he's been gone for three days."

What?!

Su An was stunned, her mind spinning and she couldn't process what was happening.

She was in a coma for three whole days, and... she's going to die?!

"Hey, you rascal!"

Zhou Li gave Xie Qingfeng a hard pinch, "How can you speak so bluntly!"

Isn't this just trying to scare people to death?!

He stepped in front of Xie Qingfeng, and seeing that Su An's body was swaying, he was so frightened that he quickly comforted him, "Don't worry about the young boss, the poison won't spread for another three months, you definitely won't die anytime soon!"

Su An: "..."

The difference between dying now and dying three months from now is just how much longer she can enjoy herself.

As if reminding her of the fact that she wouldn't live long, she hadn't been standing for long before a gnawing pain surged through her limbs and bones, and her heart felt as if it were being slowly squeezed by an invisible hand, making it increasingly difficult to breathe.

Su An's face was as pale as paper, and he had to squat down to calm himself down.

"Young boss!" Upon seeing this, Zhou Li's expression hardened, and he hurriedly helped her to sit on the stone bench.

To be honest, he felt both grateful and guilty towards Su An. If it weren't for Su An, it would have been his prince who was poisoned.

Moreover, Su An was simply implicated and suffered an undeserved disaster.

Zhou Li felt a pang of sorrow and could only try his best to comfort him, saying, "Young master, you must trust your master. He is most reluctant to see you die and will soon bring back the antidote to save you!"

"Easy for you to say. Do you think that's some kind of back alley where you can just walk in and out?" Xie Qingfeng scoffed veiledly, glancing at Su An. Out of consideration for the meal they had shared in the past, he offered a self-serving reminder.

“I never lie. Optimistically, it will take three months. If the poison backfires and I can't control it, you'll die even faster. It all depends on whether Master can come back with a lifeline. But I advise you to be mentally prepared.”

Su An listened in a daze.

She knew perfectly well that Xie Qingfeng wouldn't joke, and that's precisely why she was even more terrified, and an indescribable sadness welled up in her heart.

"I've only just started to enjoy a good life, and now... it's all over?"

Su An sighed heavily, her lips pursed. Zhou Li and Xie Qingfeng exchanged a glance and remained silent.

When it comes to matters of life and death, who can say for sure what the outcome will be?

"Miss Su An."

At this moment, Lin Yong came in from outside. As usual, he visited Su An every day. When he saw that Su An had woken up, he greeted her politely.

Noticing the somewhat subdued atmosphere among them, he frowned, cupped his hands and bowed to Su An, saying, "Miss has finally woken up. I was truly ashamed that my defenses were inadequate and that Miss Su An was stabbed by thieves in prison. These are some apologies."

After saying that, Lin Yong placed the several packets of tonics he was carrying on the table.

Su An nodded weakly. He was about to die, so what use were any more tonics?

well!

“However,” Lin Yong changed the subject, looking at Su An with an iron face, “given that the matter that Miss Su committed has not yet been investigated, she will need to return to prison for supervision after she recovers.”

Upon hearing this, Su An couldn't help but twitch her lips, too exhausted to even refute.

"Well done, what a righteous official! She admires him."

"I know, hurry up and leave, I don't want to see you!" Zhou Li glanced at his future princess with pity and waved her away.

The prince is really something. He didn't even let Lin Yong, this stubborn old man, change his ways before he left. It's infuriating!

Lin Yong couldn't possibly care, and simply said, "Oh, a family of all ages just arrived outside. They are Miss Su's family. Since Miss Su is awake, I will have them let them pass."

Hearing this, Su An's eyes lit up, and he finally perked up a bit. "Quickly, let them in!"

Not long after Lin Yong left, Li Guihua and her three little ones peeked into the yard.

Upon seeing Su An in the courtyard, the whole family's eyes instantly reddened, and they hurriedly gathered around him.

“Xiao An, my child, what exactly did you do wrong to be placed under house arrest by the county magistrate? Tell your mother quickly!” Li Guihua’s voice was choked with sobs, and her eyes were red, clearly indicating that she had been up for several sleepless nights.

Su An was slightly relieved; it seemed that the whole story of why he was imprisoned had been kept from him.

Her eyes flickered, and she put on her usual smile.
